On May 17, 2026, the Duchess of Sussex attended the inauguration ceremony for The Lost Screen Memorial at Place des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, ahead of the opening of the 79th World Health Assembly. The Duchess was joined by World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, global health leaders, ministers, and families affected by online harm.

Hosted by the World Health Organization and Archewell Philanthropies, the installation features fifty illuminated lightboxes, each displaying the lock-screen image of a child who lost their life as a result of online violence and digital harm. Positioned beneath the iconic Broken Chair monument, The Lost Screen Memorial serves both as a tribute to children lost to online harm and as a call for coordinated global action to ensure digital spaces are safe by design.

Perfect outfit for the occasion. Beautiful but understated ensuring she is not the centre of attention. Her speech was amazing too. Whatever you think of her, please think about the message of this event - the fact that the WHO director thinks having Meghan there is a good thing, suggests the decision was taken at the highest levels. Online bullying is not ok, and when children are involved it is even worse. LRB

@09:22, please stop to discipline others. As for the WHO (director), since COVID (he and) it have lost a lot of credibility so don't use them as authority for inviting whomever. Thank you.

I liked the suit the first time she wore it. It's professional and polished. Her speech was great. I am heartbroken for the families. The stories were so sad. Great cause. WHO is influential enough to bring ministers from across the world to highlight the need for intervention to make the digital space safer for children and everyone.

The Duchess looks pretty, though no details recognizable because of the colour. IMHO, it would not have been necessary to wear all-black, as the other persons don't do it either, a non-black top would be enough to make it less "in-your-face". The effect is quite similar to that of her facial expression: The display of mournful concern is overdone in both.

If she had worn other colours than black, you would have said she doesn't care enough. No matter what she will do or say or wear, for people like you it will never be OK.
Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus is doing his job seriously. He encounters so many people like Queen Mathilde, Queen Maxima, etc... at the UN conferences and as an invited personality at the home of the royals in Belgium and The Netherlands that he knows the difference between people who honestly wish to do everything they can to help and those who only are there for the show and are seen more on parties than during visits to the people who need it in poor countries . As the Director general of the WHO, I think he has enough things on his mind and if he takes the time to listen to people he will know quickly who really cares and wish to help. In this case the (bad) influence of the digital era on young people and what to do to protect them and us.

She looked appropriate and yes very pretty to me as well. But overdone concern? Photos of children no longer with us.🙄 I was upset reading about them and not interacting with any families. Good for WHO and Meghan bringing more eyes to the mission their grieving families have been tirelessly trying to bring awareness and action to.

For me, the black outfit looks very neutral and appropriate for this occasion, however, Meghan’s makeup is extremely heavy and she would have done herself much more justice if she had avoided yet another vehicle for UNNECESSARY criticism.

Well thankfully most people are focusing and reading about the lives of the children, the families trying to stop more grief, and not a very beautiful woman's makeup. She looked professional. Her speech was excellent and they've done great work with the Parent Network which joined Parents Together. You people will criticize helping people with children lost in one of the most devastating manner.

Well, finally, this is a near perfect event, reflective of what their post working royal life could continue to look like and in my humble opinion, what it should look like. I think this is exactly the type of project Archewell should undertake; the installation is amazing. The speech was powerful. Her interaction with the families and public heartfelt and lovely. The look, elegant.

Your opinion not everyone's. She's a married woman that I assume works at having a healthy relationship with her husband, spends her time with him caring for their children together, working to provide for them together and separately, and helping great causes together and separately. If more people online did that instead of harassing and bullying people you don't know because you don't like them we would have a better world. Just my opinion.

The Duchess looks appropriate for the memorial event. I like the suit, her hair looks nice and that neckline is elegant.

This is such an important topic though, that they should have brought in someone with more power and resources to really bring awareness to this issue. I’m not sure the Duchess is quite the right person for that. Does she bring enough gravitas and credibility to the issue to really make an impact?

@17:56, "Impact": just have a look at the photos/videos made at the memorial. The site was cordonned off for security, but nobody came to be cordonned off. I would suspect that she might have been chosen because she offered her services.

An important topic that they started Parents Network 2 years ago to focus on and last year, only a year later Parents Together a larger foundation brought it into their foundation. Archewell was a host as well and it brought in leaders and currently serving ministers from around the world.Hopefully they're attending because they want to lessen online harm. I hope so.

The cyclist in yellow at about 10mins into her speech makes me laugh. Saunters up, has a look, nothing interesting here, and moves on. No adoring crowd, in fact no crowd at all. In Geneva we are impressed by good work and problem solving, but rarely by speeches, even if a well known tv actress reads them out dramatically.

Different people notice different things. I looked trying to get a good view of the faces and listened to Meghan's speech twice. I looked at the crying parents that lost their children. Nothing to laugh about. A crowd wasn't the point. They can clearly draw those with not much warning as Australia showed. She didn't orchestrate one and I'm glad of it. The important thing was the ministers and if they are going to try and implement change back at home, but social media companies are big business. Bad for our health or not. Nothing to laugh about.

C’est terrible comment les femmes peuvent rabaisser les autres femmes. And then - why exactly fly to Geneva? it is a well known fact that rich Silicon Valley (California!) tech parents are very restrictive with their children's use of screens in general, so of the Internet too. She lives there, so it would be easy to team up to existing initiatives or make new ones and be active there, if she really wants to focus on this topic. But I am afraid her focus is on herself. Because: Tedros and the WHO do not need her for publicity, the WHO gets this amount anyway by sending out the date for the press. But Meghan does need Tedros and the WHO for publicity, because she does not get it anyway, so she flies to Geneva for it. - They day before she places a backwards photo of her daughter on Instagram ... using her before she could decide if she wants it or not. Yes, let's talk about online harm! I hope Helen does not mind this little piece of additional information.

Keep up. Try reading. I know you're here to criticize but dishonesty is ugly. Meghan isn't harming her child by posting a picture. She's giving a little look into her life as a Mom and a view of a child that is regularly dehumanized by lunatics everyday.

  20. The overall outfit, look is good. I love the jacket, well-made and length is nice. The pants on the other hand I dislike too baggy/long. I have said very often on this fashion blog of my dislike of pants such as this. I also find her makeup very heavily applied. Photos of her side view online elsewhere, her neck so much paler than her facial skin, I say this sincerely. Not sure if its the application of the product applied too thickly or choice of color tone, major difference and highly noticeable, from both angles of photos. Her eye makeup equally heavier than usual, making her eyes appear even smaller. Same with the harsh darkness of the eyebrows. I understand the wanting of definition for this particular feature but on this occasion it looks harsh. I love her hair back off her face. She is wearing a simple gold necklace, with a small green emerald and a small round diamond, placement is near to the front of her neck, up close its very attractive.

And even though this isn't a fashion statement, I'm happy to see her engage in something where she isn't the star but a supportive presence. I hope she continues in this direction.
