The Prince of Wales and his sister Princess Anne handed out The Queen's Anniversary Prizes for higher and further education in a ceremony at St James's Palace. The Queen's Anniversary Prizes are awarded every two years to universities and colleges whose work has showed excellence, innovation and impact in any field or discipline and will benefit society.
This year, 21 British universities and colleges have been awarded Prizes. The first Queen’s Anniversary Prizes were awarded in 1994, and until today, a total of 296 prizes have been presented to 137 institutions including 83 universities and 54 colleges of further education.

It's good to see the Prince and Princess together. I like Princess Anne's forest green dress but am curious about the placement of the button below the top button. It looks a bit odd to me. What is it? Her pearl necklace with gold clasp is beautiful, and her earrings and shoulder brooch are very nice. She seems quite animated at this event, as does Prince Charles. His suit is okay, but I like his blight blue tie.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that's a button; more like some kind of a badge and likely placed there by the Princess Royal herself, for whatever reason.

ReplyDeleteAs she gets older, I see Anne smiling so much more often in photos. I'm thrilled to see her wear brooches as often as her mother does. Brooches aren't often worn by my generation and I think they are beautiful. This green is a great color for her.

Looks like P. Anne is trying to copy a military uniform with all those golden buttons.
ReplyDeleteShe should look better after her skin. A bit of hydrating day cream would do her face good. I think she is doing her hair herself. I never met an hairdresser who makes such ugly hairdos. Her hair could use a nourishing mask too.
Prince Charles is wearing one of his shapeless suits. He needs to buy some new suits and put the old ones away of give them for charity. On the photos one can see that the fabric is getting really old and used forever and ever.

Btw, even a double row of golden or silver buttons on blazers, coats and dresses is on trend now and she is dressed appropriately for the occasion.
I think she could and should change her hairstyle.

Lovely to see, them both on official duty and enjoying themselves. Its great to see the Prince well out and about, after the latest Covid scare. Bless them both

You can find double line button bespoken dresses by Balmain and Dior, for example.
Then, why creating geographical fashion boundaries?
Fashion collections are international.
This kind of dresses (even evening gowns) are also made by Italian designers as well.
Btw, you can also find a line of golden or silver buttons at the bottom of the sleeves in trendy dresses now.
Took the time to look at the websites of Dior (no golden or silver buttons found), at Balmain's they use indeed more golden or silver buttons in their latest collections but the dresses, jackets, skirts have a totally different shape. I do not see Princess Ann wear this. The trend is copied by a designer who thinks he/she is creating something that is on trend but it is not. The green dress does not fit, the sleeves are to large, the body of the dress rather looks like a duster. Then he/she added a number of metal buttons and thought it was excellent. Sorry I cannot like this dress. P.Ann is younger than I am but I would not want to wear a dress like this even for free. On the contrary dresses made by French, Italian, Spanish designers are pieces you can buy in most countries of the western world, but they remain their own creations.Never saw P.Ann in A. McQueen, E. Wickstead, Bennett. . . .These are good British designers (Cfr. Duchess Catherine) if she wishes to buy in her own country.
DeleteI like the outfit - she has a very good figure - but I do think it's time for a different hairstyle. It's dowdy and outdated and I also think the colour is too dark and monotone.

I just wanted to highlight that a single or double line of buttons on the front and at the bottom of sleeves of dresses are on trend now and you can find them among Dior creations( there is a nice sheer and faux fur gold buttons black dress for example) ,as well as in some British designer collections ( see Stella Mc Cartney...I love her creations!!
Anyway, I think that the Princess' dress is appropriate for this formal ceremony, even though it may look a bit boring as to the colour and yet age appropriate too IMO.
I wonder what brand the Princess' dress is...
