On June 10, 2026, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia attended the Holy Mass celebrated by His Holiness to mark the centenary of the death of Antoni Gaudí, as well as the blessing of the Tower of Jesus at the Basilica of the Sagrada Família. The King and Queen welcomed His Holiness Pope Leo XIV upon his arrival at the Basilica of the Sagrada Família in Barcelona.
The King and Queen and Pope Leo XIV listened to an explanation by Valentina Sánchez, a 13-year-old blind girl, about a tactile model of the Tower of Jesus Christ of the Basilica of the Sagrada Família. Her participation highlights the collaboration between the Sagrada Família and the ONCE Foundation–Catalonia, which have been working together since 2013 to make the basilica more accessible for people with visual impairments.
For this solemn ceremony, Queen Letizia once again made use of the “privilege of white,” the historic Vatican prerogative that allows Catholic queens to wear white in the presence of the Pope. She wore the same bespoke white dress by the Spanish fashion house Redondo Brand that she had first worn at the Mass marking the beginning of Pope Leo XIV’s pontificate in the Vatican on 19 May 2025.
