The Dutch royal family is in Greece for their summer holiday. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima are vacationing with their daughters at their residence in Kranidi, a seaside town in the Peloponnese. Queen Máxima, her daughters Princess Alexia and Princess Ariane, visited the Saint Nicholas Orthodox Church in Spetses. Spetses is an island in Attica, Greece. A photo, published on the account of Greek priest Grigorios Nanakoudis, shows Queen Máxima, Princess Alexia, and Princess Ariane together with the priest.
King Felipe, Queen Letizia, and their daughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia, are also currently in Greece. It is believed that King Felipe and Queen Letizia are staying at the summer residence of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima in the Peloponnese region. During the church visit, Queen Máxima wore a striped maxi skirt from Zeus + Dione’s 2017 Resort collection, a Greece-based fashion brand.
This skirt does n't fit for Maxima, it makes her look big. The princesses look good.

DeleteWhat do you mean by "big"? She is neither small nor nor thin, she has a beautiful - I'd say: perfect - feminine body. Why on earth should this wonderful woman try to look smaller or thinner than she is, for example by wearing a broad tight belt (like she often does) to pronounce her waist on a hot summer day in Greece? Of course you are free to not like her outfit, but - big?

DeleteNice to see this unofficial photo. They all look delightfully summery. They can wear whatever they want during these days, with less emphasis on how they look - they're on vacation after all. They're not trying to impress anyone. I know that no official photos (meaning from the royal house or paparazzi) are allowed during their vacation time, but it would be fun to see a casual group photo of them enjoying time together with the Spanish royal family.

No official photos are allowed but every year one or two photos of their stay in Greece are reaching the media. I do not think that there will be a photo of the Spanish royals together with the Dutch royals in Greece. Until know it has not been confirmed officially that they are spending time together during their holidays. Fashion wise : they are dressed in a more or less Greek style, except Princess Ariane who is wearing a white blouse and printed wide legs pants. Every year Queen Maxima is buying at the Greek boutiques clothes, fantasy jewelry, objects to decorate the house or to give away as a present.
Delete@Anon 06:57 Yes, I recall last year someone posted a photo of Maxima and King WA shopping in a local craft market in Greece. They were both dressed very casually and they looked just like regular tourists. If you didn't know who they were, you wouldn't look twice. It's good that they can enjoy this kind of anonymity and just be regular people. It shows that they are very down to earth.

Not too much fantasy please. Officially it has not been confirmed that they are staying together in WA and Maxima's villa. King WA and Queen Maxima also have a guest house next to their villa. Maybe the Spanish royals are staying there and can do what ever they want without disturbing each other. King Felipe being Princess Amalia's godfather, I can imaginge they are seeing each other now and then in private.

ReplyDeleteYes, Maxima's bold stripes are a huge statement -- not to mention the 2 burnished armills, which are absolutely massive -- but I must agree that Maxima looks just lovely in this outfit. My only quibble would be the chunky platform sandals - daintier sandals would be perfection. Lyra
DeleteAbout the sandals. Maybe the sandals are chunky but in the small streets and on the uneven stones these sandals are a good idea. It is not the first time she is on vacation there. She'll know what to wear not to have injured feet in the evening.

ReplyDeleteFrom where are you, anon at 08:02? August is a very popular vacation month in Europe and it is the main vacation month in many European countries. Even in the northern countries it's still very warm in August.

DeleteThe Summer holidays of the Dutch RF starts after the photo shoot at the beginning of July (not always on the same date). Usually they were coming back each year by the end of August and at least by September 1st because of the reopening of the schools. Now that the princesses are doing all 3 higher education I wouldn't know when they will come back. About the other holidays like Christmas, Carnival (snow vacation in Lech - Austria with the family of king WA), Eastern, ..... and the trips to Argentina to see Queen Maxima's family which is normal, I wouldn't know how much weeks of vacation they have per year. Now that the 3 daughters are not young children any more the number of holidays might not stay the same every year.

DeleteGenerally spoken, in most European countries people can take their holidays when they want. Unless certain sectors like the building sectors and factories which are closing their doors during 3 weeks - 1 month in the Summer. People who are working in the touristic sector themselves cannot always take their holidays in the Summer. In the hospitals i.e. the nurses, doctors, surgeons,.... have to follow a planning that they are not all together at the same time on holiday. Public transportation like plains, trains, metro, busses,... have also a planning during the summer holidays. It is simple everybody now-a-days has a certain number of vacation days per year. Once you have taken all the vacation days you can have during a year, you must wait until the next year to receive a new number of vacation days. Depending on the job you have, it is of course not the same system for every one. Saying that in Southern Europe everybody has vaction in the month of August is not quite correct. It is true that in the month of August the Southern part of Europe's is having their Official vacation, which does not mean that everybody is forced to take their own vacation too.
8.02 where are you from with this belief that all people are on the same schedule/season as you?!?! USA possibly?… The world has 8+ billion people, all doing different things - many of course without the possibility to ever take holiday. June, July, August is summer time in Europe, with most school holidays falling in July-August period.
DeleteThese are some very nice pictures of Maxima and her daughters. However, I'm not sure if sleeveless tops are appropriate for a Greek Orthodox church. Visitors often have a different perspective to locals.

DeleteFrom what I can read in the introductory part, it was the priest who asked for a photo. If they were not dressed like they should, he would not have asked for a photo. He must also be used to tourists with bare arms. Probably in the Greek Orthodox church it is like in the Catholic church. Every visitor is welcome as long as they are decent. I do not see anything that is not decent on the royal ladies. Queen Maxima as a catholic and as an habitant during several weeks a year (it is probably not the first time that she is visiting a Greek Orthodox church) knows what she can wear when visiting a church.
