Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako made a two-day visit to Ehime Prefecture on the occasion of the 76th National Tree Planting Festival. On Sunday, May 17, 2026, the Emperor and Empress attended the ceremony of the 76th National Tree Planting Festival at the Ehime Prefectural Sports Complex. The Emperor and Empress also visited Tobe Zoological Park.
The National Tree Planting Festival has been held since 1950 as a central event of the national greening movement. Its purpose is to deepen public understanding of forests and greenery, which form the foundation of the nation’s rich natural environment.
Tobe Zoological Park is home to more than 635 animals representing 144 species. The zoo’s most popular animal is Peace, a polar bear that was hand-reared through bottle feeding.
