Today, Crown Princess Catharina-Amalia celebrates her 19th birthday. The Princess was born in The Hague on 7 December 2003, and is the eldest child of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima. She became heir apparent to the Dutch throne when her father ascended the throne on 30 April 2013. On her 18th birthday the Princess of Orange automatically became a member of the Council of State and its Advisory Division.

ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Princess. What a beautiful photo.

Why on earth are they picturing the Princess of Orange with such poor lighting, all dark and gloomy? She would look so much more lively and fresh, just the young woman she is, with a bit more light and a more cheerful atmosphere. The red dress also would look fantastic with brighter lighting.
ReplyDeleteAgree!
Delete@DSC: Perhaps Amalia herself chose that setting; there's nothing wrong with it. There've been lots of other "bright, light, & cheerful" photos of her down through the years. Maybe she's showing she's serious about her role & entering adulthood. Why do commenters here abhor dark colors so much, smh. *Regina
DeleteAlso not the biggest fan of the first picture where the background appears to be pitch black. But in the full body version, I absolute love the contrast and the background she chose. I think it's very appropriate for a December birthday and in a year where everybody has been struggling a bit. This radiates calmness and warmth and I like it very much.

She appears to be a smart, impressive young woman and I applaud her for showing such maturity at her young age. As for the fashion, this dress looks very good with a flattering design and color but agree it would be nice to see this is a brighter photo. It does seem like we rarely see her smile, but perhaps she is more comfortable this way.
ReplyDeleteLovely young lady with gorgeous hair! MD
ReplyDeleteShe is a lovely very intelligent lady. And really friendly in interviews etc. A beautyful face with amazing natural thick hair. But sorry she really should lose a little bit of weight also for healthy reasons.
ReplyDeleteNot your health so stop with the faux concern. Her weight is own business.
DeleteCommenting a young woman's weight really isn't appropriate, even if you begin your comment with "sorry" and refer to health reasons. I'm sure her health is well taken care of. People may have all kind of medical conditions that make losing weight more difficult -- thyroid disorders, for instance -- and as there are too many examples of dangerously anorectic young females, it's great that she is boldly herself and shows us that not everyone has to be thin as a stick. As for the lightning, it reminds me of the chiaroscuro of Renaissance paintings (seen also in Rembrandt's paintings). Very elegant and artistic photos of a beautiful and self-confident young lady.

Mentioning her weight, then excusing it by saying it is out of concern for her health, is still wrong. That is none of your business. That is between her and her doctor. YOU DON'T BRING UP A WOMAN'S WEIGHT!!! It can only go wrong. If she has any problems, medically or otherwise, it is not for you, a perfect stranger, to discuss on a public forum. This can trigger women with eating disorders, even one's in recovery. Please learn not to do this.
DeleteI think she looks healthier than the super skinny Leticia or Catherine.
DeleteReacting to caune; overweight is unanimously seen as a hasard factor on health on the longer term, that has nothing to do with how people look (in their younger years). You would need to compare individuals in their performance for physical exercises.
DeleteRegarding Amalia, I have a lot of sympathy for her in the present circumstances in the NL concerning her security.
A lovely photo of the Princess of Orange. This dress is a beautiful color, she looks splendid
ReplyDeleteShe is a very good looking girl and while I like the red dress, I'm not sure it is the most flattering fit for her body shape. I also think it's quite an "old" dress--I have similar dresses and I am many years older than Princess Amalia
ReplyDeleteShe is a beautiful young lady!
ReplyDeleteAgree and agree, i think that she chose the picture out of many, so even if we find it it dark and serious is her choice.
ReplyDeleteI also don't rather this look, but she needs to find her own style, let's give her grace, is difficult for any teenagers, let alone fire a queen in waiting

I like this very much on her and I think the moody lighting of the photo suits both the warm, rich red of the dress and her gorgeous hair. (V.M.)
ReplyDeleteTotally agree.

Happy Birthday to Princess Catharina-Amalia. I like the style and colour of her dress. She is a very beautiful young lady.
ReplyDeleteA very happy 19th Birthday to a beautiful young Pss. elegant dress and nice color. css
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to the Crown Princess! Love her hair and dress--very pretty and very flattering color for Catharina-Amalia. Do wish the lighting had not been so dark so can't say I am fan of the photo.

I remember when she was born, the Orange community of the town gave us at the exit roads "beschuit met muisjes" A Dutch tradition when a baby is born.
ReplyDeleteI like the dress , but she looks sorrow. Not her best year I think everything she is experiencing now.
She is lovely and I say this as a big woman myself but she should lose weight for her health. The stress on her body will only increase over time. I say this 100%
ReplyDeleteAbout her health as she is stunning
