Queen Camilla, the Prince and Princess of Wales, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and the Duchess of Edinburgh

On May 5, 2025, King Charles III, Queen Camilla, the Prince and Princess of Wales, their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Princess Anne, Sir Tim Laurence, and the Duke of Kent attended a military parade in London commemorating the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day.

This event marked the beginning of a series of commemorations held from May 5 to 8, honoring the end of World War II in Europe. The official surrender of Nazi Germany to Allied forces occurred on May 8, 1945. The King and Queen will host a tea party reception for around 50 veterans and members of the Second World War generation in the palace garden.

Camilla looks magnificent and chique in her royal blue coat and hat. Maybe I should have chosen an alternative colour for the shoes eg the colour of her gloves. Kate in her signature bordeaux coat : so very beautiful and elegant. And Sofie also at her best in her summer outfit. One little critical point I really dont like skin coloured stockings for children ( Charlotte). Why not a woolen dark blue maillot)

I don't think Charlotte is wearing stockings. She is probably bare legged, like other girls her age.

She definitely is wearing pantyhose. Bare legs are looking different. I also have the impression that her clothes are a rewear. She is taller now than before and her clothes are looking too short. Maybe she wore the pantyhose because it was not very warm.

    Kate doesn't need hair-extensions!

I thought she wears hair extensions at times. I am wrong in thinking this?

@Anon 20:47 You couldn't be more wrong. She has an abundance of hair.

Maybe she is not wearing hair extensions but when I compare the color of her hair in the front with the color of her hair in the back I see a different color. If they are not hair extensions, she had her own hair colored partly.

The colour of her back hair is older, perhaps from befor her cancer diagnosis, and died. The hair at her front is not died, I think.

  4. J'ai eu beau me creuser les méninges mais je n'arrive à mettre un nom sur l'homme de la première photo qui marche presque à côté du roi Charles ; quelqu'un pourrait peut-être me renseigner ?!

    1. I apologize, my French is horrible. I couldn't ID the man in question, but Getty has a picture of him inside Buckingham Palace at the tea party. Must be a high-ranking officer connected to the Palace.

I would also like to know who that uniformed man is next to King Charles. Anyone know?

@Mrs. C: He is one of King Charles' personal aides. He is very often seen at public events accompanying the King and introducing King Charles to his guests by name, and guiding the King through crowds both within and outside palace events.

The gentleman is the Duke of Kent. The late queen's cousin and a current working royal.

The Princess Royal is the clear winner for me here, followed by the Princess of Wales, then the Queen. Of course princess Charlotte is in her own bracket, as a child - she looks great too.

Is it just me, or has the Duke of Edinburgh suddenly aged a bit, I’m reminded of his late father. However the second photo (with him in profile) reminds me of his later maternal grandfather (king George).

  7. All the royal ladies look good, with the Princess of Wales unsurprisingly leading the pack. Queen Camilla’s royal blue outfit, including the blue shoes is great and her hat is fabulous ( I wish someone would give her a collection of good old fashioned hat pins as she was anxiously hanging on to it as they walked back to the palace.). The Duchess of Edinburgh looks good with a particularly flattering neckline to her dress and the Princess Royal looks grand in uniform.

Is there a bigger tragedy than war? I guess for many today’s event stirred up a lot of emotion. Catherine looks absolutely splendid; I especially like her hair with the hat. Anne looks marvellous and serious in that uniform - does anyone know which uniform it is? Sophie also beautiful. Well, actually everyone looks fantastic.

    1. Anne Princess Royal wears the uniform of a Colonel-in-Chief of the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry (FANY), and this uniform is quite reminiscent of the uniform her mother, QE II, wore on V-Day 80 years ago as a member of the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS). Very similar. Very touching, indeed.

This was in one of the articles about the event.
In honour of her position as Commandant-in-Chief of the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry (Princess Royal’s Volunteer Corps), Anne wore the military uniform with no decorations - the same one her late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, wore for the Buckingham Palace Balcony appearance on VE Day 1945 as a member of the Auxiliary Territorial Services.

All the royal ladies look very well dressed, especially Camilla. But this event today isn't about fashion at all. Instead it is about something far, far greater - bravery and sacrifice - without which, the world might have been a different place today. With gratitude and thanks to all the brave women and men. Lest we forget.

So which events that any royal attends is about fashion. None, we make it about fashion because this is a fashion blog.

I agree with you Anon 9:13. On days like this we focus on history. Fashion is secondary.

Camilla and Catherine look very much true to their typical styles; they both look elegant. Pink is a good color on Sophie, but this outfit is swamping her and the all-over check pattern is not to my taste (although it does somewhat coordinate with the band around her husband’s hat). Anne is looking trim and like a boss in her uniform.

They all look good, I like the back of Catherine's dress and the color.

But the winner for me is clearly Princess Anne. The uniform fits her perfectly and perfectly reflects her character - a sense of duty, dignity, loyalty. And she is already 75 years old! She is a great support for her brother the king, I like how she refused titles for her two children. She has no bodyguards, except when acting on behalf of the royal family and does not whine! (She was the only one from the RF who experienced an attempted kidnapping in her youth). In today's age of demands and wokeism, this is a rare phenomenon. I like her.

Princess Anne is spunky. Even when injured, she gets back up and doesn't wallow! Wears the uniform beautifully and proud. She would have made an outstanding Queen.

Paloma.

I read Princess Anne wore the late Queens uniform that she herself wore on VE Day 1945. That’s history right there.
I thought Pss Catherine looked stunning in this repeat. The color and style works well for her shape.
Princess Charlotte has grown since we saw her at Christmas. What a beautiful young lady she is. She looked lovely in her repeat tartan coat. The whole Wales family looked superb.
Duchesss Sophie stuck to her usual too big too long style. I believe the headband was worn by her daughter during the Jubliee celebrations.
Queen Camilla certainly stood out in her royal blue ensemble, though I’d have preferred a nude shoe as opposed to the blue.
What a day it must have been for the veterans and their families. A lady of reminiscing and heartfelt gratitude for their sacrifices!
    Lowri.
