On March 2, 2026, Princess Aiko of Japan visited the 57th Modern Women’s Calligraphy Exhibition at Nihombashi Takashimaya in Chuo Ward, Tokyo. It was her first time attending the exhibition. The venue featured works by 123 female calligraphers, including pieces in kanji and kana, seal engraving (tenkoku), carved characters, and avant-garde calligraphy.
Princess Aiko spent more than 40 minutes viewing the works and commented that they were “wonderful.” At the annual New Year’s Poetry Reading Ceremony (Utakai Hajime), Princess Aiko also transcribes her own waka poems in brush calligraphy. Upon leaving the venue, she reportedly expressed to the calligraphers serving as guides her desire to further pursue the study of calligraphy.

ردحذفWhat a lovely shade of yellow, it is a nice colour for her, though darker colours suit her complexion too. I like that the shape of the lapels is copied on the neckline of her dress. Her pin is pretty and dainty. The only miss is her shoes, a more open vamp would help, though they are perfect for comfort.
