On March 12, 2026, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium hosted the traditional spring concert at the Royal Palace in Brussels. King Philippe, Queen Mathilde, and Prince Laurent welcomed 475 guests to the annual spring concert, which this year focused on the theme of innovation. The musical program was performed by the Fratres Trio, an atypical ensemble that brings together saxophone, violin, and piano.
For this concert, the piano was complemented by an exceptional instrument: a luthéal, made available by the Musical Instruments Museum (MIM) in Brussels. The luthéal is a rare mechanism invented in 1919 by the Belgian organ builder Georges Cloetens. It enables a piano to produce various timbres reminiscent of the harpsichord, the harp, the lute, and the cimbalom. For the occasion, Queen Mathilde wore an embroidered tulle jumpsuit by Elie Saab.

Very beautiful jumpsuit and hairstyle for Queen Mathilde !!
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful jumpsuit and hairstyle for Queen Mathilde !!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful outfit. Christine
ReplyDeleteI dislike this color and the proportions on her. Not sure if they'd work on anyone.
ReplyDeleteAgreed.
DeleteFully agree. It looks odd on her. CC
DeleteI also agree.
DeleteAbsolutely love the top, not keen on the shape of the pants, but it fits her as well as the model. Colour is nice on her .
ReplyDeleteI like this in theory: soft colours for spring, just the right amount of sparkle, and the perfect length covering most but not all of her shoes. But the result is still off. The bodice-to-trousers proportion makes Mathilde look like she´s only legs. The flared cut only aggravates that impression. The colour, while nice, is not ideal for Mathilde who needs stronger colours. (The dusty pink looks best on someone with a darker complexion.)
ReplyDeleteIn these photos, the jumpsuit looks best in movement, probably because there, the wide leg doesn´t show as much. I therefore think that a straight leg had been a much better design. And I would have chosen a purse in a contrasting colour, ideally something similar to Philippe´s tie (which is a great match).
Philippe suit jacket though is way too tight.
Also, I really want to shorten those curtains so they don´t drag on the floor.
The way the curtains are designed is not unusual for big curtains in rooms with high ceilings. Before the rooms in the Royal Palace were decorated with old fashion curtains. Each time there is a concert or a state visit or other event in the salons (rooms) of the Royal Palace I discover details which are new. It is all part of the renovation works which took place on the outside as well as on the inside. Thermic glass has been placed in the window frames to save energy. The electricity has been modernised, the classic lamps has been replaced by led light where it was possible. It was especially King Philippe who decided to do these renovation works. Now the Royal Palace is white on the outside (the façades has been cleaned which took a lot of time). The heating installations have been renovated, etc...
DeleteI agree Vanessa, good and fair observations regarding the unflattering cut.

@00:31: "The dusty pink looks best on someone with a darker complexion" - it cannot be generalized like this. Best example is Charlene - fair complexion and she can wear the most blergh of all colours, beige/sand, like no one else. Mathilde is excellent in white (as almost all of the ladies we look at here).
Delete@ Vanessa and @ Virginia
DeleteYou are both the only commenters who always have bad remarks concerning Queen Mathilde's outfits. Queen Mathilde's jumpsuit does not have a bad cut. Queen Mathilde is a normal and a beautiful lady who is not thin as a stick. Not everybody must look thin. Very thin is not considered by everybody as a sign of beauty. As long as Queen Mathilde is in good health that is what is important.
Even King Philippe receives bad comments on his suits now. You realize he is not a young man anymore ? You even have critics on the curtains in the palace ! There are other kings and princes in Europe whose suits are not fitting as well as the king's or are so old that they look more like a potatoe sack than a suit. King Philippe and Queen Mathilde are people with young and modern ideas. Although they like both beautiful and valuable furniture and art collections like paintings and older but beautiful jewelry which they buy and find in auctions, they realize that a castle and a palace need sometimes to be adapted to conservate it for the futur and protect the buildings against the changing climate and the energy crisis. They also like to adapt the decorations which need to be renovated like replacing old wall coverings by modern new materials like paint which forms the basis for displaying art collections like a series of paintings by the same painter and wall covering tapestry.

DeleteI don´t always have bad remarks concerning Mathilde´s outfits.
I didn´t say the jumpsuit had a bad cut. It actually fits her well, I just don´t like the flared trousers.
I explicitly talked about the bodice-to-trouser ratio, and that has nothing to do with how thin she is. I said nothing about her figure. Or about Phillippe´s for that matter. I just think he should invest in suits that fit him. His are amongst the worst in the royal world, probably only "surpassed" by Albert of Monaco.
I don't normally like jumpsuits, but this one is the exception, she looks fabulous. Love the fit and design of this pantsuit. The pants of the jumpsuit, perfect. The top section, beautifully crafted, it looks effective, and adequate. The color is sublime. Love the color of her clutch. Her earrings are gorgeous, very good choice. Her up style hair is the perfect finishing touch, this worked in well with her neckline.
ReplyDeleteOn my phone this color on Mathilde washes her out.
ReplyDeleteAlso , I have never been a fan of flared pants.
Cate.
I love this jumpsuit..it looks like separates. A good cut and fit on her.She wears it with aplombe(spelling?) and confidence
ReplyDeleteCompletely magnificent!
ReplyDeleteSuperbe ! la reine est belle. Elie Saab ici fait merveille.
ReplyDelete"Washes her out": Frequently used phrase for looking pale, but you can be "washed out" with black or red clothing as well if you are not prepared for the photographs. Mathilde is well prepared with a bit of makeup, I don't notice any paleness or the like. Hair is fabulous and yes, we see that she is broader at the hip than at the shoulder, but against all expectations, she looks fab, broad hips and all. Exception: trousers could be less broad at the bottom.
ReplyDeleteAt first I thought it was a remake of the pink jumpsuit (without the transparant cape) she wore last year at the final concert of the Queen Elisabeth music contest. When I looked it up I saw it was the same color and pant style but not identical. The top is different too, but both jumpsuits are by Elie Saab.
ReplyDeleteAnyway Queen Mathilde is looking perfect. The soft pînk colour is matching her skintone. I like her hair like this perfect for a gala evening. She is wearing the "Mathilde" earrings made of kunzite and diamonds by Jeweler Leysen in Brussels. She is a classic beautiful queen who is always trying to wear an up-to-date but chique fashion style.
Indeed absolute whoow
ReplyDeleteSeveral comments here above I don't share, mainly regarding proportions top/bottom and so-called paleness. To me it appears that the proportions on the model give a similar effect. I agree however that "trousers could be less broad at the bottom" as mentioned.
ReplyDelete"trousers could be less broad at the bottom" is the proportion problem
DeleteI agree with Vanessa, even about the window drapes. I think if she wore lower heels, the leggy look would be improved. That might be the only tweak necessary.
ReplyDeleteMagnifique combinaison mais à mon avis, ce n'est pas ce modèle qui convienne à sa silhouette !
ReplyDeleteI want to love the jumpsuit with the beautiful detailing on the top, but it makes Mathilde - and even the model - look very short-waisted.

Women with long legs have a shorter waist and women with shorter legs have a longer waist. That is how nature works. Most men like women with long legs.
ReplyDeleteIt is an automatic reaction among the commenters here. When they see Queen Mathilde the first thing we hear is "she is very short waisted" @ Anon. 11:19 and others. Several commenters are also describing the width of the trousers. 1. Wide trousers are still fashion. This is no problem for Queen Mathilde since she is tall. 2. Queen Maxima's trousers are much wider than Queen Mathilde's. 3. There are shorter queens and princesses who are wearing wide trousers too and they don't look good in it, just boxy.. What have the curtains to do with the queen's outfit ?
I think many people are jealous of the Queen of the Belgians. They are also jealous of the couple Mathilde and Philippe because there is an excellent understanding between the two of them. They are a beautiful couple plenty of good idea's like (just an exemple) asking a designer to help them with how re-decorating an old palace and an old castle. Curtains longer than necessary and hanging on the floor are often used in house designing.
Dear 15:51, Rubbish, when praise is due, I say positive things about queen Mathilde‘s garments, in this case it was not possible. In fact I admire this dignified queen who does her utmost to support the designers of her country.

I like the jumpsuit, only tall, long legged women like Mathilde can wear jumpsuits like this.
ReplyDeleteI like this look. This is how to wear a jumpsuit. QM is blessed with long legs, and so the trouser sits nicely. I love the sparkle top, fitting for an evening event.
ReplyDeleteLowri.
Total perfection. Great pantsuit and lovely hairstyle.
ReplyDeletecss
My thoughts exactly, @ CSS.
DeleteI suspect this jumpsuit would look even more visually effective if/ when seen in movement.
Surely something that turns heads .
Another case of a stunning, statuesque lady dressed in a spectacular ensemble= the best combo one can think about.
Sometimes I wonder why (and I might figure out the answer) some women are so judgemental toward other women's figures.
ReplyDeleteI would be in a position to be overly critical myself given my look but I am pretty tolerant instead.
Isn't it paradoxical?
