On September 30, 2025, Princess Benedikte presented the Research Prizes of the Alzheimer Association and the Alzheimer Research Foundation. Upon her arrival, she was welcomed by Birgitte Vølund, Chair of the Alzheimer Association, and Mette Raun Fjordside, the Association’s Director. Princess Benedikte serves as patron of the Alzheimer’s Association.
Each year, on September 21, the Alzheimer Research Foundation, in collaboration with the Alzheimer Association, marks International Alzheimer’s Day by honoring two Danish researchers who have made outstanding contributions to research on Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
This year’s award recipients were Consultant Dr. Hanne Gottrup of Aarhus University Hospital, who received the Clinical Researcher Prize for her long-standing efforts to improve the quality of dementia diagnosis in Denmark, and Associate Professor Ove Wiborg from the Department of Medicine and Health Technology, who received the Basic Researcher Prize for his work on the fundamental disease mechanisms of Alzheimer’s.
