On May 9, 2025, Princess Anne, accompanied by her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, visited Guernsey to mark the 80th anniversary of the Channel Islands' liberation from German occupation. The visit comes as the Bailiwick concludes a week of celebrations commemorating the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe.
Between 1940 and 1945, the Channel Islands were the only part of the British Isles under German control during World War II. German forces formally surrendered in Guernsey on 9 May, with neighbouring Sark liberated the following day. Princess Anne’s visit included a parade, and meetings with survivors who experienced the occupation firsthand.
La princesse Anne est superbe dans cette tenue blanc cassé que l'on retrouve dans son chapeau jusque dans son sac à mains et chaussures !
ReplyDeleteThats my gal, looks like she enjoyed this assignment, comfy shoes and nice coat, a touch of lipstick, good to go.
ReplyDeleteAnne looks wonderful. I like the way her seafoam green dress is partially visible at the bottom of her coat.

Admiral Laurence appears to have great respect for the monarchy. He always lets the Princess walk a few steps ahead of him (just like Prince Phillip did for the Queen). He is always immaculately groomed. I love Pr. Anne's hat . Nylons could be a shade darker. Handbag needs to be updated = a clutch or small handled handbag would have looked better.
ReplyDeleteVirginia, May I ask you a language question? “Nylons”? Is that still current language where you live? Where I grew up that was normal in the 50s/60s but since then we would say “stockings”. As for her handbag, I think it’s more practical for a practical lady such as Anne to have a long strapped bag so she can put it on her shoulder out of the way, as demonstrated. No doubt it’s beautiful leather and most likely, she’ll use it until it’s worn out! I do love this way of using possessions, rather than owning much too much to confirm to trend.
DeleteI don’t see a problem using the word nylons.
Delete20:54 I wasn’t criticising, but was asking genuinely about word usage. I’m fascinated by the English language and how it travels through time and place. So I was wondering where “nylons” is still current.
DeleteI like her commitment to Duty. We came o long way since the 80 years passed or did, we are really. Lovely coat. It is also a nice surprise to see her husband at this event.

Very elegant hat!
ReplyDeleteThe nearly white coat also very becoming .
The Princess Royal looks splendid. This well made coat, looks great, fits well, love the flair from the waist, plenty of movement, I like this for a change. Her hat looks great, accessories, perfect. She wore this brooch a little while ago, up close its gorgeous, a wonderful size. She has such marvellous work ethic, a great representative of the Monarchy. Much respect to her, she just quietly gets on with the job, little to no fanfare. Admiral Laurence is a great support system to the Princess. It's splendid to see him accompany her on her visits.
ReplyDeleteSuch an elegant summer look from the Princess Royal! I love the cream coat--the fit is perfect and design is wonderful--I really like how the coat opens just below the hips to reveal her dress underneath. The color of her dress is very pretty. Her hat is fabulous--and I really like the jaunty angle. Wonderful to see Sir Tim accompanying her. The very first photo is so pretty!

Princess Anne looks great here. The coat is well fitting and a perfect length and the hat is fab. Well done on a perfect outfit for the occasion
ReplyDeleteWonderful pictures of this admirable Lady!
ReplyDeleteI wonder why she is wearing brown gloves ? If she absolutely must wear gloves in May, she could have worn white ones.
ReplyDeleteThe waistline of Princess Anne's coat is too high.
ReplyDeleteShe is looking well of late. She has such a beautiful smile.
ReplyDeleteNylons, stockings, hose, tights, English is universal, language usage varies from region to region, from country to country. As far as I can tell, all terms are correct.

Thanks! Yes it wasn’t a criticism, it was a wondering! I think Australia may have taken “nylons” both concept and wording from America, but then localised or anglicised the name. I was just wondering about the derivation and change as for me it’s the language of my grandmother. But in no way a criticism - just to learn because I love language. Thanks Virginia!
DeleteAs always, the hardest working royal out for a stroll, on another official engagement with her steadfast husband with her. Anne is beautiful, aging quite well, and as lovely as ever.
