On June 13, Princess Ines, Duchess of Västerbotten, was christened in the Royal Chapel of Drottningholm Palace. Princess Ines was born on February 7, and her christening coincided with a special occasion: Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary on the same day. The christening ceremony was officiated by Bishop Johan Dalman, Chief Court Chaplain, and Michael Bjerkhagen, Pastor of the Royal Court Parish.

After the christening service, the King and Queen hosted a reception for the invited guests. The reception was followed by a private lunch for the Royal Family, the Hellqvist family, and the godparents.

Well, my favourite is Queen Silvia's jacket and little Ines anyway. I don't like Madeleine's dress at all, maybe my cape saturation reached a level where everything cape-like (hiding/distorting more than flattering) became a bit repulsive for me. Victoria's dress is nice, but with a bit more skin around her neck it would be better. And a high, closed neck is in most cases not good for Victoria anyway, with or without florals. Victoria's dress on Estelle is not convincing at all, the colour is too dull and she is not yet quite grown into it.

Princess Madeleine is a beautiful woman, and that dress with the breathtaking back neckline is fantastic! And yet: I would have liked her to take a step back and let Baby Ines, Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip take centre stage.

It was sweet how Estelle “recycled” one of her mum's dresses.

I see it differently. The baby and Sofia truly are centre stage. The bright yellow of Sofia's dress really stands out. Everyone else is dressed in a shade of pink or lavender (see pics 4 and 5 for example) which makes a nicely coordinated and well put together group :-)

@Anon 17:42: Yes, I agree that it's noticeable that there's a colour order with pink and lavender. However, within the lavender category, there are also soft tones and intense light purples. As I said, Madeleine's dress is fantastic and was made for her. The fact that we're all talking about her dress shows that she stands out — not just because of her beauty. I have a lot of respect for her, and I also think it's great how she's building a career for herself. But 'taking a step back' looks different.

Hey @anon 06:36, thank you for responding. I see what you mean.
It could be because Madeleine's outfit resonates more and better with the majority that we are all talking about it. Personally I don't really like Sofia's dress. Another colour could already be an improvement, but there's also too much going on (flowy fabric, lots of ruffles, hairband, hairstyle). In my personal opinion I would rather say that Sofia had to step it up a bit more, rather than Madeleine having to take a step back. But in the end it's a matter of taste, and I do appreciate your polite and clear reaction!

Princess Ines looks like her brother Alexander at that age,so favouring their father. Beautiful family. What a happy and joyous day for them all. All the ladies looked lovely in their respective choices. Not many could pull off a full ensemble of yellow, but Sofia did so with aplomb!
Pss Madeline looks better in the dress than the model. Her girls too were beautifully turned out.
CP Victoria. A perfect Summer dress for a sunny day event.
QS still having to wears trousers, looked lovely in their respective choices patterned jacket.

All the ladies look lovely in their chosen dresses, suits and colours. Nothing OTT, all simple and stylish. I think yellow is such a beauiful colour for a christening - bright, sunny, cheerful - and the range of lilacs, pinks and greens supports the colour well. Nice to see P.Estelle wearing one of her mum's dresses, and this time the longer length on her is perfect for this event and her role as godmother. I like Q.Sylvia's suit too. P.Madeline's outfit is beautiful.

Anon 9:13, I like what you said about yellow at a christening. My favourite look here is Estelle, beautiful in relative simplicity and I love that she’s in flats and not dressing like a much older person … she looks so lovely. I think the form of Victoria’s dress is very good for her. I above all love the grandparent interactions with gorgeous little Ines.

  14. I like the yellow on Sofia. Such a fresh and happy colour.
I also like that Estelle (who is now a godmother to Ines it appears) has started using some of her mum´s dresses, even if this particular one looks a bit large on her (on Victoria too - to be fair).

Although I like Safiyaa dresses on Queen Mathilde and on CP Elisabeth, this one worn by Princess Madeleine is a bit too much : the peplum, the belt (or faux belt ?), too much pleated fabric around the neckline. The colour is beautiful.
Princess Estelle is beautiful in her mother's dress. She looks so grown up now.
CP Victoria's dress by Dolce & Gabanna : the print looks too much like old fashion wall paper or bedroom decoration.
Little baby Ines' brothers are so cute in their light grey suits.
Prince Oscar is a real mini man in his navy suit. He is cute too.

What many bloggers here do not seem to have realised is that the yellow of Sofia‘s dress has nothing to do with the freshness of summer. This christening is full of symbolism: The yellow and blue of the Swedish flag are reflected in the mother’s dress, in the sash and order bestowed upon the baby, in the traditional crib etc. etc.

    1. Really? The flag? I think that is very far-fetched. This is not about national symbols. It´s a family affair.
Sofia has worn vastly different outfits for her children´s christenings. Why would this one now suddenly be full of symbolism? All of the kings´s grandchildren were given a sash and order because they are members of the royal family.

If I'm very honest, I'm not overly fond of any outfit individually (though none of them is inherently bad) - BUT together they form a happy, beautiful ensemble that really represents the Swedish royals.

Did not recognise Estelle at first, she's so grown up now. Love her expression on the second picture - so much like her mum! And in her dress, too. Lovely!

Princes Madeline looked very unhappy on the day. I thought Princess Estelle could have chosen a happier colour, this does not do this beautiful young girl justice, it’s far too drab on her. What a beautiful day for the family, the little boys looked gorgeous in their suits. Sophie looked so pretty in yellow.

Very unusual to see Queen Silvia in a pit suit at an occasion like this but I love her jacket. I like the cut of CP Victoria's dress but not the print. P Madeleine is elegant as always.
P Sofia never manages to get her look together. Strong yellow, lots of fluff and flounces. Sloppy hair. She has not mastered the royal look yet.

    1. Sofia is such an adorable lady, she can wear anything. Her smile and her somehow innocent charme (if you know what I mean, english is not my mothertongue) make her outstanding. She is married for ten years now, has four children and still is a breathe of fresh air. It is not only her natural beauty, it is "that special something". As soon as I see her I start smiling.

In my opinion Princess Madeleine looked fantastic as always but I wasn’t satisfied with the rest of the family. CP Victoria’s style was boring to me, and I really wish they would’ve chosen a different dress for Princess Estelle. It was too big for her and the style was boring too. I doubt that a 13 year old would choose it for themselves. I get that sustainabilty is important in fashion too but I think Estelle would definitely have chosen a different outfit if they would’ve let her.
As for Princess Sofia, she looks lovely however I don’t like this yellow colour. It’s way too much for a church ceremony. Her fashion sense has never been the best but I liked her outfits better a few years ago. Her boys are adorable and the whole family is lovely and I guess that’s what matters. I loved to see the royal family and all the cousins together, they’ve gotten soo big.

How do you know that Princess Estelle didn't choose this dress herself ? Do you have a direct telecom line with the Swedish royals ? And what if the young princess happens to like this dress ? In Scandinavia they pay more attention at sustainability than in other parts of Europe (cfr. Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway on her 18th birthday gala wore an old dress of her mother Mette-Marit).

I saw other pics and close- ups in Town & Country magazine and well, I think that P.Sofia's ensemble is too much of a good thing.
There ia a clear yellow overload, too garish imv.
Seen from the back, the bottom of her dress features too many ruffles layers, while a long ribbon or whatver is attached on the neckline and left falling loose.
The front view of the dress is nice, though, but definitely no to that thick yellow headband.
    Nice pumps as well.
Someone said that a nod to the Swedish flag can be spotted here and I agree with that.
It can be seen not only in the colour coordination of P.Carl Philip's uniform with his wife's dress , but also in P. Estelle's midi dress (borrowed from her mother, who had previously debuted it on a National Day celebration).
Of course, baby Princess Ines stole the scene, just like her siblings.
    P.ss Victoria : iffy.
The D&G dress is very pretty as to the cut and fit but the pattern is too dense imv.
P.ss Madeleine: well, she is a real stunner and a winner in terms of sartorial choices.
She looks phenomenal in her lavender ensemble plus her classy pillar box hat.
    Love her accessoires as well.
It was a joyful family gathering and that's what really matters.
All gentlemen are groomed to perfection and all children are adorable.
