Ahead of the Royal Couple’s 50th wedding anniversary, King Carl Gustaf presented Queen Silvia with the Seraphim Medal in recognition of her exceptionally significant humanitarian contributions spanning more than half a century. The medal presentation ceremony at the Royal Palace in Stockholm was attended by Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, Prince Carl Philip, Princess Sofia, and Princess Madeleine.

The Seraphim Medal is Sweden’s highest honorary medal and is also the world’s oldest merit medal still awarded today. For 50 years, the Queen has initiated, championed, and led humanitarian efforts of great significance to many people, both in Sweden and abroad. Organizations founded by the Queen include Mentor, the Childhood, and Silviahemmet.
