On May 6, 2026, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, together with Minister of Education, Culture and Science Rianne Letschert, opened the Dutch pavilion at the Venice Biennale. The Dutch entry at the 61st edition of the Biennale is titled The Fortress and has been developed by artist Dries Verhoeven in collaboration with curator Rieke Vos.
The King, Queen, and Minister Letschert visited The Fortress in the Dutch pavilion and subsequently several other national pavilions in the Giardini della Biennale, the park in Venice that hosts a large part of the exhibition. The Royal Couple were also presented with a book: a historical overview of Dutch entries from 1895 to 2024.
The Venice Biennale is one of the largest international art exhibitions and has been held biennially in the Italian city since 1895. The 61st edition of the Venice Biennale will take place from May 9 to November 22, 2026. Queen Máxima wore a skirt, top, and jacket by Dutch designer Mattijs van Bergen. This three-piece set was first worn in March 2017 during the state visit of Argentine President Macri.

Oh, dit is toch jammer, erg theatraal en gedateerd. De platina blonde lokken maken het er niet beter op, ze heeft zo veel mooiere kleding.
ReplyDeleteAgree !!
DeleteA rewear but a little bit outdated imv. The hat is a kind of weard on her hat?
ReplyDeleteQu’elle est superbe ; il me semble lui avoir déjà vu cet ensemble !
ReplyDeleteThis is very-very- pretty ... sure quite old and re-worn, if we judge from the skirt length (that I wish to come back for good). She looks adorable.
ReplyDeletePlastic shoes ? !
ReplyDeleteFancy dress today! lol.
ReplyDeleteher hair looks terrific which is not something you can say about the lovely Maxima very often
ReplyDeleteThe jacket is too small.
ReplyDeleteIt’s a similar fit to the model. It is the design I think, correctly fitted.
DeleteIn theory this outfit looks good but something seems off to me this time Maxima wears it (since the first wear in 2017). Maybe the shoes are too high for that short of a skirt, or the new hat doesn't quite go with the outfit, or maybe she has outgrown the style of this ensemble from nearly 10 years ago? Hard to say. However I'll give her points for choosing a re-wear, and she still looks very presentable.

Maxima pus surprend toujours agréablement. Josée.
ReplyDeleteThis outfit looks stunning, love the jacket and skirt, equally the hat, she definitely has flair and elegance. The pearl necklace and bracelet elevated this look. Beautiful presentation.
ReplyDeleteAgree Ava
DeleteShe looks fabulous and the smile makes even better.
ReplyDeleteShe really does
DeleteThis combi doesnot work anymore. Longer skirt would make the silhouet better. The hat is not placed well, but overall too big and not necessary.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't work *any more*, so it worked earlier, why exactly? Máxima is not a model to showcase latest fashion.
DeleteAnon 10:14: It doesnot work anymore because Maxima is 10 years older than the first time she wore this skirt
DeleteI think it’s looking fabulous. It certainly still “works”!
DeleteI’m just not sure about this outfit and think it may be the hat - it all feels a bit much with hat volume and skirt volume. I took one glance at the shoes and decided they were best ignored! Hair is lovely. As always nice to see a joint engagement - WA’s outfit normally matches in some way but not today.
ReplyDeleteIf she is trying to turn back time it hasn`t worked with this outfit. Plastic sided shoes! A 1950`s tea party skirt, tight jacket, and overload on pearls!! A hat that is unnecceasy, too large, looks ridiculous!!! Hair looks better but should have been tamed into a chignon.
ReplyDeleteLet’s agree to disagree? And that rather than “it hasn’t worked”, it’s simply you don’t like it? Which is fine … but on this other side, I love it. I think she looks elegant and joyful. 10/10.
DeleteThe skirt was new in 2017 the style is maybe 1950's but that style we are wearing again because it is fashion again. The pearls she is wearing are not better or not worse than those worn by the British royal ladies and so is the hat. It looks not more ridiculous than the hats Camilla, Sophie, Anne are wearing during their tea parties.
Lets say its not in harmony she had better things in het closet :)
DeleteThis would have been the occasion to wear the Louboutin high heels instead of at Remembrance Day in Holland a few days ago. She must have a fashion adviser at home I would think.
ReplyDeleteI love this outfit. It’s so Maxima: joyful, fun, elegant. I don’t even understand those who don’t like it as I find it so lovely! It’s neither too short nor too tight. The large black hat complements the dress and jacket extremely well.
ReplyDeleteJoan Collins 80’s vibes.
ReplyDeletePrachtige combi.
ReplyDeletePlastic shoes look a wee cheap. The hat resembles a bowl. Nice jewelry.
ReplyDeleteToo much Joan collins '80's vibe.
ReplyDeleteI like this outfit, maybe a tad longer skirt, but overall she looks great. Perhaps the group picture makes the skirt looking too short next to the long dresses.
ReplyDeleteApart from the hat, it's a nice outfit. The accessories are also better chosen - are those real pearls? I don't know why she keeps wearing those huge mega hats. In my opinion, they're not nice.
ReplyDeleteStephanie
Let’s assume that she wears them because she likes them! Which girl needs more reason than that?
DeleteNice to see something bit different.
ReplyDeleteI am struck by how beautiful her hair is styled today. Soft and flowing.
