  1. Le couple impérial porte à merveille la couleur turquoise tant l’empereur dans sa cravate pour être à l’unisson de son épouse vêtue d’un élégant ensemble jusque dans ses chaussures !

Their Majesties made even during official engagements such a relaxed happy impression as is hardly seen on pictures taken in Japan. They obviously had a good time. Wunderful!

yes i noticed that both in Netherlands and Belgium, most of the time Emperor had no tie and Empress no hat & gloves

With the high temperatures we have nobody expected them to wear hats, ties and gloves. Only for the official part the empress wore a hat, gloves,... and the emperor a tie. Just like the European kings and queen do.

I very much like what the Empress is wearing; lovely colour and design. The white trim and buttons really add to the look as well. Maybe she could have worn shoes in a contrasting colour, but the clutch is white, so I won't quibble! The Emperor again is wearing a matching tie, I love that he does this.

Such a great colour and fit. Her shoes have the narrow piping on the vamp to match the suit. I feel if it was a tad short it would be more in proportion to her height, but regardless is very pretty. Love the buttons,

    1. My thoughts exactly. Lovely colour and detailing but wish the skirt was a little shorter.

The Empress’s blue suit is a wonderful color on her with pretty pearl buttons and white detailing. Her shoes match the suit beautifully. She and the Emperor look very friendly and relaxed.

The jacket is OK. The skirt is not falling good and is too long. It is nice the shoes have the same color as her ensemble but the front parts are again too flat and too high closed. Her feet are swelling easily, maybe also because of the hot weather. Therefore she should wear shoes with a less high closed front part.

This is a beautiful outfit that just seems to spell summer: it is looser and not too fitted, it seems to be made of cooling linen, or a linen blend, and it is the colour of a summer sky. Lovely.

Yet another lovely flattering color from HIM.
It’s been glorious watching TM’s on both royal tours. Here’s to a safe flight home.

This more “adventurous” style they both embraced during their visit is (in my opinion) a testimony of their close friendship with the Dutch and Belgian royal families. They supported the Empress when she needed someone in similar circumstances to encourage her to be herself and not succumb to pressure - often artificially fabricated by influential figures who couldn’t care less about the spirit of Japanese traditions, just used as false pretexts.

Happy to see them staying close to these other royals. Fashion wise this tour must have felt empowering. Odd when you consider how senior they are, but not surprisingly they aren’t a unique case.

Also, without pretending I know much about them, the events in Japan attended by the imperial family seem to be so entranced in long traditions, it probably doesn’t feel right to go much outse the norms. So they are very likely dressing for the occasion. This tour was almost a vacation (I think) 🙂

  13. The white trim and white buttons, elevate the overall look. The fit is a little more generous which I find attractive. The blue shoes and white clutch is a clever addition. She looks elegant and stylish in this ensemble.

  14. I Think everyone in both countries should be feeling elated at the resounding success of this tour, Since I read that Masako was a stand-out softball player in her school days, she would understand this analogy. After all her health struggles, this Empress joined the team and really stepped up to the plate . Whether it was her fashion choices, her demeanor, her approachability, Masako knocked it out of the park.
