German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife, Elke Büdenbender, are currently undertaking a state visit to the Netherlands. In the evening, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands hosted a state banquet at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam in honour of the German Federal President and Ms Büdenbender. Crown Princess Amalia and Prince Constantijn also attended the state banquet.
For the state banquet, Queen Máxima wore a floral-embroidered gown by Jan Taminiau. Queen Máxima accessorized the look with the Dutch Sapphire Tiara and Queen Emma’s Sapphire Bow Brooch. Crown Princess Amalia wore a blue embroidered crepe corset gown by Rachel Gilbert, paired with the Diamond Star Tiara.

All 3 ladies look lovely here; I think Frau Budenbender's red dress is my favourite though. She always dresses well in my opinion, whatever the occasion. Maxima's tiara and matching earrings are gorgeous; so are Amalia's although of an appropriately simpler design.
ReplyDeleteAgree with you: Frau Büdenbenders lovely coulour is the best.
DeleteAmalia’s dress has nice shoulders but is a bit too tight, and Maxima has an overdose of juwelery, not necessary on a patterned dress. When she wants this enormous brooch, why not on a shoulder: The upper part of the dress is not embroidered.
I agree the red dress of Frau Elke is the most beautiful, also nice color and shine on it!
DeleteTotally agree. The elegant red dress of Frau Elke Büdenbender stands out of the "crowd". I also like the lavender or light blue dress and the tiara of Princess Amalia very much.
DeleteThe Dutch royal ladies look lovely tonight. Queen Maxima know how to pull the Dutch Sapphire tiara perfectly. Princess Amalia’s hair and makeup are beautiful. Her diamond earrings are stunning. My only critique would be her dress. While I love the color, I am not a fan of the style.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was the same as some on here - all three ladies look great. No one person's dress is 'too much' or 'too little' compared to the others despite all three having different types of style. Mrs. Budenbender looks good in red, I've always like this Taminiau gown of Maxima, and P.Amalia suits the fitted simplicity of this lovely blue gown.

I love Mrs. Budenbender’s gown, and only wish she had chosen to wear a necklace, which would have completed her look beautifully. Maxima’s gown is gorgeous, and of course the tiara is a show-stopper but I don’t think sapphires go particularly well with the beige and brown tones of the dress.
ReplyDeleteWhere is Laurentine? Prince Constantijn has no spouse!
ReplyDeleteHe has a spouse, but tonight she was absent !!
DeleteHe has a spouse, but tonight she was absent !!
DeleteMaxima: head-to-toe gorgeous! I would LOVE to wear that gown
ReplyDeleteThe First Lady: lovely. A simple classic design will never fail. The warm rich colour and sheen of the fabric says it all.
Amalia: the 5-star tiara has a lightness of design, almost a fairytale look, which is perfect for a young woman, especially when worn with hair down. As far as the sleeves and bodice of her gown go, photos dont give us the best look -- but the delicate pale blue colour and the simple, narrow long lines of her gown create a perfect contrast to her flowing hair. Lovely. Lyra
Maxima is wearing a golden oldie. A beautiful embroidered dress although I always thought that the color was a bit bleach for her. Over all she looks wonderful. But today Amalia is the top for me. This great simple dress with just the necessary jewelry is really fantastic. No necklaces and lots of bracelets like Maxima would have done. Hopefully more of this style in the future. She is a beauty.

The jewelry is of course a beautiful historical piece. The ladies have appropriate and pretty outfits, but I like Mrs. Budenbender's dress the most. The red color brought her to life beautifully, showing off her slim figure and she glows. It's hard to believe that she is already in her sixties.

Wow! Nowadays GenZ royals prefer to wear Australian brands. Princess Amalia wearing Rachel Gilbert reminds me of Princess Eleonore wearing Alamour the Label for her 18th birthday portrait. Both from Australia.
ReplyDeleteThe sapphires seem to have been the obvious choice because the "national flower" (officially, there is no such thing) of Germany is considered to be the Cornflower. So, this might be a nod towards it. I am just not sure about pairing the rather big gun tiara with the much more delicate Jan Taminiau dress and its embroidery. There is a smaller sapphire tiara in the Dutch collection, and I would have preferred Queen Maxima to wear that particular one as it would have not overwhelmed the rest of the outfit. But, again, it's Maxima were are dealing with here. The Princess of Orange looks very well put together, tiara and all. Like it. Pity that Princess Laurentien didn't show up alongside her husband. The star of the state banquet to me is Mrs. Büdenbender. She truly looks fabulous in that red dress.
ReplyDeleteAgree !!
DeleteWow! What a treat to the eyes, I think all has been said nicer than I can write it.

Maxima and Amalia both look wonderful; they do full glam so well. The sapphire tiara is enormous, but Maxima has the poise and confidence to wear it well. The Dutch royals really have such exquisite jewelry.

I have read how Jan Taminiau had made the embroidery on Queen Maxima's gala dress.
ReplyDelete1. They took as an example the room with the Japanese wall screens in Huis ten Bosch. The flowers and the birds which appear on the screens have been copied on the silk of the dress.
2. The people with whom Jan Taminiau usually works when an embroidery like this one is wanted are specialsts in "broderie d'art". The flowers and birds have been hand painted.
3. The explanation I read on the Dutch website was very detailed and it is impossible to repeat all of it here.
I do not understand people who cannot appreciate an artistic creation of a good designer and all the work he and his collaborators put in it. If you have ordered such a dress (in 2015), it would be a shame you can only wear it once.
The tiara is the one QM wore for the enthronement as well as the earrings and the bracelet. The blue sapphires are repeating the blue flowers in the dress. I think the ruby Mellerio tiara would have looked even better with this dress and it matches the red sash.
CP Amalia looks beautiful in the light blue dress and the wedding tiara of her mother with the diamond stars of Queen Emma. On her wrist she is wearing a diamond bracelet. She shoulden't wear the golden sandals she usually wears with a gala dress. Her toes are almost reaching the floor and it is not very stylish. If she likes open sandals there are a lot of beautiful pairs which she can buy. Lucky there are carpets everywhere in the palace.
Elke Büdenbender is looking good in her red dress too. I like the way she did her hair. She dresses so much better than in the beginning when she was just the first lady of Germany.
I agree with 12:05 regarding the tiara - rather large and slightly askew, somehow just does not compliment the dress, which really needed something to lift the neckline- a more demure diamond tiara and necklace would have been more suitable, imo, sometime less is more!
ReplyDeleteAll of the ladies are dressed beautifully, but Queen Maxima looks absolutely stunning in that lovely gown. A perfect 10.
ReplyDeleteMaxima est merveilleuse. J adore la robe et le diadème. Le saphir ma pierre préférée avec l émeraude
ReplyDeleteJ aime la finesse du diadème de la princesse Amalia
