During their visit to Læsø Municipality, the Royal Yacht Dannebrog was anchored off Østerby Harbor, and as the day’s final event, King Frederik and Queen Mary hosted Afternoon Tea. For the occasion, Queen Mary wore a black, floral-embroidered midi dress by Vilshenko. The invited guests were ferried to and from the Royal Yacht in launches. The King and Queen’s summer cruise will continue on Thursday on the island of Samsø.

ReplyDeleteI love Mary's dress, having seen it earlier on other social media. Not sure if it is new or the same Vilshenko dress that she had from before, since that one looked similar to this one. Some might say that a darker dress is more suited for evening, but to me the coloured embroidery makes this dress just as suitable for a daytime event. She looks lovely.

Beyond individual preferences, what I can't understand is why you don't take into account the weather conditions, which are of primary concern when going out and about in Scandi countries.
Maybe you think that people can choose freely what to wear as indoors/ outdoors clothing.
That's wrong.
I guess you never went there and don't t even imagine how challenging can be walking/ travelling in such sudden changes in temperature and often hostile weather conditions in general.
There are difference from one place to another too.
Osterby Harbor (Havn) is basically a windy fisherman village/ town.
The outermost places in Denmark are so windy and rain is often the order of the day.
Mary is dressed correctly, she wears a beautiful embroidered dress
(precious craftmanship here) in a heavier material as she was likely to move inside and outside the Dannebrog.
If you a have a look at the blonde lady in the last pic , she looks to be wearing a wool piece as well.
From my experience, I can tell you that voyages/ cruises by ship can be something like a wild adventure, just like the wild natural surroundings.
You can feel relatively confortable inside a ship or any other vessel but when just a single door onboard is left open, you seem to be swept away by cold winds.
The only way possible to cope with all these hard occurences is to opt for layers of clothes plus a mandatory , heavy anorak / jacket when disembarking or just walking on the mainland.
This applies also to the other post where I spotted a totally out of place , bizarre comment, according to which Mary" looks like an Indian"!
She wears a multi- layered clothing style , so that she can put on/ off any single piece when needed.
Could we call it “romantic” rather than granny or old fashioned?! A bit less which derogatory, especially to older people. Maybe it’s not a style you appreciate?… but I love it! I would gladly own this dress.

DeleteI agree with you. Since we cannot see her in full length, the dress is probably too long. And don't shoot at me but I do not like these longer dresses. IMO the most beautiful dress or skirt is ruined when the length is too long.

ReplyDeleteI know this site is about fashion but I can´t quite overlook politics. This is a Russian brand although also operating out of London. It makes me uneasy to see it promoted while the aggressive Russian invasion is ongoing.

Thanks for the comment - I agree. It is sad that such a great nation - Russia, which gave the world many artists and scientists, is currently unable to produce enough courageous people who would stand up against aggressive politics and a dictatorial regime. World-famous athletes, artists and designers prefer to bow their heads.

This is a lovely dress for the occasion. My quibble is the design on the lower dress it seems suggestive with how the design is placed. Sorry but that was where my eye was drawn when looking at the model. Might be the designers intent. Regardless she look nice.

ReplyDeleteVilshenko's design is quite unique and immediately recognizable. I like her ethno-based motivs on a white or non-dark background. However, this black based design is too harsh for me, I don't like it. As for politics: If she was somebody known for being vocal to support the war, I would agree. But if not, then I am not sure that it makes sense to boycott a designer because she does not close her Moscow designer activities/her shop. But: for the time being, I would not like to wear a dress with Russian folklore motivs on it.
