When the newly-independent Greece in the 19th century chose a younger prince from Denmark as their king, he was also given the right to preserve his title "prince of Denmark".This right was given even to his future descendants which includes prince Pavlos with his family. Denmark is still a monarchy and the Greek ex-royals have the titles prince and princess of Denmark. The titles are real, not fake.
      European history is sometimes complicated.

I especially like Marie Chantal’s dress which is lovely for Spring and she wears it well. Her daughter has the perfect figure for the modern dress she’s wearing. The Prince looks quite handsome. MR

  5. Princess Marie-Chantal's dress is certainly "spring" inspired and perfectly tailored. But, in my opinion, it's too busy, especially when compared with Princess Marie-Olympia's sleek golden gown. Both ladies are beautiful, as always. The Prada gown reminds me of the flapper gowns of the 1920s. I love it.

I love both dresses in their own way. Marie-Chantal's has a decidedly modern Boho-Spring vibe, and Maria-Olympia's gold Prada is restrained, shimmering glamour. Most importantly, each wearer has the perfect figure to wear their gown, and they both look great.

Is there an award for cringey posing? Maria-Olympia would win. Her dress is pure Hollywood and yes, it fits her well, but I actually couldn’t stand looking at her after first glance. I actually prefer her Mother’s more domestic looking floral concoction and Marie Chantal’s affect.

Like both dresses though P Marie Chantal’s is a bit. Too patterned for my taste. Maria Olympia would look good in her gown if it weren’t for the weird head tilt thing that celebrities do

Each lady looks lovely in their own way. Marie-Chantal's gown in pretty but a bit too busy; still she wears it well. She is an elegant woman who is know for her style and fashion sense. Maria-Olympia's gown is very much Hollywood red carpet as is her posing. Given she won't be a working royal type of princess I'm guessing her title and royal lineage will be a fame more like celebrity anyway. Its good to see Pavlos and his family out supporting such a worthy charity as The Prince's Trust.

I would like to see more of them here. They are certainly giving us something fresh to look at. For those coming here to see fashion, it is a nice change from the typical "uniforms" we have come to expect from our favorites. Marie-Olympia "poses" the way she does because she is a model. It is always a disappointment to see such snarky comments from the peanut gallery.

New, young (and young-ish), fresh, contemporary.... Some new design styles, some new ideas, and some clothing brands not often patronized by the usual suspects who are most often featured here. Style and fashion is wide and varied.
(PS And yes, Maria Olympia is a model, hence the model pose - which she is used to and does, without even thinking about it. We have two successful models in the family so are used to this as well, without even noticing it any more in family pics.)

    to "Coralie" and others:
Your disgust at the "fake prince" is ridiculous and incomprehensible. Prince Pavlos is the son of the former King of Greece, nephew of the Queen of Denmark, cousin of the King of Spain, so his daughter Maria Olympia is also a princess. It is clear that she will never be Queen, just as Princess Beatrice, Eugenie of the UK, Princess Madeliene of Sweden, many other Dutch princesses, and even the new Princess of Montecito will never be Queens, and neither working royals full time. Are they fake princesses too? Nevertheless, their photos are sometimes published on this blog and you, dear ladies, do not protest against it. So I don't understand why the disagreement with Maria Olympia.
Coralie, be consistent and also protest against the publication of photos of the other "princesses" mentioned here.
PS: I don't like Marie Olympia's pose either. But she looks nice and I haven't heard any scandals about her yet.

Greece abolished their royal family long ago so for this family to hang onto their meaningless titles is ridiculous. The other princesses you mentioned may never be queens but at least they are members of royal families that still exist.

Your comment about the new princess of Montecito is disgusting too.

      Delete
    3. No need to be upset, Stephanie. You have your opinion, I have mine. To me it is about logic: Beatrice, Eugenie, Madeline and the dutch princesses live in an existing monarchy. They are real princesses according to the rules of the monarchy. If the head of that monarchy decides to remove their title (which we have witnessed in Denmark recently), they are no "princesses" any longer. The greek family does not live in a monarchy, since the greek people decided to abolish monarchy quite a long time ago (same in Germany - the former royals here have the right to call themselves a "Graf" or "Fürst", but this is a part of their name - not a title). It's easy: no monarchy, no crown, no title.

      To Coralie:
I'm not upset. Royal families and nobility doesn't matter to me. I am from a country that has been a republic since 1918, when the Habsburg Monarchy collapsed and its conquered nations gained independence. At that time, all noble titles were abolished in our country, so we have neither counts nor dukes, duchess nor princesses. I read this blog for fashion, the knowledge of protocol and dress code is sometimes useful for me on business trips abroad or when I accompany at a reception my husband who works in a high position . Several times I have suggested to the author of the blog that it would be nice if the fashion of women - politicians (there are women presidents, prime ministers, ministers) - was presented here for inspiration. But she decided to write only about royals - her right.

Back to Prince Pavlos: He has more royal ancestry than any of those regularly featured here. (Anonymous explained in detail 2:56) For example, his aunt - Princess Benedikte of Sayn Wiittgestein, widow of a German "prince" and sister of the Danish queen. Author of this blog also already shared photos of her "princess" daughters. So no one ironically said "fake" princesses, because Germany is a republic (also since 1918) and many, many other "German" princes and princesses, because it seems that every German district had a prince. Even a certain duo from California insisted that their children have the title of prince and princess, although the USA has been a republic since 1776. Nor them nobody call fake.
I don't know the descendants of the Greek king at all, but I felt the need to stand up for them.

In European convention royal titles remain in spite of democracy. Pavlos is a Royal Thoroughbred. European Monarchy is his pedigree. Royalty is in Pavlos’s heart, veins, arteries and blood. Pavlos is The Duke of Sparta and a Prince of Denmark.

Although the Greek throne is defunct, Pavlos is still The Custodian of The Greek Monarchy. He is currently de facto King of Greece, his wife Marie-Chantal Queen while their son Constantine “Tino” is now Crown Prince of Greece. Pavlos’s great grandfather was King of Sweden, his grandfather was King of Denmark and his late father, King of Greece - all three Kings were reigning when Pavlos was born in 1967. His mother is Princess of Denmark, Queen of Greece. His paternal Aunt (his Dad’s older sister) is Queen Sofia of Spain, his maternal Aunt (his Mom’s older sister) is Queen Margrethe of Denmark. His paternal first cousin is King of Spain, his maternal first cousin is Crown Prince of Denmark.

King Charles’s father the Duke of Edinburgh was a godfather to Pavlos’s last youngest brother while Queen Elizabeth II and Diana Princess of Wales were both godmothers to his youngest sister. Pavlos’s Dad was godfather to Prince William. King Charles is godfather to Pavlos’s immediate younger brother Prince Nikolai and Pavlos’s only daughter Princess Maria Olympia. Both Pavlos’s first cousins, the Crown Prince of Norway and Prince William are all godfathers to Pavlos’s heir, Tino while the Crown Princesses of Sweden and Norway are both godmothers. Pavlos himself is godfather is several of the younger future monarchs - Christian of Denmark, Ingrid Alexandra of Norway and Estelle of Sweden, etc.

Good luck to him. God bless him.

Monarchy is a cultural thing. Not a natural. Royalty can never be "in somebodys blood, veins and arterias". The somatic cells of a royal are in no way different from a communist, a farmer or whoever.

You are so right, Coralie! "Royal" blood is just the same as the blood flowing in the veins and arteries of any other human being. It isn't special or in any way unique. The only way Pavlos may feel his royal blood is because he was brought up to feel royal.

Although a bit busy I prefer Marie-Chantal's dress to the one her daughter Maria Olympia wears. From a distance the mother looks younger than the daughter whose face looks like it is polished with wax. And then her posing is exaggerated. She should reserve it for the catwalk.

To Coralie & the following Anonymous - this is exhausting. You have missed the point and seem rather bent on disregarding the facts. Usage of the words blood, arteries, veins, etc are hyperbolic expressions which are simply part of English Language and English Literature. Words can be classified as figures of speech - imaginatively and figuratively - not literally.

No offense but since you wish to bombard readers with your opinions and can not seem to peacefully and graciously agree to disagree, then you must know that you simply make an obviously interesting point here. Apparently your understanding of English is equally matched by your limited knowledge of European Royal History. Hopefully one can only hope that you will treat this response to as fair comment. Life is good.

I think what so many of us find 'offensive' about Marie Olympia in general is her posturing and pictures posted on her social media accounts. She may be a princess of a defunct royal house, but she (and some of her brothers) behave like a d-list celebrities. She is a 'model' purely by the accident of birth and seems to have no actual job except to be seen at various events. Were she to engage in charitable causes one would be inclined to not find her so grating.

I just now read the above ( not so friendly ) discussions about royal titles.
In my country nobel titles are inherited, be it baron, count, duke or Prince and I think it is the same for the Greek princes although there is no more a king.
In Germany it is abolished but said in the family surname as someone wrote, and in Denmark the Queen gave her second sons children a different title , as is the prerogative of a monarch: to give and take tiltels.
