On June 7, 2025, the Duchess of Edinburgh attended the opening of the 2025 Royal Windsor Flower Show at the York Club, Windsor Great Park. This year’s theme, ‘Patterns in Nature’, is inspired by His Majesty’s book Harmony: A New Way of Looking at Our World. Later during the event, she was joined by King Charles. The Duchess of Edinburgh greeted the King with a curtsey upon his arrival at the Royal Windsor Flower Show.

Sweet look for Sophie with her deep Aubergine coloured (?) blazer.

A me sembra blu molto scuro o nero, comunque un contrasto troppo forte con il bell’abito primaverile. Bene invece il colore delle scarpe che richiama uno dei fiori della stampa, forse il colore della giacca doveva essere questo.

On my screen the blazer looks black or navy.

I like the dress even at this length because it’s more streamlined than many of her midi dresses. It’s also a lively, summery print that complements D. Sophie’s hair and skin tone. I would not have worn a long dark blue velvet(?) blazer with it though. Something shorter in a lighter colour - pale blue, pale yellow, white - would have worked better to my eye. (V.M.)

Nice dress, inevitably too long. Ugly shoes. Lovely Duchess

Look at the other ladies in the photos with the Duchess. - What kind of shoes are they wearing? Are they either espadrilles, sneakers or some kind of flat shoes - something suitable for moving on the grass and uneven surfaces. Look at the pavement Sophie is standing on. That surface is not suitable for ladies to wear pumps, is it?

I like that Sophie - and other members of the British royal family try to "fit in" with the other participants in the event. They are elegant, but at the same time they do not overshadow others - for example, they do not wear hats when they know that the other ladies will not wear hats or - in this case - they choose a summer floral dress because they know that other ladies will be in that style too.

It is an art of being unique and fitting in at the same time, which Sophie and also Catherine, Camilla, Anne have mastered very well.

The blazer appears to be made of velvet - not appropriate for a flower show in the late Spring as a navy or ivory gabardine material would have been.

I was thinking the same a velvet blazer in the spring ? Even if the weather is not very warm, one can always wear a "Damart" (thermal fabric) top under the dress. That is what I have been doing on several occasions this spring. Where I live warmer temperatures has been announced next week until 30°C on Thursday. We'll see.

      @ Stephanie
There is a wide range of shoes which can be worn to walk on grass. If Duchess Sophie's dresses where not so long, she didn't need to wear wedges with high heels. Besides wedges are not very stable. Did you look already at the soles of these shoes, they are very narrow especially the heels. A stable shoe must have a wide sole so that you cannot injure your ankles when you are walking on uneven grounds.
Compared to the other ladies in the photos, the Duchess is dressed relatively better. I would not like to have to take them as an example of how to dress to assist at a flower show. Besides I do not see many flowers. Where are they ? I see a lot of people (farmers ?) who are showing drinks and cakes a.o. which one can buy or taste apparently. It looks more like a fancy fair to me.

  5. The dress looks pretty, but love the deep Navy jacket, good fit and like this style.

I like her dress, nice coulour for her and I like her shoes. The jacket could be left off doe a nicer look. Love the blue jacket on the gentleman beside her.

This somewhat heavy dark suit jacket clashes with Sophie's light summer dress. There are nice jackets (= not this "suit jacket" type, cut differently, made from another fabric and possibly even better harmonizing with the colours of her dress) that can be worn over a lighter summer dress. She does not seem to recognize the difference between a coat that covers most of what is under it vs a jacket worn over a dress, so that it is part of the ensemble, not just an addition for warmth. It's a pity because the dress itself is very pretty.

A very rare no, from me for the Duchess of Edinburgh.

I just Google the Duchess' images in whatever year or time span I want and many photos pop up. Overall, in general, her fashion sense seemed to be better in the early 2000 - 2010. But there are still those mishaps in the pics.

I did g*ggle yesterday too and came to a quite similar conclusion. She follows fashion (e.g. long skirts ...) and buys new clothing. But she used to be much more careful and thoughtful with putting together what she wears. Today it is sometimes in an ad hoc manner and sometimes she ignores basics.

Maybe her preferences changed, which happens to most of us as we age. This would be a practical and good reason for her to be dressed differently today.
