Queen Sonja of Norway and Princess Astrid attended the opening of the exhibition “Threads in Time – From the National Tapestries to the Royal Tapestry” at the Queen Sonja Art Stable in Oslo. The tapestries are displayed alongside Gerhard Munthe’s original designs, specially loaned by the Norwegian School of Economics in Bergen and the Trondheim Art Museum.
The exhibition Threads in Time presents a selection of tapestries from the Royal Collections spanning the revival of tapestry weaving in Norway in the 1890s to the years following the Second World War. It features woven works by leading Norwegian artists and craftspeople, shaped by national handicraft traditions and the use of local wool and plant-based dyes.
These monumental works, woven under the direction of Frida Hansen after designs by Gerhard Munthe, were awarded a gold medal at the 1900 Paris World’s Fair. For many years, the National Tapestries hung in the Palace’s upper vestibule as a national symbol but were later removed to ensure their preservation for future generations. Several of the tapestries are ordinarily part of private interiors and are being displayed publicly for the very first time.

The Queen and Princess Astrid look adorable but the tapestries! WOW! What a fabulous exibition. Love the Queens jacket and brooch. Wish we could see pooches face! :)
ReplyDeleteBoth ladies look so nicely dressed. They appear to have a very close friendship enjoying a fabulous exhibit. The queens jacket has a nice turn on the lapel.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely jacket the Queen is wearing ... right to my huge taste for little feminine collarless jackets. The turn on the lapel goes so well with her top. And everything goes so well with her for royals unusual taste for modern jewellery. Those necklaces are fabulous. Sonja mixes traditional elegance with just that bit of extravagance ... masterfully done. Astrid is a ray of sunshine, I hope she feels accordingly. The tapestries, the colour harmony - adorable.
ReplyDeleteNice to see Q Sonja and Pss Astrid together at an event. Both RL look great.

After looking closer at the 'brooch', i think it is woven/stiched into/onto the material of the jacket.

ReplyDeleteHow lovely to see the Royal ladies at this event. They both look wonderful, how beautiful Princess Astrid looks. Love the gorgeous jacket the Queen is wearing, this is very attractive.
ReplyDeleteThe tapestries are beautiful, stunning.
ReplyDeleteThe jacket worn by Queen Sonja is elegant. The 'brooch' is indeed @ 23:04 woven into the fabric of the jacket. I think it is more or less similar to designers jewelry. I love the last picture of the wall carpets. The drawings remind me of the art deco period.
