On January 29, 2026, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden attended a gala dinner held in support of the Vasa Museum’s Support Vasa project at the Vasa Museum in Stockholm. The "Support Vasa" project aims to ensure the long-term preservation of the ship Vasa. The support cradle on which Vasa has rested since its salvage in 1961 needs to be replaced, as it no longer supports the ship optimally.

The dinner began with a presentation to the Royal Couple on the work involved in developing the new support structure. During the evening, music was performed by Stockholms Studentsångare, Lilla Akademien, Lena Willemark, and Lisa Nilsson. The master of ceremonies was Robert Fux.

The Support Vasa project represents the greatest challenge since the ship’s salvage in 1961. The goal is for the new support structure to be in place by 2028, when the ship Vasa marks its 400th anniversary. The new support system is a complex, advanced, and costly project, and the Vasa Museum requires financial support to complete it. His Majesty the King is the patron of the Vasa Museum’s Support Vasa project.
