On July 1, 2025, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden, along with King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark, attended the 25th anniversary celebration of the Øresund Bridge in Malmo. As part of the occasion, the Swedish royal couple met their Danish counterparts on the Swedish side of the bridge. The bridge, part of the Øresund Link, connects the road and rail networks of the Scandinavian Peninsula with those of Central and Western Europe.
At the inauguration on July 1, 2000, the Swedish and Danish royal couples at the time met on Peberholm. Earlier, in August 1999, when the final section of the bridge was installed, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and then-Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark met on the bridge.
The Øresund Bridge, part of the Øresund Link, connects the road and rail networks of the Scandinavian Peninsula with those of Central and Western Europe. Construction began in 1995, and the bridge officially opened to traffic on July 1, 2000. It received the 2002 IABSE Outstanding Structure Award.
The Øresund Bridge is another spectacular and imposing cable- stayed structure connecting Copenhagen with Malmo.
ReplyDeleteQueen Mary is flawlessly elegant and professional in her total apricot coloroured ensemble.
Splendid updo and makeup too.
Q.Silvia looks equally lovely.
She looks beautiful but the eye make-up is very dark and heavy for a daytime event imo
Delete15.24. As always, Q M has to much make-up!
DeleteIt's a pity heavy make-up makes her older.
DeleteIn summertime most people have a suntanned skin. Just show it more of and take the paint to a absolut minimum!
@ 18;28
DeleteAnd, of course, you expect Queen Mary to get a sun tanned skin in Copenhagen or elsewhere in Denmark?😅
"Summertime"?
"Most people"...where, exactly?
Yes, a short and mild summer is all you find there, I'd say.(though occasional heat peaks may occur).
If you view other shorts and videos, you can notice that she has no heavy makeup.
I tend to think that this ceremony wasn't held in the morning but probably (early) in the afternoon , as the two Queens do not wear hats like Margrethe and Silvia did at the inauguration in 2000.
If Mary had followed your advice re: "Just tanned and no makeup", her face would have come out wash out in the pics.
The sun you see in these pics is in no way similar to that you can experience at southern latitudes.
Of course, strong gushes of wind are the order of the day, especially in the area this bridge is located in.
You only need to look at a map.
Q.Mary wore her sunglasses almost all the time when on the bridge.
Mary’s outfit is a pretty color and she looks great but agree that her make up is too heavy and pasty for daytime. Sylvia looks terrific and I love her headband.
Delete@20:47 Smart girl I never said no make-up but take it to a minimum. I'm a aesthetician by training and we learned different types of make-up applying.
DeleteIn this time when the light is bright you need just the minimum. Don't make it theatrical I mean the sun gives you a sparkle embrace it!
Use soft colours on the cheeks, lips like abricot or cherry colors.
She could do some mascara.
In every action you have to think does it enhance the beauty or not?
I didn't say no make-up!
DeleteYou are a beautician/ makeup artist, my friend??
DeleteI do apologize.
You should know, then, that cherry colours are not that soft , even when they are professionally blended out.
And are you aware that all royal events are scheduled a number of months in advance and weather conditions are unknown till the very last hour before performing those institutional engagements?
Do you realize that the weather in the Scandi countries is of the continental type, so that you can shift from a sunny day to a drizzly one in the twinkling of an eye?
How could Mary or her makeup artist could have known how the weather would turn out in advance?
Should Mary have removed her makeup or leave It to a minimun publicly and let the" bright light" /the sun kiss her face once she had arrived at the Øresund Bridge?
I do not follow your odd logic, sorry

You can't help I'm so sorry.
DeleteEach his own profession.
P.S. Wave and say hi to the birds in the sky.
P. Do you use make-up?
DeleteP. You got frustrated because I mentioned that she is looking older because of the heavy make-up.
DeleteI'm jumping in here--I don't think her makeup looks heavy or makes her look older. It's true that I don't typically pay much attention to comments about makeup because the comments here tend to run to a more conservative view. Other factors are not taken into consideration when these comments are made. Makeup is not always applied for photos, but because a hat may be shading the eyes, or the event may be in a very large crowd, making it more necessary to emphasize the facial features to be seen from a distance. Do we know if there was an evening event right after this? If so, that could have something to do with it as well.
DeleteMary looks fantastic, and we can rely on her to look so for every public appearance. I would have liked the outfit even more with a contrasting blouse colour: a white scoop neck tshirt, a floral blouse, etc. I love her hair up and as that bridge is normally very windy (there’s a massive wind energy farm in the water just off to the side) hair up was very wise. - Mary
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about a different shirt. She wears a lot of higher necked blouses and dresses. I would have liked seeing something a little lower for the summer. White would have been a nice contrast to the suit.
DeleteExactly my thoughts. Lovely suit but needs a contrasting top. Her hair is gorgeous.

DeleteIt seems obvious you do not have a clue about summer weather in the Scandi countries and specifically in the place this ceremony was held.
Additionally, you seem like you are contraddicting yourself.
If Q.Mary had worn any sort of lower neckline, you would have blamed her for being too daring and revealing.
So , now Mary is supposed to wear summer tops or clothes in such windy and most probably cool temperatures?
She is not basking in the sun somewhere in the Maldives, trust me!
P the original. I lived in southern Sweden for 10 years and took this bridge 40 times a year. I do know very well what we can wear in summer. Sometimes you act as all knowing, instead of just sharing your opinions (which I normally really enjoy!). You can allow me to be right sometimes too! - Anon 14:48.
DeleteP. and Anon 20:56 Ahhh, I am confused. I am the one who wrote the 14:48 comment, not 16:07. Maybe I am misreading?
DeleteThank you for your comment, 16:07. I agree with you.
To P., You are the one with no clue here, respectfully. I don't think I have ever said a neckline is too low when commenting here. Most recently on this subject, I commented about the neckline of Letizia's teal CH dress at 17:39. You have made this type of mistake before, one other time accusing me of a comment I didn't make. This time you are assuming something that is not true. I am not a huge fan of high necklines, which Mary has been favoring a lot. I am the opposite of a prude. I don't see anything wrong with a royal showing some skin. We agree often and I enjoy your commentary, but you are wrong this time. I merely liked the idea of Mary wearing a different blouse, something along the lines of what Princess Madeleine would wear, who is also a Scandinavian royal.
Is Frederik crying?
ReplyDeleteWe don't know. But it looks as if Frederik is very touched. However, we don't know what the guests could see on stage at that moment. It's quite possible that they were looking back and remembering that this bridge was a historic milestone. His father, Prince Henrik, was also present at the opening. The year 2000, i.e. the year of the opening, is also significant in his own life. This is because Frederik was at the Sydney Olympics. Today, as King and Queen, he and Mary are meeting the Swedish couple who were present at the opening ceremony.
DeleteYes, he is so thrilled..you know...
DeleteHe has never seem a bridge before😁
Since it is very windy there, maybe his eyes are fragile and don't support so much wind. I know people who are wearing glasses against the wind. It protects the eyes a little bit.
DeleteI thought the same. Perhaps he was overwhelmed by the speech or the pictures of former times??
DeleteElégantes toutes les deux, chacune dans son style même si je préfère la couleur saumonée de la tenue de Mary !
ReplyDeleteSylvia looks fresh, energetic and sporty with her white blazer blazer, chain shoulder bag, neat earrings and white millinery headband - quite the Chanel vibe! in contrast, Mary's peach suit is a pretty colour; but a non-matching shirt would have been better. The floral hairpiece, formal earrings and frilly neckline seem somewhat dressy for an event such as this. Lyra.
ReplyDeleteWho is Sylvia?
DeleteThe queens name is Silvia.
DeleteWhy the petty comments? You know who she meant.
DeleteGreat look for Mary, elegant pantsuit, beautiful colour, elegant hairstyle.
ReplyDeleteMary looks stunning
ReplyDeleteYes, she does!
DeleteI love the Summer color of QM trouser suit, but I think maybe a cream blouce might have been a better option. It’s a lot of one block color,it’s difficult to see where one item starts and another ends. QM hair and make up are lovely.
ReplyDeleteQS is such an elegant and graceful woman. This navy and white ensemble is perfect for the event.
Lowri.
The Öresundsbridge is very impressive!
ReplyDeleteBelle veste en tweed blanc pour la reine Silvia, c'est chic. Paloma.
ReplyDeleteMary is totally on point, and she looks great.
ReplyDeleteAs for variations on her outfit, I'd have liked to see a deep aubergine silk blouse, , similar to the colour of Fred's tie, with a V-neck and buttons, and lapels that overhang the jacket collar. But she looks great as is.

Drottning Silvia gick utan sin käpp, det var ju positivt!
ReplyDeleteJavisst, nu är det 4 månader sedan operationen. Jag har gjort samma på båda fötterna och jag hade ingen käpp alls efter kryckorna.

DeleteHow nice to meet for the 25th Anniversary of the bridge. This is a fantastic look from there. Mary looks stunning. Silvia looks good too.

This apricot pantsuit looks really good, fits well, love the design. Mary wore this before with a cream/white blouse and I prefer the this as opposed to the all one color, regardless she looks beautiful, I love her up style hair.
ReplyDeleteHello to all those replying to me.
ReplyDeleteSo, It seems there are at least two of us or more having commuted/ still commuting on the Oresund Bridge, great!
Oh yes, I have got a pletora of clues about Scandi countries, including weather conditions , where I currently live due to my job and for a part of the week!
I frankly do not care much about others' jobs or sartorial preferences, to be honest.
I sometimes pop in on this fashion blog given I have so little time left in between my hectic days.
So, if I really was mistaken , I apologize.
Every other ironic remark I gladly send back to some comments' authors here.
It is not the first time strange comments are made on this platform and it Is so esay to get misled .
I am no professional makeup artist or a all knowing but I am a huge fan and consumer of makeup and skincare products I apply on a daily basis.
It takes me a lot more than some supposedly aging makeup to get me frustrated.
Everyone can see in the pics portrayed on the blog what pleases them the most, of course.
On my part, I'll be most pleased if we could enjoy our comments as per usual in the future and leave birds and smart girls in the places where they belong.
Such misunderstandings could be easily avoided by signing our commentaries with our nicknames like I already do, instead of writing anonimously.
It could be a practical device to detect one another without all these roundabouts.
Respectfully ,
