On February 18, 2026, Queen Máxima of the Netherlands attended the opening of the new theatre of KamaK in Hengelo. KamaK is a professional theatre company whose actors have intellectual disabilities. Each year, several productions are developed and performed with the support of a team of theatre makers, music teachers, and numerous volunteers.

Following the official opening ceremony, KamaK’s actors performed several scenes from their current production, “The Tulip.” The play tells the story of a tulip that is driven away and sets out in search of a new place. The story symbolizes the journey KamaK has undertaken in establishing its new theatre. After the performance, Queen Máxima spoke with actors, staff members, and volunteers in the workshop.

She was born to do this job ... I don't even mind if she - at least partly - acts, because if she does, then she does it extremely well. And this is why it is secondary for me what she is wearing, I love to look at her. - But this little confession aside, I love this quirky ensemble on her and though I don't love it, at least I don't mind the hat keeping her hair out of the way. This is one of the few cases where an overall pattern does not overwhelm anything else, because it is so delicate. Dark blue and gold work so well together.

Lovely 19:08! I welcome back an extravagant Max outfit after a long pause! The theatre must have been thrilled with her attendance and the gorgeous vibrant outfit.

Well said. But her enthusiastic attitude toward this group is Maxima’s best accessory!!

  3. Generally don't love this outfit when it comes up in the rotation but it seems just right for a theatrical setting. Bold and bright and happy.

  4. This outfit is well put together, gorgeous colors top and skirt working in well with each other. The flecks of gold within the structure of the blue skirt looks wonderful, linking the color of her blouse perfectly. The blue clutch was a good choice. Her hat color I love. The earrings are beautiful, gorgeous large blue stone, wondering if it is Sapphire?

What an outdated set, no longer up to date and even worse the swimming cap.

6:37, oops, sorta glad you weren’t my teacher; feels like you’d look for the worst in me not all the good?! In this case Maxima is attending a theatre for intellectually disabled people and has worn something shiny and theatrical to honour them… can you love that aspect of it?

@Anon 06:37 what is not "up to date" about this outfit, please explain (if you can). I think your intention was to let out fashion-unrelated negativity towards the wearer.

Outdated in what manner? The fit is good, the fabric appropriate for the occasion, colours are relatively neutral. Fashion is as varied as the royals, at least she re wears clothes and can still fit them.

@06.37 - you are so right. The materials are rich but the style is so dated. At least the cap hides the awful hair.

  7. Belle harmonie de couleurs mais je n’aime pas du tout sa coiffe ; à mon avis, un bandeau/serre-tête plus léger aurait mieux convenu - Ses boucles d’oreilles sont composées de lapis lazuli ?

This is neither up to date nor out of date, but rather a fancy outfit designed to be stunning in fabric, fit and design. It can’t really go in or out of fashion when it is unique. You can choose not to like it.

Another Natan fail, specially the awful hat. It would look better without it (if she would ever have her hair styled.

      Jeepers 6:35. You’re not a fan I see.

Yes it’s Natan, but I think Maxima looks spectacular. My favourite thing however is that she has dressed to the nines in honour of a theatre for intellectually handicapped people. I imagine their joy in having their queen arrive to honour them, dressed in something glamourous and theatrical.

Hoge hakken zijn helemaal uit, zo vrouwonvriendelijk om jezelf zo te pijnigen.
Maar het verhuld natuurlijk wel dikke kuiten.
