Japan's Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako paid a two-day visit to Okinawa Prefecture with their daughter, Princess Aiko. On June 4, 2025, Emperor Naruhito, Empress Masako, and Princess Aiko visited the National War Dead Peace Mausoleum in Peace Memorial Park in Itoman. At the mausoleum, they spoke with several relatives of the war dead. Itoman was the site of the final battles of the Battle of Okinawa.
On June 5, 2025, Emperor Naruhito, Empress Masako, with their daughter, Princess Aiko visited a monument in Okinawa commemorating the victims of the 1944 sinking of the Tsushima Maru evacuation ship. In the afternoon, the Imperial Family visited Shuri Castle in Naha. In 2000, Shuri Castle was designated a World Heritage Site as part of the Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu.

ReplyDelete「かりゆし」は「おめでたい」という意味の沖縄の方言です。
気温の高い沖縄で涼しく着られるフォーマルな服として近年考案され、2000年の沖縄サミットでは各国首脳が着用しました。

Princess Aiko has her signature look now. The suit has the correct proportions and style skirt that she wears well. Nice to see her in a dress, looks lovely. I like the braiding of her hair. I like this family.
ReplyDeleteI Like the white with blue clothes of both ladies. But at the other pictures I really do not understand that a young lady is wearing the same outfit as her mother.
ReplyDeleteThink of it as a uniform that these high-ranking royal ladies are given to wear by the IHA when conducting Imperial business. It's not their personal choice of clothes. They must wear what they are given or told to wear. It will be of the highest and best of quality in every respect, in accordance with set styles and traditions. In private they can buy and wear whatever they want, but we will never see those photos.

Perhaps if we look at the court style is to have decorum, with individuality being in the colour and embellishment. They need to be able to bend forward to bow, without wardrobe malfunction. It identifies them as royals, much like the coat/dress hat that QE wore. I have slowly grown to appreciate the way they dress and the exquisite workmanship, which is fashion in itself,

DeleteI know this is standard Imperial Household style but I wish the skirts would be better fitted. The slightly shorter and wider skirt that P Aiko wears looks a bit better but still very old-fashioned . Love the traditional Okinawa blue and white prints and the Empresses outfit is perfect with the pretty jacket and two toned shoes

I love Japanse culture and both ladies are lovely but it’s no to all the outfits: I don’t understand that in such a rich country, with great designers, let their Royal ladies dress like some kind of nuns with ridiculous hats and too long skirts … Also a young woman in her 20’s dressed like her mother ?

In these photos I see that the Emperor will walk, the Empress behind him, and the Princess behind her. In several photos I see that not only do they walk this way in formal settings, but also perhaps also stand this way, in strict hierarchy. It's always interesting to observe and try to understand a traditional culture including fashion. I value the differences, and do not want us all to end up wearing the same things across the world! - Mary
ReplyDeleteI like their traditional outfits, no malfunction when bowing forward, no toppled hats getting in and out of vehicles, or blown away in the wind, shoes they can walk and stand in. Royal without being overdressed, much like the men wears suits, they just have the feminine version for business.
ReplyDeleteWith the Japanese Imperial Family, we always hear, “it’s the IHA that forces them to wear those old-fashioned, dull clothes”. But how come then Empress Michiko was always so stylish? She didn't wear pork-pie hats and only A-line skirts…
