Queen Elizabeth II hosted a tea party for locals in the ballroom at Sandringham House on the eve of the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne. The tea party was attended by fellow members of the Sandringham Women’s Institute and pensioners living on The Queen's Norfolk estate and their families. Staff and volunteers from local charities Little Discoverers, and West Norfolk Befriending were also present.

Queen Elizabeth traditionally spends the anniversary of her accession to the throne in private at Sandringham, the place where her father King George VI passed away in the early hours of February 6, 1952. The main events for The Queen's Platinum Jubilee will take place in the first days of June.

  1. Même si elle a beaucoup minci, elle est délicieuse dans cette nouvelle robe bleu pâle comportant une bande de petites fleurs blanches ; dommage de ne pas mieux voir la broche qu'elle a sortie de son écrin qui est bien fourni !

Wow! what a legacy! 2 more years she will be the longest serving state monarch, a record hard to follow.

She looks lovely in sky blue. I like how her brooch always tells a story, this one was a gift on her wedding day.

I like the baby blue, the white flower decoration on the dress and the jewelry QE's wearing, but the fitting of the dress unfortunately is very poor. Glad however, the queen's very much enjoying the celebration party.

Maybe you should consider that you cannot fit a dress properly for an old lady with the bone structure that inevitably comes with old age. (-Ann.)

These light blue shades she chooses for her dresses lately are perfect to match her silver hair. This dress is a bit larger too, which is so much better for the Queen and for any woman of 96 years.

Agree P. She is an absolute treasure and role model- and all in heels too (remembering that famous quote regarding Ginger Rogers doing all Fred Astaire did but backwards and in heels:))
This “Wedgwood” dress is so beautifully British with her brooches and the coloring is great- she was very cheeky (in a great way) cutting into the cake at this luncheon.

Let me add my personal ackowlegment for Queen Elizabeth II.
I feel she is The Queen of all and of everybody, regardless of the countries they are from, no matter if they are monarchies or republics.
She is charismatic, her figure has the stature of Prestige and Leadership, which is not just authority.
When the Queen comes up, silence , please, here She is , respect is due to her persona and to her restless sense of duty, to her ability to endure and tangle even the hardest challenges of her life.
I think we all can see that She looks more and more frail.
Well, I sense She is still stainless steel inside,
She has all my admiration for still performing her public duties with that charming smile on her face, despite all the sorrow She has to cope with.
She can't have neither the beauty of youth nor the beauty of middle age maturity.
She is beautiful in the highest sense of the word and what she has inside of her heart still shows and it is a life lesson for all of us.
No matter if or when She has to step back , her life service will shine, indeed the best treasure of all her royal jewels.
She will be also MY QUEEN forever.
    Thank you, Your Majesty.

Thank you, Coralie, Ava and Annie M.
That is exactly what I feel about Queen Elizabeth.
And yes, she truly is the epitome of duty , service, dignity and
      Honour.
Such little words but with a deep meaning for such a grand Lady and Queen.

Sorry, in my previous comment I meant:
      untangle
      She can have neither...

  8. It´s impressive to see her so agile at her age, and while it may be thanks to good genes, or excellent health care afforded to her, it is certainly also thanks to her sense of duty, she´s agile because she has to be.

I have never thought of her as stylish; in fact I think she´s looked rather boring most of her life. Of course she´s always looked impeccable, but that´s not to be confused with stylish. I also don´t think of her as charismatic. The word that comes to mind here is iconic, and it is connected to her role rather than her person. She is the queen with a very much elevated status and is treated accordingly. After 70 years, that title is very much connected to her: due to her very long reign, few people remember any else being the monarch.

She certainly leaves a legacy behind; Being the monarch for 70 years is a legacy in itself, and she certainly had to navigate through numerous turbulences in all those years.

She looks good her blue dress. It is simple and looks fresh, despite not fitting her well (anymore?). She has clearly lost a lot of weigh and looks rather fragile now. It is the first time I saw her with a cane.

The picture capturing her "stabbing" the cake is hilarious, as is the expression on the other lady´s face behind her.

Perspective is everything. I agree that the photo of the 'cake stabbing' looks funny here, but I also watched the 4.5 minute video yesterday of the whole event including about 40 seconds worth of cake cutting, where the Queen was joking about how exactly she should cut the cake when that other lady explained that the cake was positioned that way 'for the benefit of the cameras.' (The Queen responded "Well of course" which I hoped was delicate and appropriate sarcasm, lol.)
The Queen was quite a sport about it and made several attempts at pushing the knife all the way through, given the awkward placement at an angle. Even turning away at one point midway, and then turning back to finish the job.

The location in the castle looks not very cosy. I wouldn't enjoy having tea there. It looks more cosy in our company canteen. A pity. But the Queen looks good. At first I thought she was wearing a piece of Camilla's clothing, or does Kate have a similar coat with appliqués at the waist? Frieda

    1. The Duchess of Cambridge has a gorgeous pale blue coat with white trim. She wore it at the Queen's 90th birthday service. This is a lovely outfit for her Majesty and she certainly seemed to be on very good form on the news clip shown on TV here in UK yesterday.

    Ah...the beautiful Wedgewood dress again.
I loved it when the Queen first wore it a few years ago and I still love it now. However it's obvious that she has lost weight since the last time and so it has a more loose fit now than before.
The soft baby blue and the delicate lacework gives the outfit an elegant style and the Queen looks lovely for her years.

  13. The Queen looks radiant, she is glowing, so happy and engaging. I love Her Majesty's blue dress, it is subtle but elegant. The colour of her dress is very becoming, suits her beautifully, the embroidery is exquisite. These diamond brooches are very pretty, I don't recall seeing them before, the pearl strands, lovely. She is a marvellous woman and outstanding Monarch. The example she has shown throughout her reign, dedication to duty has been faultless. God bless her .

I love Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth dearly ;I attended a luncheon in her honour and we raised a glass to bless, her and wishing her a long life. No Camilla does not get the prize; she hovered around that marriage until it fell apart ;that isn't the best person to be the next Queen.(Tara)

That marriage would have fallen apart without Camilla - they had absolutely zilch in common.

And being Queen (Consort) isn't a prize for good behaviour.

Amazing how people can hold grudges against people they don't even know based on what they read in the media. She is hardworking, dedicated and supportive of her husband - people aren't just made up of their sins, you know. They can a bit more complex.

I do not agree on the comments about Camilla. The truth is she had to step aside from the man she deeply loved and loved her dearly as well....just so he could marry a younger woman who could produce heirs. I have always felt such heartbreak for her, and am overjoyed that she and Charles are so happy now, and will be King and Queen one day. Diana knew this going into a loveless marriage. I never felt sorry for Diana.

Dear Anonymous, I disagree with you. Diana got married at the age of 19 with no experience in every sense of the word. She had to fight against the shadow of a much older and worldy woman who never released obsessed Charles from her grip, as she should have done. Diana had no chance.

    What utter melodramatic hyperbole.

Diana may have been 19 and naive at the time of her marriage but she soon learned to be pretty savvy about playing the media to get over her side. And despite the pain Camilla supposedly caused her she still chose to have affairs with several married or attached men.

They were human beings, they made mistakes... Time moves on, people grow up and Camilla has proven herself a perfectly decent, dedicated and hardworking woman.
