Hello 15:26, please don’t tell others to grow up here; it’s an awful thing to say. I’m not sure why the Dutch commenter writes the comment about the Wales, but it’s arguably worse to aim your comment directly at another commenter who you don’t know, who is a stranger to you ! For my part I think Catherine looks terrific and as always, very classically dressed.

14:59 would you mind in future commenting a little fuller so instead of just a negative thought, you discuss a little - kindly - why you like or don’t like the fashion? Just writing you don’t like it doesn’t add to a nice conversation and feels a little harsh.

I agree - she has a long body and short legs ( comparatively I know she is tall) and this dress accentuates the very long body and chops off her legs because of where the ruffle starts. LRB

I don't think she has a long torso, but the dress has what is normally called an "elongated waist" and I think it is somewhat too much elongated ... not Catherine, but the dress, 25 cm upwards would be nicer. But other than that, I am happy to see a less closed neckline and the dress is pretty, and hair not in the front is very becoming.

    https://www.newmyroyals.com/2026/02/the-princess-of-wales-visits-melin.html

Fact is that languages have a mesmerizing power over me and Welsh Is no exception.
So interesting to know that P.William has been studying Welsh
" phonetically" for some years now.
As far as I can remember from my studies, Welsh is more inflectional and conservative than English and is spoken outside the United Kingdom (there is the Patagonian Welsh, as well)!

Find it interesting that it seems totally OK to express if you, for whatever reson, do not like what royals from different countries are wearing, while at the same time the same is not allowed about British royals. I’ve seen the Princess of Wales wearing other, in my opinion, better looking dresses than this one but it’s OK. She looks comfortable and happy.

I don’t think that’s true. Different people have different opinions and state them at various times. There are many very kind people here who look for the best and rarely say something that would hurt the feelings of the wearer, if she were to stumble across this blog (as indeed the young princesses may). They’re my favourite! Then there are others who sometimes don’t like something and say it, not country dependent. And others who are systematically negative.

    7. غير معرف2/3/26 11:37

@Anon 08:05, "Emotion vs opinion", I will explain it better. In saying you like something/somebody, you are talking about *yourself*. And sorry to say: most people are not interested to know that somebody they on't know likes something. On the contrary, saying that a dress is attractive because of XYZ features, you are talking about an outfit, not about yourself. The topic of this blog is not how you feel about the outfit (which is, sorry, totally uninteresting for others), , but what you can tell us about the outfit itself. Why do people think that it is interesting for complete strangers to know that they like something is beyond me.

      حذف
    8. Hi 11:37 Some people take it the easy way and say "I don't like it"; don't be tough towards them. It is not so easy to speak about clothing features in a foreign language. In addition you then need to have adequate observation skills about clothes.

You are exactly right, @ Mary T.
English underwent a peculiar development (some endings got lost from Middle English onwards) mainly due to its being an insular language.
It would take plenty of time to explain how all this was possibile!
Conversely, Germanic languages spoken on the mainland kept a number of original specific features (see verbs in German , for example) and some Scandinavian languages did as well-Danish having developed a bit differently-.
I remember that my Germanistics Professor devoted at least ten lessons to the evolution of the verbs in German.
      Just an example :
from * Germanic "bringan" to the German verb " bringen" as opposed to the English verb " bring".
All have the same meaning but the final " an/en" endings got lost in English.
It is such a fascinating topic , pity I do not have all the time I wish to brush up on my university books!

Some do, but we should ignore those comments. I have been on this blog for over a decade and it reflects the greater change in society, but I still check in everyday to see the photos and comments. Let’s give everyone a bit of a pass that they are putting out what they want and roll forward.

Catherine has worn this dress a few times therefore, either because it is colour appropriate for the event or she really likes it. It does have lovely movement, but I prefer the higher height of the drop waist as shown on the model, Catherine has incredible long legs and the lower drop seems to give an optical illusion of the opposite.
P.William started studying Welsh many years ago, and Catherine did speak it on her first visit to Wales but certainly seems very confident in speaking it now. Welsh is mainly spoken in N.Wales, infact only about 27% of the population of Wales does.

The colour of the dress is gorgeous and I do like the material. However, this cut and the way the dress is tailored further accentuates the princess' long torso.

Just my opinion, this type of dress could work really well on the Duchess of Sussex who has a short torso. It is also my opinion that the two woman have the same body type, just differences in torso lengths.

@ P the original - Welsh is an individual language. It has no similarity to German, it is a Celtic Brittonic or Brythonic language. Henry 8th restricted it's use in legal and administrative matters in 1536 and so it's use declined. Pockets of population continued speaking it, but is only widely used in North Wales.

As I said above, It would take plenty of time to explain all the languages phenomena involved.
I never said Welsh is a Germanic language, it is a pre- existing Celtic language , prior to Roman invasion.
If I had made an extensive treaty, people would have said I was " lecturing" them, or the like.
Nothing Is accepted on this blog by now, neither fashion comments, nor other type of discussions.
What you said is a topic widely dealt with by Germanistics ( German Philology) Professors at University- as happened in my case as I was one of their students- but I can't delve into any single aspect of Celtic and German languages on this fashion blog.
I said that Welsh is inflectional and more conservative (it means , It still keeps pre- Roman, autoctone features of the Cymric language).
Lastly , please, get correct information about the areas where Welsh is still spoken, outside of the U.K., too, though in small percentages.
