Why is this very nice and really very intelligent Amalia always wearing those old fashioned grandmother clothes. She is 18 yrs old. She should have had the youthful outfit of Máxima. Who is advising her?

I beg you to explain what "grandmother clothes" are? Are older women all grandmothers or do all grandmothers wear ugly clothes? Can a grandmother not wear an outfit like Max? Can a young woman not wear a patterned summer dress? If you don't have enough vocabulary to describe what you mean, then do something about it, instead of being disrespectful. (-Ann.)

She is indeed still very young, so give her a break! She is figuring out her own style, which is difficult for any young girl. And for a girl in her position, as a future queen, with all these critics around ready to tear her down, all these opinions to deal with, it is even much more difficult.
Amalia is going through an immensely difficult time, because of criminal threats, upon her life. In The Netherlands she isn't even allowed to leave the house because of the danger placed upon her. I cannot imagine how to deal with that at her age, and in fact, she looks rather depressed here, no wonder. My heart bleeds for her and I hope this trip abroad with her parents will give her some joy and relief.
The way she deals with this horrible situation, how she is still able to remain positive and strong, is absolutely amazing. I
salute her, no matter what she wears.

Agree with both above comments about the unciviliced sunglasses and the non-age adequate clothes of A. To my surprise she looks quite insecure, holding on and shielding behind her mother. Mabel

It is not surprising that she is insecure when she lives with very serious threats to her life and has spent most of her time during the past couple of months at home, because she isn't allowed to go anywhere except university classes. Of course it is difficult to develop self confidence like many other young people do when you can't leave the house, can't socialize with peers, meet new people and develop independence at uni, away from your parents' house... Not to speak of the mental strain and living in fear...
Finally, having strangers in the media and online comment on your clothes and looks probably doesn't aid a 19-year-old girl's confidence.

I like Maxima's outfit, it gives a vibe of energy and fun. There are many times that Amalia and her sisters are "holding on" to their parents during photo shoots. In this situation Amalia has her arm wrapped around her mother and Amalia's hand is visible. It makes for a strange picture. I cannot imagine being exposed like that all the time and I hope they all outgrow their insecurity IF that is what it is.

I wonder if Amalia was a bit worried about her dress blowing up, it would explain some of the body language.

Da sempre in tutte le loro foto si abbracciano o si tengono per mano e, grazie al cielo, il loro protocollo lo permette.
Anche Meghan si aggrappava ad Harry eppure nessuno ha mai parlato di insicurezza.

Dear Commenters, please remember that this is an open blog that anyone may read, including young people. Write as if even Amalia or her mother may read this, and be kind. You can comment on fashion without being derogatory or potentially hurtful. Amalia is just 19.

These words are never used when we see pictures of her “ colleagues” of Amalia of Belgium and Norway, makes me think why?
The choice of the Oranges not to expose their daughters to the press seems to have a negative result: see how at ease and spontaneous other royal children behave when lots of photographers are around. The Dutch do just 2 photoshoots a year. The princesses are ill at ease.

These words are sometimes used about her colleagues, but they have to be used more often where Amalia is concerned, because she gets more negative comments.
Difficult for these young Princesses to dress to everyone's taste. We see Amalia or Leonor dressed for the role of future Queen and people say: they are dressed too old! But then we see Princess Ariane and Infanta Sofia in short skirts like regular teenage girls and people are like: those skirts are too short!!

As for Princess Ingrid Alexandra, she thankfully needs no defense because the only comments she gets here are: gorgeous!! Stunning! What a beauty!
Which she is, but there is no reason to so harshly critique the other Princesses' clothes and bodies. They are all just girls at the end of the day, and one thing is for sure: it is not easy being a teenage girl and you often worry about your clothes and body... No need for the media and people on the internet to add to it!!

  10. This is mainly a fashion blog, the color and fit of the jacket makes Maxima look good and youthful. Amalia dresses older than her age. Maybe they should switch outfits.

Maxima looks fantastic here, love this ensemble, fresh yet classic. If Amalia would have just ditched the jacket, it would have changed her whole look, given it a more youthful feel.

Maxima's pants are too short, heels to high, jacket a tad small, and earrings much too large, which throws everything out of balance. Amalia's dress is too low in the front and too high of a slit on the side for a windy tarmac, which can cause many a mishap.

Please, please, bear in mind that the women of the Dutch royal family have weight problems, I presume genetic. Look at old photos of Queen Beatrix and her sisters before they all went on diets, presumably a painful process. Queen Juliana was not slim but was cleverly dressed. I know a very elegant lady who hardly eats anything just to look normal. It is not easy to dress a young girl under such circumstances.

She is a large young lady and I know that it is difficult for them at that age to be comfortable in their clothes (I know this as my grand daughter was similar in build at that age) so be kind in the words you write as they could affect her self esteem in such a bad way reading your comments🥲
As far as the sunglasses are concerned she may have prescription glasses or be light sensitive. Don’t be so judgemental!
