German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife, Elke Büdenbender, are currently undertaking a state visit to the Netherlands. On the evening of the second day of their state visit, Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Elke Büdenbender hosted a reception with a musical performance in honour of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima at the residence of the German Ambassador in The Hague.
For the occasion, Queen Máxima wore a jumpsuit by Natan. She also wore a 19th-century brooch. The brooch entered the House of Orange collection in the nineteenth century through Queen Sophie, the first wife of King William III. The diamonds and pearls featured in the piece came from the collection of her mother, Catherine Pavlovna, Grand Duchess of Russia and later Queen of Württemberg. The jewel is often referred to as the Russian Brooch.
