On June 10, 2026, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium attended the closing concert of the 2026 Queen Elisabeth Cello Competition at Bozar in Brussels. At this year’s cello competition closing concert, the top three prize winners—Ettore Pagano, Tae-Yeon Kim, and Leland Ko—gave a joint performance accompanied by the Brussels Philharmonic, conducted by Samy Rachid. Queen Mathilde wore a fuchsia dress by Carolina Herrera.

The Queen looks great in bright colors and this hot pink is very flattering. As for the dress, there’s just so much fabric that it drowns the wearer, but I will say that I think the Queen wears it better than the model.

I love the fuschia colour of this CH dress, but as for the skirt, I'm not used to seeing Mathilde in such a full and long skirt when it's not on a ball gown, so that's a bit off for me. On a shirt dress such as this, it's too much given her short waist. In the 2nd last photo, where you can only see the top half of the dress, I think that looks perfect. I'm also happy that she tied the waist belt as a knot and not as a bow. A bow would have been excessive.

  3. She looks stunning, color and style of dress great. Slight quibble the length and the extra volume of fabric, this adds bulk that is not there. Love her pink clutch and shoes. She looks very elegant.

The color is beautiful and the length appropriate, but imo everything above the waist is unflatteringly big and boxy. Below the waist, it is wonderfully elegant and would make a fabulous evening skirt. A blouse cut closer to the body and with long, semi-sheer sleeves, would complement such a skirt beautifully.

I do not like shirt dresses in general. The first picture I saw of this dress I thought it was by Q.Mathilde's go to designer Natan. Especially since he had made similar shorter dresses for her in the past. Very surprised it was by Carolina Herrera. The color is one Q.Mathilde's favourite colors and it suits her. On the other hand in a long version I do not like this dress very much.
She has many beautiful dresses she could have worn for the closing concert.
It is the first time in almost a year I see the queen in a dress that I really don't like. I hope she will be dressed better when the Emperor and Empress of Japan are coming on official visit to Belgium by the end of this month.

    1. I agree. This is a bit on the disappointing side. Not the colour, the colour looks very good on her. The design, the cut (maybe?), the overusing of fabric, is what throws me a bit off here.

The colour is wonderful for the Queen. The waistline unfortunately is not so wonderful and does no favours.

Très joli modèle de couleur fuchsia que la Reine porte à merveille car sa grandeur équilibre son allure !

I love the bright pink of this dress so much, and I think Mathilde looks wonderful in this colour. The fullness of the style may seem a bit overwhelming, but she's tall and elegant so I think it looks fine.

  9. The colour of this dress is gorgeous. But I don't like the length. It seems like too much fabric even for Mathilde. The bow is also a bit messy. I like the way it was tied more neatly on the model. If the dress was shorter and the bow was smaller it would look smashing. This design is a rare miss for CH.

  10. The color is very beautiful and certainly suits her, but not the model of the dress. This would have been much better on the Princess of Wales or Queen Letizia.

I like this dress, the color and the fit. She is tall so can wear clothes that has a little more volume, a pleasant change from tight form fitting. The shoes are perfect. The sleeve is a nice length so a shawl in not needed.

The color of this dress looks great on Mathilde, but the stiff fabric and the full-length shirt dress style are not the most flattering.

I forgot to mention that the fuchsia dress has been worn for the first time last year (2025) also at the Queen Elisabeth music competition. Queen Mathilde is also wearing the same jewelry as last year : the kunzite earrings (pink stones) as well as the kunzite ring and bracelet. She is wearing a fuchsia clutch by Georgio Armani as well as fuchsia shoes.

This dress is awful. The color is gorgeous and looks great on Queen Mathilde but the style is a big no. If it overwhelms the model in the picture - which I think it does - it is going to engulf a person of normal proportions. I wonder if she fell in love with the color and fabric and said I'm wearing it anyway?

I disagree, it is not awful, just a different fit. Shirt dresses seems to be popping up for the summer.
