  1. I used to really like Meghan, but there’s something in the way she holds her bump and the way she pursues this famous friends and people I very much dislike. Fashion wize she’s ok, just ok. It’s a stupid detail but I haven’t seen her with dark nail polish until her fashion award appearance.
Also I didn’t mind her speech. About fashion representing values and empowerment for woman... I don’t buy it

    4. Lana what I find funny about her perusing these friendships with celebrities,is that they only want to be friends with her because she's royalty now.

Just a few short years ago, she was no where near as famous as she was now. Yes she had a few celebrity friends, but now everyone is lining up to kiss her butt.
Does she not realize that, they only want to be friends now because she's married to a prince?

But if all of her fame and publicity were gone tomorrow, they'd drop her quick.
I think that she's playing with fire trying to maintain her celebrity lifestyle.

I can't see this 'acting' any more. All that holding the belly all the time, posing with it like on a magazine cover.. *blah* it's way to much, it's way to much 'hollywood'. Posing, showing, blinding people..

    8. So now vulgarity is allowed on this site. Everyone seems to have strong feelings toward Meghan one way or the other. But when sh** and words like it are allowed, that is a new low.

  2. I really wish she would stop with the posing and acting.
It comes across as so disingenuous. The hand over her mouth shy and humbled look.
Cradling her stomach every two seconds.
At every engagement she goes to she has signature poses and facial expressions that she does. It's becoming obvious at this point that she's acting.

Yes, I know she's a former actress, but still it's all coming across so fake. She's always playing up to photographers and staring at the cameras.

    Just my opinion.

    1. Agree what exactly has she done to make her amazing??? Nothing

    2. Double "why" ?

      Delete
    3. She is amazing because she has excelled in spite of many barriers. Her family is dreadful and emotionally abusive and she is described by the overwhelming majority of friends and colleagues as kind, intelligent and thoughtful. She did not come from a secure financial background and worked very hard to better that situation. It is extremely difficult to have any success as an actress in Hollywood or anywhere else. She is a millionaire and she earned every penny herself. She is educated and a graduate of a respected and competitive US university. She double majored. It is also difficult to be chosen to speak at the United Nations, which she did beautifully. The causes she supports are worthy and deserving of the publicity and cachet she brings to them. Her first tour of Australia with her husband (while pregnant) was a resounding success. Being faced with hundreds of screaming crowds? She was graciousness personified.
My personal belief is that the rapturous reception down under triggered some truly vicious jealousy among parties who have fed negative stories to the press ever since. And I think it is sourced disturbingly close to her home.

      Delete
    4. Agree with Pine and ad: jealousy is some kind of illness.

      Delete
    5. Agree that jealousy is infinitely destructive. In addition, always remember that tabloids like the Daily Mail pay $ for stories. This makes their sources suspect. And jealous people have been known to pay "sources" to feed items to the press. So the "source"'is paid twice--once by the instigator and again by the tabloid. That is quite a motivator to say anything at all.
Also meant to add that Meghan has negotiated the often challenging situation of being mixed race and made it work in a positive way. Not white enough for some, not black enough for others. It can be a tightrope. She is remarkably positive, honest, and forward-facing about it all.

      Delete
    6. Well said, Pine. I can imagine having your actions and motives dissected by one person would be stressful. I cannot begin to imagine what it must be like to be on the world's stage, while pregnant, and know that you are not in a position to defend yourself from any of the garbage that perfect strangers are reporting about you. Sadly, gossip is what sells.

      Delete
    7. Agree Pine - she is an extremely accomplished woman. Even before she was in this position she had done much for which she could be admired.

      Delete
    8. Bravo, Pine! That's exactly all her qualities and her accomplishments that separate her from the low educated heartless "plebs" that suddenly realizes that they can be vicious in media. Jealousy is the lowest form of self loathing. It is dangerous and IMOO this blog should not support such comments.

    10. Well said Pine!

I have never watched Suits so I cannot comment of Meghan's acting ability, however I feel that I can comment I what I have read of her life so far.

This lovely young lady grew up in a world sadly not evolved enough that it somehow mattered that her parent's complexions were different from each others.
Meghan was subject to discrimination because of her beautiful complexion, yet despite not growing up in a wealthy family, despite not going to the best schools in the UK Meghan obtained a double degree, paid for her own education, made a career for herself and decided to use her persona to do some good in the world.

Good on Meghan for showing her love for her husband! Good on Meghan for embracing and delighting in her pregnancy! Life is miraculous and it should be rejoiced and celebrated. Why wouldn't cradle something as precious as the child growing within her, its beautiful, its miraculous, it is her first pregnancy, it could be something she has dreamed of for years and years.

Meghan is glowing and she looks gorgeous! I love her gown, her accessories, her hair, her makeup, everything! I believe, she is a genuine and beautiful, inside and out, and I don't believe the twaddle in the press that is written about her.

      Delete
  11. I also think the posing here was a little heavy. But I always admire her beautiful posture.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Nice gown, she is positively glowing (with some help from blush too, lol), but the cradling of the bump with both hands ruined it for me! So unnecessary, so attention seeking.... You never see a normal woman going about her daily life do that - and I know what I am talking about, I have been pregnant, twice - so it strikes me as completely conscious and calculated pose, not the "unconscious" gesture that some people are saying trying to justify her. Hmm, I guess only time will tell where her heart really is, is she fake or the real deal...

  13. Cradling the pregnant belly with both hands is not natural, ask any woman who has been pregnant, it's purely a pose to call attention. you only see celebs doing it, and now Meghan .... Not a dignified look I must say, sorry. And then she talks about empowering women - well, I suppose everyone has a different perception of what "empowering" means but for me it means giving the women the power to be recognized for their skills, abilities, achievements, being as strong (if not stronger) than men, whereas this pose screams: look at me, I am a woman because I am pregnant. No offense meant to any pregnant woman - I am a mum of three myself but I have never done this and I cringe every time I see celebs doing it on photo ops. JMHO

    1. Cradling a baby bump with both hands IS natural. Did it myself, multiple friends do it and not one of them are celebrities. It is a normal behavior among millions of women. There may be a cultural ignorance here whereby you think your own behavior of choice should automatically translate to others. It does not. But I will not judge you for not doing so as it's a personal choice but I am puzzled why you would think you can judge another woman for doing so. Very odd.

  15. This was a somewhat bizarre performance for a member of the BRF. The dress was too Hollywood and the gold shoes were awful. I have to sadly agree with the comments about the belly touching and simpering attitude. They are not natural and run against her "message" of female empowerment. The last photo with her posing for the camera while holding her belly is cringeworthy as part of an official event.

    1. As I have stated here before, many people on this forum have no idea what "Hollywood" style is. I would encourage you to Google some images of the women that attended the British Fashion Awards 2018. You will have a better idea of what "Hollywood" style looks like. Kendall Jenner's gown is a prime example. In the future, you will see that Meghan's dress was quite appropriate.

      Delete
    2. I so agree chardonn8r! And while they are googling "Hollywood" style they need to Google "protocol" "state occasions" and look at some photos of Kate, Diana, Fergie, Sophie, Eugenie, Beatrice, Margaret and THE QUEEN to review sitting styles, shoulderless gowns, shoes, nail polish, how they all smile in the same way...just as most of us do unless we are laughing etc. A general smile is not a posed smile.
I love the dress! She looks great! Appropriate. As to holding the baby bump ~ I did this with all 3 of mine. For many reasons~ kicking, the heaviness of the baby even when I was only 7 pounds heavier. It out my center off. I think too many are making too much about a 37 yr old who is thrilled to have a baby at 37! Let her enjoy it and touch her belly all she wants.

So many haters all over the place. Check out Twitter it is an all out war.

  16. She looks lovely and very stylish. I wish people would stop judging her like the English tabloids have started to bash her in an obsessive way. I do not understand that this is allowed. They take her down with pleasure and haunt her the way they haunted Diana in the past. Making things up, with NO evidence at all….and what do all the sheep do??? They believe everything what the tabloids write without any evidence. They repeat and repeat nasty unproven things about her everyday, so the sheep start to believe it all, because they read it in the paper. This is how the so called NEWS is constantly manipulated.

Leave her alone. She is doing her best and having been an acress is nothing compared to the limelight she's in now. Give her at least some time.

  20. I love the gown and the tidy up do -- but am afraid the duchess has pushed the envelope (no pun intended) a little too far for me here. The goth nail polish may be trendy, but it (imo) makes any wearer over the age of 15 look really tacky. And I have to agree that the girlish posing and "look at my bump" routine are unbecoming. This may be indicative of Meghan "relaxing into her role", but she is 37 years old and (as an actress) ought to know how to act the part.

    1. I am 61 and currently wearing a very deep wine color. Nothing goth. She is wearing a deep wine which is hot color this Fall. I am not tacky and everyone loves it! If she was wearing dagger nails bejeweled then that would be tacky. She is fine.

    2. Hi, Diane. It is no surprise that opinions vary wildly about the current fashion for extremely dark shades of nail polish. While I stand by what I have said, you don't have to agree.

Trends come and go; who knows how long this current one will last? Meghan's gown and hairstyle, on the other hand, are classic and therefore look appropriate on a grown woman who is a member of royalty. (The chunky jewelry works well here, too :-).

      Delete
    3. Many news agencies are reporting black nail polish. In some pictures it looks more dark wine colored. Whichever color it is, it is very dark and I agree with you, Jane, that it is not appropriate and does not look good on any lady out of her teens.

  22. Neat, clean and very stylish. She has the correct upper body to wear a one-shoulder dress like that and show it off to its best advantage.
It does seem that she is always touching or cradling her baby bump but lots of women do that. Pregnancy is a different experience for every woman.
In the last B&W photo they are all definitely posing and hamming it a little. The other photos are just moments of her being herself, and nothing wrong with that. As a lesser ranking royal, and in a capacity where she is not representing the queen, I couldn't care two hoots and even laud that she has the opportunity for a little freedom to express herself.

  23. If I were ever pregnant, I would be rubbing my baby bump any chance I got. It's 2018, almost 2019. Meghan can act however she wishes. Nobody else has to like it. But to dislike someone because they like rubbing their baby bunch is beyond irrational. And she looks GORGEOUS!

  24. Total elegance, velvet must always have clean lines in order to show the richness of the fabric. I would have added more substantial jewelry, but I think Meghan much like Letizia is very minimalistic. I think she looks wonderful.
I also think that she is thrilled with this pregnancy and it shows. I have been reading so many comments about her gestures, and how some women feel uncomfortable about her not being restrained and reserved like other royals, it does not bother me one bit, and I hope she continues to be herself, and moves forward ignoring all the judgement about things that are really so trivial.

  28. I've been pregnant, and pregnant women do touch their bellies. But this continually cradling (and the prior cupping of the belly in the earlier phase ) is different - its unusual.

I think she looks great here - radiant even. He dress style and nail color is a bit out of step for the BRF, but she was destined to have her own style, I think, and that's just fine with me. However, I'm just put off by the posing and belly cupping/hugging which appears to be attention seeking.

  33. I agree with the many comments on here. The images are almost forced. There really isn't anything natural in these images. There have been a few times of late (especially on the tour) were I've seen Meghan and thought, it looks like a play to the cameras. The looking at Harry all 'dewy eyed'. We've not seen the likes from any other royal lady.
The British papers aren't being too kind in their reporting of H&M of late, and the comments relating to the stories are just as scathing. My point being, these types of actions are not endearing her to the public, but are calling into question, how sincere is she !

  34. I thought it was just me! I saw these photos last night and thought she looked so totally inappropriate clutching her belly. She may be thrilled to be pregnant--most women are--but manage without all the posing and posturing! Can you picture Catherine or Mary or Letizia in this kind of pose? I thought the dress, shoes and even the dark nail varnish were all okay, though I personally don't like skin tight dresses on any pregnant women--it's not a flattering look though unavoidable at times. Lana, Natasha and so many others above, I totally agree that so much about her now seems to be always posed and fake. Anon at 5 29 sums it up perfectly. I did it all the time and no one, I mean no one, ever objected in the slightest of reacted with anything other than a smile. Also, there is some new medical thought that it is also therapeutical for the developing fetus.

    1. Dear Pine, I for one (and I think lots of people with me here) do definitely not think she has committed a crime. We are just with a lot of people talking about this and it seems most of them have the same opinion.
I really get that she is happy, overjoyed and obviously wants to share her pregnancy with everyone. And yes, she is glowing, beautiful and seems kind, heart-warming and genuine. If I would be pregnant, I would cradle and touch my belly too, very often.
But all this doesn't mean that the (almost constant) cradling of her bump is appropriate for a duchess. Lots of people don't like it, as we can see. It looks like she draws even more attention to her bump, even though all eyes are already fixed at it. Is that really necessary? We haven't seen her doing this for the first time, but a lot of times, even when her bump was hardly visible. So at long term, it can start to be annoying. And she is not just someone who can do what she wants, even though we live in 2018. She is a Duchess, a role model and an identification figure. She is member of a very strict royal family so she has to think about what she does, says, wears, etc. And yes, everything she does will always find criticism.
I also think that she still needs time to grow in her role, it must have been a rollercoaster for her.
I wish her the best of luck in everything.

    2. Dear Rosalyn, I appreciate your thoughtful response. Please see Franny's point below re: how photos are chosen by editors and websites for maximum effect. Meghan actually is not cradling her baby bump all the time. Those are the photos the most shown. And, based on the responses to these photo picks, the editors got what they wanted.
I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on the tummy cradling. I truly see nothing wrong with cradling your belly while pregnant for a duchess. So many rules that used to horrify have justifiably gone away. It used to be horrible to picture a royal person drinking from a glass or eating! Anyway, I wish Meghan well, as you do. Hoping for a healthy baby and hoping this "press stress" does not affect her blood pressure or cortisol levels, which can harm a fetus.

    3. Yes, I read Franny's comment and totally agreed with it :-) And it's okay to have different opinions. We all would struggle with such an enormous way of changing your life like she had to do and we all should give her the time she needs to 'fit' in The Firm. Rules have indeed changed and they will still. Perhaps we all have to accept that Meghan is an unique person and I also think we should stop making comparisons to other royals; each has her/ his own personality and style.
I have to say that I'm glad you brought it in a nice and kind way and not hostile like others sometimes do!!

  36. Meghan looks stunning! This dress is reminiscent of something Diana would have worn. I like her choice of jewelry by Turquoise Mountain Foundation, which was founded by Prince Charles. The dark nails are fine here because this event about fashion, and she is not representing the queen. As for the comments against her holding her bump, I can't imagine a better way to demonstrate women's empowerment than to show the beauty of carrying a child, something only a woman can do. Meghan is not seen every day, and it is exciting for many of us to see the progression of the pregnancy. Just as Meghan is affectionate with Harry, is it possible she is just as affectionate with her baby?

  37. Well, the dress is very elegant and nice on her body and figure. Her hair is nice too, but very straight. Perhaps I am the only one who likes it when her bun is not so tight and straight. A nice and neat updo with a few loose locks would soften her face. The nail polish is way too dark. I don't think that suits a royal.
And yes, I also agree with the cradling. I can imagine that she is overjoyed with her pregnancy and I am really happy for them, but I can't stop thinking that it is also a bit... show. Attention. All eyes are already fixed on her bump, so why the extra attention she draws to it? She already started cradling her bump when it was hardly visible. It's not royalty-like and I know that this doesn't mean it is forbidden, but still... I think I would cradle my bump too, very often, if I would be pregnant, but not constantly in public. And definitely not as a royal.

  41. This woman always poses, no matter what she does. Her life is like an endless movie for her, in which she always plays the leading role. And the royal scenery is like a big big screen for her.

  42. Megs still looks at herself as a "celebrity". Those entertainment celebrities always show their bumps off. I keep expecting her to wear a skin tight top like all celebrities do. She will always be an actress and be the "celebrity" of the Firm.

  44. don't you think what you call "acting/posing" is her way of protection? (I image no actor is showing there real me while beeing interviewed or photographed) She is a professional actress, so I would imagine she is acting while doing her deeds. Don't we wish sometimes we could all act sometimes and hide our real emotions and thoughts. Must be very hard to learn everything so fast, so it's hard to shake some habits.

that said, the dress is very nice.

  45. I think that most people are just looking for a reason to dislike her. She's new to the ways of being royal. The Duchess of Cambridge had more time and training to become accustomed to royal life. Right now the Duchess of Sussex is relying a lot on her acting background and her experience of being on camera/posing. I wish people would just be really honest about why they dislike her instead of just putting it on "poor fashion choices" or cradling her belly too much. Oh let's not forget the other reasons people don't like her like holding the Duke's hand too much, her hair, dark nail polish, hosiery, her "fake" smile, she's always "acting", etc. I think it is so ironic that doing your duty in the Royal Family means that no matter how you feel you keep your emotions in check, smile, wave and work the crowds. Dare I say that is kind of like "acting", right? I tip my hat to the Duchesses of Cambridge and Sussex because the level of idiotic scrutiny they both receive is just too much.

  46. Since when has she supported British fashion ?!!
Even here she is wearing Givenchy gown .

    1. The Givenchy designer is British. And she has worn British designs several times including high street items.

    2. I agree! and Clare Waight Keller winning designer of the year because she designed that NOT impressive wedding gown

    3. The designer may be British but the House of Givenchy is definitely French.

  47. @ 3:54 I cannot agree with you more. I hope that the husband is vehement in his defence of her. He chose her, and it is prudent to be supportive or just say nothing. The clean lines and simplicity of this velvet look are ideal for a pregnant lady. The nail polish is unimportant nit picking. As for the tummy cradling, it is heavy and uncomfortable for someone who probably weighed 115 lbs, with thin limbs to gain another 20 lbs in only one part of the body. To be sure she did not spend the entire evening doing this.
This is not a criticism, it is a fact that even after 10 years of training, the other Duchess could not be let out in the wild on her own like this. Meghan is relying on her prior knowledge and skills as she learns a new way of life, and is trying her best.

    1. Being thin is no reason to cradle your stomach. I was 95lbs when I was pregnant with my son. When he was born he was in the 95% percent of babies born regarding his weight and length. I did not need to cradle anything. It is a choice. We do not know her motives, but it is definitely a choice, especially in her first trimester.

    2. Agree! She craves the attention.

    3. @6:02 That was your experience. Let Meghan have hers. Strategically chosen pictures can lead readers in a chosen direction. Some however, will maintain their objectivity.

  50. She looks beautiful, très Audrey (and in Givenchy too). Black is her colour and simplicity her style. Cradling ones babybump is fine with me, but that Demi Moore pose is not my cup of tea.

  51. I am not a Meghan fan at all. But just looking at the fashion here, the dress is quite chic and elegant. I do not care for the slicked back hair on her (or Victoria) and the dark nail polish is not attractive. The gold shoes and bracelet are pretty and complement the dress.

  52. The reason she cradled her bump, maybe baby was a little active ! Remember a similar thing with CP Victoria. She was on stage, she was pregnant with Oscar, he kicked and she cradled her bump. I think she's having twins, and if so, she has double the activity ! :-)

    2. You are right. An article came out today that apparently the baby was kicking. And they can kick quite hard!

    3. I have thought the same thing. I had one baby that was VERY active. Loud noise bothered him in utero. His excessive movement made me uncomfortable sometimes, and I rubbed my belly a lot to calm him down and relieve the itching from the stretching skin. Just a thought...maybe Kate would have been more inclined to cradle her bumps if she wasn't always wearing coats.

    4. Victoria gave birth a few days/weeks later, it's hardly the same. She only put one hand on her belly when you saw Oscar kicking.

This moment on stage wasn't about Meghan. She could've waited to hold her belly until she was backstage. But this was attention seeking, she did it twice whilst onstage in a few minutes time.

I really like Meghan, but I think this was not professional and a bit unrespectful to mrs. Keller.

    1. Tanne, do you think it's OK to insult a woman hiding behind your keyboard? What do you know about her life or her friends? Zero, that is what you know, getting your knowledge from tabloids and then spewing hate it's malicious and ignorant. In my humble opinion you should find a different forum.
      Magda.

    2. Tabloid is one thing, but a wedding another. No family at all, except her mother, who seems have no parents or other relatives either.
Meghan herself, before she meet Harry, was never seen with any famous people at all....not private only charity, but not that often. So if you believe that this is a nice person, good for you.I believe something else.
Future will tell us the truth.

    3. Once again, you need yo start adulting and stop believing all the stuff in the tabloids, but if you choose to do so, and go up in the internet pulpit to judge a person, at a minimum do it with facts, because your statement shows that you know very little about this woman's public work, and zero about her as a person, and neither do I, and that is why your comments are based on your feelings, distrust, and possibly some genuine dislike. It's OK not to like some people, but it's never acceptable to insult them, it's a very sad reflection of yourself

  54. So today I ran across some articles that stated "cradling" a baby bump is encouraged as it starts to build the bond bwt Mother and child. We know babies recognize their Mothers when born and it is thought that this cradling aka almost hugging the baby bump is another layer that provides the baby with a sense of comfort and love. So, this is something they do these days. I have a friend who is a pediatrician and we had a chat about this and she said cradling is a natural and IS ENCOURAGED just as the articles I read.

Fyi I also saw some pics of Kate, Kim K and a few others posing for pictures or talking with others ALL CRADLING.

If this makes ppl uncomfortable I have to think that says more about that person's own issues and feelings about their body etc.

Cradle away Meghan!! Your baby. Your body. Your life.

  55. Meghan needs to realise, or maybe she does, the British ways and appreciate them. Hugging your tummy is not what we do here n esp if u r in the Royal circles. Sorry, but it is not getting good press, n her antics r reaching news. Hope she can steer things around as she did when she first arrived...u must appreciate the ‘host’ culture that u live in.

    2. So ALL British women are cold toward their children, born or unborn? That makes no sense. It is a loving gesture. I wouldn't want to speak on behalf of ALL the women in my country. That is a dangerous thing to do. It sounds as if nothing she does gets good press, so why should she stress out about the little things? I would think the people in your country would be cheering her on, hoping Harry and Meghan have the happiest and most successful marriage ever. Instead, you are well on your way to making Harry relive the the unhappiness he had to watch with his mother. Where is the country's loyalty to your prince?
