Italian President Sergio Mattarella is making a two-day State Visit to Belgium, accompanied by his daughter, Laura Mattarella. On the evening of October 20, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde hosted a State Banquet at the Castle of Laeken in honor of President Sergio Mattarella and Laura Mattarella. Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz were also present at the banquet. Queen Mathilde wore her Laurel Wreath Tiara and Diamond Fringe Earrings.
All three ladies look lovely in their respective styles and choice of gowns and colours. I love the jewelled encrusted top of Mathilde's gown; a narrower skirt would have also looked nice. Ms. Mattarella looks elegant in simple black.

In honor of the Italian president and his daughter Queen Mathilde wore again a gala dress made by Armani Privé in 2019. She is also wearing this dress on official state portrets. Her hair is again done very beautifully.
ReplyDeletePrincess Astrid and Prince Lorenz are also present at this state banquet, Prince Lorenz full name is Lorenz von Habsburg-Este, the Italian branch of the Habsburg family. Princess Astrid is wearing a beautiful red dress of which the designer is unknown. She doesn't wear a tiara nor a purple sash, I wonder why. She does wear a pair of diamond earrings but impossible to see how they look due to the distance on the picture. Laura Matarella wears a very distinguished black dress and her hair looks much better than during the day. I like the flower decorations on the table and in the dining room.
00:45 thank you for this interesting read. The purple sash is the Order of Leopold from Belgium, and Astrid appears to have been bestowed the honour so it is a mystery! Maybe she confused dress codes because as you say she is also without tiara. Her dress looks wonderful but unfortunately the photo published caught her in an instant she was not looking happy. Re Lorenzo, I tried to read about the royal house of which he is Arch Duke… such intricate history and it’s amazing to think how many individual royal lines used to exist and how they no longer do (although of course we have many examples of current families across Europe trying to hold their titles when they have been firmly abolished).
DeleteAstrid's dress is the Safiyaa Affiyah Long Dress in lacquer red . Very becoming on her.

DeletePrince Lorenz is like you said Arch Duke of Austria. Princess Astrid is Arch Duchess of Austria by marriage. None of them are using these titles. Princess Astrid has a beautiful Habsburg tiara which she wore on several occasions in the past. As a Belgian I know that the purple sash is the order of King Leopold I of the Belgians (not of Belgium). King Philippe is also king of the Belgians. It is written like that in the constitution when Leopold I became king in 1831. Prince Lorenz received the order of Leopold I when he got married to Princess Astrid.

DeleteThx for letting us know the name of the designer of Princess Astrid's red dress. If it is Safiyaa it is always beautiful. Queen Mathilde and CP Elisabeth both have Safiyaa dresses which are wonderful too. For me they may buy other ones by the same designer.
I think Queen Mathilde looks very pretty at tonight's gala banquet. She's worn this gown before at a state banquet in Luxembourg and for her husband's 10th anniversary ascension portraits back in 2023. The glittery top matches perfectly with the her laurel wreath tiara.
ReplyDeleteMs. Mattarella looks very elegant as well.
Glad to see Prince Lorenz and Princess Astrid were to attend. I do wonder why the princess didn't wear a tiara.
Everyone looks lovely. I am surprised of the very nice red gown of Pss Astrid.

I like the gowns worn by all three ladies but Queen Mathilde is simply superb. The President’s daughter looks so much better in this simple gown. While her dress is lovely, Princess Astrid looks tired and drawn. I hope she is well.
ReplyDeleteShe may be still a bit tired from her economic mission to the USA 14 days ago.
DeleteMagnifique robe pour Mathilde dont la couleur lui va merveilleusement bien.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful both ladies look. I wander if the dress of the President's daughter is all black. If you take a closer look at photo 3 it seems that the top is velvet black and the skirt of a kind of lurex looks dark blue.
ReplyDeleteAnonyme 06 : 24, je pense aussi que la partie jupe est bleu nuit. Paloma.
DeleteThe Presidents daughter Laura looks beautiful, her gown is gorgeous, suit's her well. The Queen looks superb. Her gown is beautiful. Love her choice of jewels, tiara, especially the diamond earrings, stunning.
ReplyDeleteAgree, what a wonderful tiara and not over the top towards the guests.
DeleteTout est parfait chez la fille du Président ; c’est souvent qu’elle sait m’étonner jusque dans le choix de ses bijoux ?!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dress on QM, but it clashes with the sash. It is something which often happens to royal ladies and rather spoils the effect, IMHO.
ReplyDeleteThe dress was made to wear with the purple sash on state portraits. Since she must wear the Italian sash it is normal that the colors don't match. The same problem for King Philippe who is wearing his gala uniform which has purple details around the buttons of his jacket and on his pants.
DeleteNon sarebbe dovuta essere presente anche la principessa Elisabetta?
ReplyDeleteQueen Mathilde is just breathtaking, what a glorious couple of exquisite sartorial choices ( welcome reception plus banquet).
ReplyDeleteMs.Mattarella is so lovely, seemingly clean cut lines, no fuss but a great, subtle selection of haute couture excellances.
What I can't but notice is the absolutely warm and engaging way in which the Belgian Royal Family welcomed and entertained President Mattarella and his daughter throughout their visit.
I know I am partial, but I get the impression that President Mattarella is rightly held in very high esteem (almost a sort of respectul affection, I dare say) by the Belgian Royal Family in particular.
Italian history has strong ties with Belge for a number of reasons and also Queen Paola's Italian roots play a significant part in how Italians are perceived and accepted.
Laura must be so proud of her father and viceversa.
Well done, thank you all to the Belgian Royal Family!!👍👏👏👏
