The King and Queen of the Netherlands undertook a two-day state visit to the Czech Republic at the invitation of President Petr Pavel. However, due to the political situation back home, King Willem-Alexander returned to the Netherlands after the first day. Queen Máxima continued with the second day of the visit alone, as originally scheduled.
On the final evening of the state visit, Queen Máxima hosted a performance by the Dutch National Ballet at the Estates Theatre in Prague. The event was a gesture of appreciation to Czech President Petr Pavel and his wife Eva Pavlova for their warm hospitality. For the occasion, the Queen wore a Valentino gown she first debuted in 2006.
Queen Maxima looks phenomenal . I love her hair make up. The dress that she’s had in her closet for nearly 20yrs looks sensational.
ReplyDeleteLowri.
Totally agree. Awesome hairstyle.
DeleteAgree. She looks stunning. Another candidate for outfit of the year for Maxima.

Maxima looks fantastic, great, elegant, cannot be topped. She is Europe's most beautiful Queen, sometimes also the most extravagant. And I love her hairstyle, her jewelry etc.. Great, intelligent, beautiful lady.
DeleteLovely Hair....wow!
ReplyDeleteFantastic appearance by the Queen! MR
ReplyDeleteQ. Maxima looks outstanding and the fact its near 20 years old, sensational. The gown suits her well, with her height she wears this gown perfectly. Her choice of jewels, are gorgeous, the diamond earrings, oh, the sparkle! Her hair looks beautiful, up style suits her so well. Love the color of her small clutch.
ReplyDeleteGosh, all these old re-wears from the depths of her closet - and they still look fabulous on her! This is a testimony to good fashion cut and design that survives the decades, and to Maxima for being able to fit into them after almost 20 years AND look great. This is a pretty spring evening gown, light and airy, with beautiful pastel colours. The tiered ruffles are a bit dated for sure, but I'm willing to ignore that for the fact that she re-wore something almost 20 years old and still make it, and herself, look fab. Well done.

Hi Anon 9 : 13 .
DeleteAs nearly always I agree with everything that you have said.
I would just add that it's impressive that any woman can
fit in to a 20 years old dress after three pregnancies.
Mary does likewise.Cheers Cate.
Thanks Anon 13:16, and yes, I agree with you that it is an added compliment to Maxima to pull this off after three kids. Her life is a bit different from the average woman raising three kids to be sure, but still...

Maxima's hair stylist has done a phenomenal job this visit.
ReplyDeleteUne vraie reine - quel port d'arme! Lorraine (Rose)
ReplyDeleteVous avez tout à fait raison: une vraie reine!
DeleteThe queen looks lovely, not sure what the first lady is wearing, but it looks like a rather heavy fabric, with the button front. What trooper finishing the visit on her own.
ReplyDeleteReally?
DeleteSensational. That gown has a beautiful and flattering silhouette, one we seldom see on Maxima. She looks stunning. — Jane
ReplyDeleteAt least this time he did not wear the tiara which, in my opinion, is now out of date. Irene
ReplyDeleteIrene, you've referred to "he", but I'm not sure which man? I think tiaras have been out for men for a long time, but they're certainly still "in" for royals with jewellery vaults and I love to see them.
DeleteAnon8:39 don’t you recognize a typing mistake, obviously meant she
Deletedress a bit dated but beautiful, she apparently has different wigs now, this variant is too much.
ReplyDeleteWhat an ordinary remark. It is none of our business if wig or hairstyle. Our business is if she looks good in anyone's personal opinion or not. Have a little decency please.
DeleteThis is not a wig but a hair piece which is attached to her own hair at the back of her head. She has different hair pieces, so what ? At least the hair police cannot say she didn't comb (or even washed) her hair.
DeleteYou clearly can't see the difference between a wig and a hair piece, which most people know.
DeleteJust out of curiosity: how Is you hair styled?
Please, be sincere.
Thank you.
Bah.
Wonderful Q M!
ReplyDeleteMaxima looks wonderful from head to toe. But what a pity that the Czech first lady made so little effort. The ballerinas look more elegant than her.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I have seen a few outfits this state visit where I thought that the first lady was underdressed. Her style is obviously more business like. I also had the impression that she felt a little overwelmed by Maxima.
DeleteMaybe they don't get many royal visits?
Natascha
Queen Maxima looks very elegant and sweet here, an impression I donot have often of her!
ReplyDeleteThe dress is still stunning, great haute couture, and she combined it with a beautifull coiffure .
@Anon 07:33 Maxima most certainly is very grateful and relieved for your condescending and stupid remark (.... an impression I do not have often of her).
DeleteA wonderful look. I don't think this type of dress can be "dated", because I don't think it's ever in or out of fashion, but rather an individual piece which suits the wearer excellently. Having garments that suit the wearer is FAR more important than being "in fashion" which for the most part, doesn't suit most people, unless it's a very neutral styling. Her hairstyle is magnificent.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right. And who amongst us fits into a dress bought nearly 20 years ago? She is outstanding.
DeleteQueen Maxima looks fantastic in the Valentino dress. I like her hair. Her hairdresser did a wonderful job.
ReplyDeleteEven if the queen is taking out of her dressing room an old dress it is still looking good. If you buy quality, you can wear your clothes much longer and saving more money than those who are buying cheap street style every season. In the meantime she is respecting the rules to save the planet.
The first lady's dresses are made by the same designer. One can see he/she made the dresses based on the same drawing, but in another color and with other sleeves and always buttons in the front.
ReplyDeleteBeatiful dress !!!
ReplyDeleteChanceuse Maxima de pouvoir refiler une robe de 20 ans.
ReplyDeleteFroufrou
The first lady must have felt totally overwhelmed fashionwise during this visit. A pity that she was not advised nor styled better. Did she not know who she was up against?….. And I know, women are not competitors etc. blabla, but this was rather painful to watch. Maxima could have toned down a bit of course to meet the first lady halfway, would have been kind, but that is definitely not her style.
ReplyDeleteElisabeth
I'm pretty fed up with the nagging on QM's character. If one can't give structural (negative or positive) comments on the clothing itself, just refrain from commenting instead of being judgemental on a person's character ... a person which one most likely have never met let it be had an in depth converrsation with. Also bear in mind that Czech and Dutch advisors know all about protocols and can search the internet on what to expect. As long as the persons feel comfortable in what they're wearing, I don't see a problem
Delete@Anon 11:34: This is not a competition, pity that you interpret it like this. I am sure Mrs Pavlova is very happy with what she is, without wanting to look like a queen. And Máxima also has no reason to dress like Mrs Pavlova. Different functions, different customs, different women with different tastes - why always measure and compare.
DeleteThe first lady, Mrs. Eva Pavlová, was certainly not overwhelmed! She is a retired lieutenant colonel of the Czech army (she is 60 years old). She is used to wearing a uniform. She has been the first lady for two years and relies mostly on professional stylists. Her outfits are modest, not top of fashion (But for example, on a visit to Luxembourg she shone and was a better dressed than Grand Duchess).
DeleteThe first lady and her husband (a retired general and former chairman of the NATO Military Committee) are used to receiving politicians and conducting serious political negotiations. Visits of kings and queens are a relaxing affair for them in comparison. From a practical point of view, a visit by the Dutch Prime Minister would be a more significant event. This is how the media approaches it and royal visits are mostly in the part where celebrities and culture are discussed,
The Czech Republic was established after the division of Czechoslovakia in 1993 and Czechoslovakia has had a pride republican tradition since 1918. We - Slovaks and Czechs look at royal dynasties with "indulgence" and condescension, certailny not with jelousy . We are very well aware that those beautiful jewels and tiaras belong to the crown and the nation, they are not Maxima's personal property. The Czechs also have crown jewels and jewelry - but they are exhibited in museums (the Czech Kingdom 9th - 16th century, then part of the Habsburg Empire)

DeleteYour comment Is pointlessly scathing.
I wonder why given that you don't know either ladies personally or have you any insight into Mrs Pavlova's life or the Czech Republic.
Do you realize that all the people involved in this official visit can rely on their own staffs as far as the protocol to be followed is concerned?
It is pretty naive to think that Maxima was not kind and chose every detail on her own ( clothes, jewels, schedule, protocol) just to overshadow another lady.
Your perspective is grotesque to say the least and lacks even a modicum of knowledge of the people featured here - be it royals or not- and the backdrop they were interacting in.
You could have spared such baseless assumptions simply by getting some information about the people featured and the host country.
Your comment is the truly painful thing , I can assure you.
It seems you are always thinking that women decide to meet randomly to act as competitors on a ring.
Human relationships work differently or maybe you are only used to measuring/ comparing women and feeling overwhelmed yourself in real life.
Anonymous 15:07 I loved reading what you wrote and learnt from it. Thank you!

Thank you for the recognition (anon 19:06, 20:46).
DeleteI just want to add that as a Slovak I love the Czech Republic, as do all Slovaks. The division of our countries was peaceful, the reason was the desire for independence, but our relations have remained above standard. Our languages are similar, we understand each other, our cultures are closely connected. We consider other nations as friends, but Czechs are "brothers". When I am in the Czech Republic - and that is quite often - I do not feel like I am in a foreign country.
I recommend a visit to Prague - one of the most beautiful places in the world. That is why I go there with students on excursions. All the places you see in the photos with the royal and presidential couple are so much familiar to me.

DeleteThank you for your comment.
One of the most informative and exhaustive posts I have ever read on this board👍
I don't quite understand why I love this dress with all its rows of ruffles. But I love it. Maybe this is how one does ruffles in a way that works (and for somebody who can make it work)? It could be the fact that the gown keeps a slim skirt silhouette in spite of ruffles? She looks gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteToujours une magnifique silhouette ; parfaite avec sa superbe coiffure !
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely smashing from head to toe!!! What a gorgeous gown and stunning earrings. And her hairdo--fabulous! Queen Maxima is magnificent here. The First Lady is wearing a style that is very flattering to her--very simple and probably very comfortable too. I am not a fan of the fabric as seen here--perhaps in person it has some metallic threads to dress it up. In terms of design--I would narrow the belt and retie it to avoid it looking like it just hanging there.
ReplyDeleteJanet
Mrs. Eva Pavlová's dress would look better with a slimmer belt. This one is too wide.
