On Monday, March 30, 2026, the Royal Household of Denmark announced that two new horses have joined the Royal Stables and have now been officially named. Queen Mary of Denmark had the honor of naming them, and the two horses are called Flik and Flak. This is not the first time the Royal Household has had horses named Flik and Flak. During the reign of King Christian X, a pair of horses bore the same names.
“The names are a perfect fit, as Flik and Flak continue a cherished tradition within the Royal Household,” the Royal Household stated. The two Oldenborg horses, born and bred in Denmark, will be based at the stables at Christiansborg Riding Ground, which already houses the Royal Household’s grey Kladruber horses.

ReplyDeleteThis jacket's stiff country-house retro style is a very particular aesthetic; and for Mary it's an unusually boxy look, although it fits her well enough.
ReplyDeleteThe shorter sleeves are likely part of the concept, and designed to show off the cuffs of the top underneath. I'd prefer to see a contrasting sweater underneath (e.g. oxblood, mustard, or black or as shown in in the website photo) with longer visible sleeves. And in my view the frilly collar could be left out, as I don't feel it's adding anything to the look.
But overall, I feel Mary is best suited to more classic tailoring styles. Lyra

DeleteI am sorry grey is not Mary’s best colour. She suits rich colours she is av(winter tone). I still think she is beautiful and she could wear a sack and look beautiful( we say in Australia).

This ensemble I feel is appropriate for this stables visit, I like the grey jacket. Her hair looks so healthy, lovely. Great length.
ReplyDeleteThis is pure college style, meant to be tight and snug, you can wear these classic tweedy items for ages, they are never out of fashion. I prefer the trimmer look with the white t-shirt, even a discreet pearl necklace would have topped it all.

ReplyDeleteMary looks perfect for a horsey naming visit to stables. Nobody needs to wear their very best colours or garments to visit horses! She looks neat and pretty and wearing a sensible set of colours. It amuses me that people above have mentioned imperfections or not her best colour … really, what do we need to put on our tiaras to name horses?! We should let our royals have normal days and special days and boring days too - as we do ! - without shredding their choices every time.

DeleteRoyals -- queens in particular -- don't make wardrobe choices in the way that we ordinary people do. Their outfits are selected months in advance by professional stylists. A queen may attend regular fit-checking sessions, and seasonal try-ons for new additions recommended by the stylist; but that's as far as royal input usually goes.
So I don't consider that Mary is personally responsible for the outfits she wears (nor most royals). These fashion choices aren't "hers". The fashions we see on this site are the choices of experienced and well-paid professionals, whose work, just like the work of any professional, should in my view be open to analysis and appraisal. These stylists are experts in their field -- not amateurs like us, styling ourselves in what leisure time we can spare! -- so there is no reason why they should ever produce imperfect or "boring" work, even for the most casual event, when they are at the top of their field -- and are being paid very well indeed to produce, consistently, a top quality result.
