On March 19, 2020, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited the London Ambulance Centre in Croydon to meet staff who have been taking NHS 111 calls from the public, and thank them for the vital work they are doing. The London Ambulance Service takes NHS 111 calls through its control rooms in Croydon and Barking, which have currently been receiving at least five times the usual rate. (The Duchess wore a new wool blend blazer and slim leg trousers by Marks & Spencer.) |
Dss. Kate looks lovely. She looks good in pink. Almost the same suit as Q Letizia of Spain.
ReplyDeleteA different look for Catherine. I like the jacket worn open but the fit of the pants could be better. I wish she wore her hair up. Great color and nice to see Catherine mixing it up.
ReplyDeleteE.B.B.
Totally agree.
DeleteWow, gefällt mir gut. Ein New Look! Schöne Farbe in dieser schlimmen Zeit.
ReplyDeleteI’m extremely annoyed that they are not keeping the recommended distance (2metres/6feet) between them. This is foolhardy and I think it downplays the seriousness of the virus. Plus it places all of them at risk. (V.M.)
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Why can they not be a model??? CH
Delete(V.M.) 1:20 AM
Delete2m, recommanded by WHO ?
Every country has different rules for safety and to take care. And 2m is a 'symbol' to remind: keep distance, be careful, not possible everywhere at work.
The British and Swedish royal families are still doing some duties - The Danish royals has camcelled all, including The Queen's 80th birthday parties medio April.
In Scandinavia e.g.,Denmark and Sweden have completely different rules fighting against Covid-19. In DK only 10 persons are allowed being together at home and outside, Sweden alowed 500 and after skiing paties.

DeleteVery observant comment. In the US decisions are made by the Governors and the President supports and helps with National resources- powers are purposely spread out. As seen in someone from NY's comments below, while hopefully clearly informed in her area of care, she clearly does not comprehend how these situations work in supplying localities. In our area, after a specialist tested positive after returning from oversees and it spread, the Governor cancelled schools just for our county over a week ago and asked people to socially distance. Then a couple of days later all schools in the state were shut down and non-essential businesses. New York's Gov. was later. Those who are needed to go into work take their temperature and try to be careful but many have needed to increase their work hours and the work is more intense.
I have no doubt William and Catherine were advised by the best and were extremely careful as evidence by the video and reporting. If he was still in the Air Ambulance or military, William would be working and may not have had opportunity to remain 1-2 meters away as he and Catherine have here.

People are dying, and here they are, going to a crisis center, no mask or anything, with photos where they stand way less than 2 or even 1 meter, laughing out loud…
ReplyDeleteSo they can't laugh now. Y'all are being ridiculous if you don't like it then oh well stay bitter and grow up. People love to make everything negative smh.
DeleteI think the same, Debra.
DeleteI agree with Davion. Their aim is to show appreciation, encourage etc... and as said by someone here they took special protection measures. If they wanted to show dark faces they could just stay home.
DeleteCatherine's rose colored blazer and trousers are very nice. Her choice of a white shell under the blazer is so much better than the orange worn by the model. Although this is a serious time for all of us, and, perhaps for that reason, she chose not to add jewelry (other than modest earrings) to her appearance, I think a delicate chain with locket would have been very pretty.
ReplyDeleteWell...I love Catherine's outfit and that dusty rose colour of it. The cut is good, it fits well and it's a high street brand too. If anything, I'd have gone with the trouser length just an inch longer, but as can be seen from the model, she is wearing it at the length that was intended. So in that case, nicely done.
ReplyDelete- Anon 9:13
Oh noooo, not pants with those sewn in pleats on the front, how tacky/70's looking and so short, with heels, just did not look right.... Then, for them to visit the center was nice, but they are not the required distance away from others, and laughing talking so close was clearly not in the best interest of any of the people (even if they've been tested and are negative), it does not give a good impression to others.... JT
ReplyDeleteI like the rose colored suit, and its fit. William with his usual expression of concern with furrowed eyebrows is not a good look.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely - he should get a new face.
DeleteShe looks great. On the non-fashion front according to info about the visit they kept distance, no touching/hand shaking, repeatedly used hand sanitizer, and really encouraged those on the front lines who have needed to go into work - which many still do. Masks are greatly needed for those working around unknown or confirmed Covid-19 patients. Prince William also discussed doing video conference visits for the future.
ReplyDeleteGlo
Thanks for the info!!! I am sure they behave in a sensible way. I love the pink suit as well.
DeleteI also read that although they went before the PM’s order to close public places down they waited to show it until after the order went out so that it was in the context of social distancing & the Queen’s message. Also via video, Prince William highlighted donating to the National Emergency Trust - a fund set up to help those in hardship during a time such as this.
DeleteI think their willingness to step in for the Queen & POW (who are needed to relocate) shows once again their heart to serve.
Glo
This is a lovely two piece suit, gorgeous colour, the pants fit perfectly and love the length. The grey colour of the shoes is perfect. A subtle delicate necklace would have been nice.
ReplyDeleteMasks are recommended if you are sick to protect others. They don’t protect you from others. They modeled for others the frequent disinfecting of hands, touched practically nothing and spoke to others at a distance except for their guide who was probably carefully vetted for the virus. It is not expected that they as a couple remain at a safe distance. They do live together. This are the people who are working tirelessly to answer the calls of all those thousands of people who need help. I am sure the visit was a great morale booster. The suit is lovely except for the fitting of the pants at the knees. Probably because of her being so tall while the pants are tailored for an average height.
ReplyDeleteLisaMariaParis
Je suis extrêmement surprise de la stratégie britannique face au virus ; l'avenir nous dira qui avait raison : mesures drastiques ou laisser faire ; espérons que ça ne tournera pas à la catastrophe au Royaume Uni
ReplyDeleteIt is not "laisser faire" here. Everything is closed, people are working from home.
DeleteTheir visit was very probably risky but they didn't just turn up without notice - it was an organised visit and they made sure to follow certain protocols about hygiene.
If I am well informed British strategy changed over the last week or so! The are applying now more or less the same precaution principles as anywhere else.
DeleteOh, now we are talking. This outfit is a way better than anything she has had on for a while. The trousers don't fit as well as they could, but still. - Siri
ReplyDeleteI think they meant well and would have done whatever the precaution those people at the center told them to. Please be kind during this challenging time.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree! And I think she looks great in this suit. Wonderful colour!
DeleteJoann
DeleteI agree with Anonymous 10:34 a.m. I think what the Duke and Duchess did - visiting those who do not have the choice to stay home is to be applauded. The Ambulance Center is serving the public at this critical time. As professionals who deal with medical issues, I'm sure these workers know what the safety protocols are when handling patients and so would be aware of what should be done when the royals visit. I think it is important for the royals to make a show of highlighting those who are "in the trenches' during this time. I saw a post on another board that said the UK's mandate about sheltering in place didn't happen until 24 hours AFTER William and Catherine made their visit.
Ridicule ! Restez chez vous !
ReplyDeleteThose trousers are way too short for my liking. That´s beyond highwater. The jacket sleeves are too short too. It simply looks like she has outgrown her suit.
ReplyDeleteThe colour is fantastic though. Looks fresh, spring-like, suits her so well. I also like the style as such. A coloured suit can be a power outfit, but for the right effect, it needs to fit perfectly, and unfortunately hers doesn´t.
As for corona: I for one am happy to see that they are behaving normally. They can still use precautions (frequent hand wash etc.), but there´s no need to become paranoid now. If they had shown up with masks and rubber gloves and kept a 2m distance to everyone, that would have sent the totally wrong message and only led to more panic amongst the people. The panic reactions are far more dangerous than this virus (which has been around forever).
@Vanessa, couldn't disagree more with your statement, as usual you manipulate what others are saying in order to get your point across. Nobody is saying that they should show up with masks and gloves, what common sense people are doing is not mingling with groups, unless is absolutely necessary. Even if you are suffering from a bad cold, or flu, you do your best to not attend public events and avoid the spread, specially amongst the inmuno suppressed population. There is huge difference between panicking and being responsible. They should stay home, there are many ways to calm the population, they can be using their influence to help the healthcare system, like King Felipe has done, getting masks for doctors and nurses.
DeletePlease, go and explain your baseless theories to the families of those that have died and the many more to come.
If there was a time when people re-evaluate the mission of the monarchy, this is it.
Miss Marple.
SO well said, Miss Marple. While it is important for W&C to encourage and support, it is a much better example to do it in a teleconferencing way.
DeleteShelley
Oh, stop it Miss Marple.
DeleteYou are free to disagree with me, but don´t accuse me of manipulating what others are saying. Some comments have wondered why William and Kate aren´t wearing masks
(for example AnonymousMarch 21, 2020 at 1:40 AM: "People are dying, and here they are, going to a crisis center, no mask or anything, with photos where they stand way less than 2 or even 1 meter, laughing out loud…"). Masks and gloves are used by many, and they make sense in the right context. I am saying that I don´t consider this to be any such context. I am sure William and Kate don´t have any flu symptoms, or else they wouldn´t have shown up. They have definitely followed all hygiene guidelines and have likely even been tested to be on the safe side. And with all that in mind, I`m saying that I actually appreciate the normalcy displayed here. If there is no danger, then taking unnecessary safety measures is just being paranoid and causing panic. That´s not a theory. Panic buying for instance has already caused a whole lot of problems.
Why don't you stop it, Vanessa??? At a time we should be kind above all else. You are not. Get over yourself.
DeleteMagnum Lady
Magnum Lady - And to tell me "get over yourself" is kind???

ReplyDeleteI think that is a good thing to do.
Just as it a good to wear cheap suit from M&S that nearly anyone can buy, even in these economic difficult and unsure times.
As far as fashion is concerned: Well-intentioned, good colour but boring all in all and the trousers do not fit. I would have liked flat black patent leather balerinas better.
ReplyDeleteBesides, I would keep my distance from each other. It's no use to anyone if they get sick. Frieda
Hello friends, these past days I haven't even got around to check my favorite sites, first because I am working non stop, and secondly because I didn't think that there would be any royal appearances. I am incredulous at the decision to have this couple still perform duties that could definitely be postponed.
ReplyDeleteNot to get too personal, but my regular job is on the very competent hands of a recently retired colleague, and I am now working on ICU. My friends, the healthcare situation in NY is even worse that what you are reading in the press, we are going thru an enormous crisis. This couple may want to transmit normalcy, but social distancing is our most powerful tool in order to slow down the expansion of the virus. There is no "safe interaction" regardless of the measures, there is no invulnerable group, the hospital is full of healthy young people on critical care right now, and these two should be home setting the example, regardless as to weather their government has imposed quarantines or not. Just a few days ago our president was telling the citizens ( against all scientific data) that this was like a regular flu, that there were only a few cases and the virus was totally contained, that this pandemic was just a hoax of the opposition to make him look bad, a member of congress that travels with him on Air Force One showed up in congress wearing a gas mask and making a
mockery of the situation. This is not a conspiracy theory, our administration has known of the possibility of a pandemic since January, and yet felt that it wasn't politically advantageous to mobilize the government and protect its citizens with honest information and appropriate logistics. Please believe me when I say that we are running out of PPE, that we don't have enough tests and we have to make choices as to whom will get it, and the number of afflicted people is much greater than what is published.
Our lives will never be the same, as the population is loosing their loved ones, jobs, and in some cases their life savings .Sorry about the length of this post. and no, this this is not a political posture, the healthcare community is here to save lives not to campaign.
Take care of yourselves, and yours, stay home whenever possible and follow social distancing and hygiene protocols.
Best Regards.
Not sure what channel you are watching but the reporting you attribute to the US President is definitely filtered and NOT his and the COVI-19 task force’s message to citizens. There are many opportunities to see information out there. Frankly those complaining the most are the most unhelpful.
DeletePraying for those in NY as well as other places. The nurses in our family are very focused on helping and staying healthy with their wise advice to those in the thick of it to ignore the politics which will stress and distract you, especially given agendas clearly on display. They suggest using free time to enjoy fresh air, a pleasant break, a friendly conversation with someone you love. Pace yourself and your stress.

Sorry to hear CB. Have been watching many pleas for help from your state's governor and chief medical officer. I feel for you all. But most importantly, thank you to you and all medical staff around the world for the brave and excellent work you are doing to keep patients alive. And also thanks to workers on the food supply chain for keeping shelves stocked around the world where possible.

Both Gov Cuomo and Mayor De Blasio also knew this was coming and saw the devastating effects in Europe and Asia when Covid hit NY. They waited over two weeks to shut everything down. If you really feel it is necessary to point fingers of blame, there is enough to go around. Right now, the blame game is not beneficial to anyone. Both sides...everyone...must work together to do all we can to contain this virus and support those on the front lines, including all of our leaders. Ultimately, we should realize that the real blame lies on the leaders of China for first hiding this disease, then not letting the CDC in for weeks!!

ReplyDelete@Cherry Blossom. I fully agree with your comment. The situation is rather dramatic. The only thing we can do is: keeping distance and if possible stay at home. Royals, who have to set an example, have other ways to express their concern. Like speeches on tv, telephone calls to hospitals, support of all kinds of campaigns.
ReplyDelete@ Cherry Blossom keep up the good work and be careful. We'll do the same in Holland.

@'Glo, The president's comments have been shown on every network, ABC,CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, NPR, and of course reinforced by his twitter account. More to the point what are you reading, watching? Are you implying that the healthcare workers are just lying? So, I shouldn't believe what my eyes are seeing and my ears are hearing? It's unconscionable to say that his statements are filtered. Thank God we don't live in Venezuela, and we have the liberty to watch every morsel of information. Millions of people are concerned about the virus, their jobs, and the world in general. Facts are facts, and no amount of denying will change the reality of the situation. I hope and pray that we can come ahead of this tragedy, and my heart hoes out to those that are in the front lines.
ReplyDeleteWhy they do not stay at home?
ReplyDeleteCheck your calendar, it was most certainly not a few days ago that President Trump was saying anything about this being the flu or contained. That was many weeks ago when many were saying the same thing. All along he has been saying the same thing that Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx have been counseling him to do. I appreciate the fact that President Trump has remained strong and hopeful. That is what we need in a leader. He inherited a system that was never ready for something like this. He has done an incredible job of mobilizing as quickly as possible to meet this massive pandemic. When even the democratic Governor of New York has positive things to say about the President, that certainly shows how they are all working together now. When Governor Cuomo asked for more money, he got it. When he asked for drive thru testing, he got it. When he asked for private labs to do testing, Trump lifted all red tape to get it done. These are admissions from the Governor himself. I watch his news conferences and have heard it. If he is appreciative and focused on working with this President and his team, that is what we should focus on and it is one thing that will help us us through this horrible time.
ReplyDeleteAs far as this visit and Catherine's fashion...I think she looks very nice and appropriate for this visit. I do wish they would practice the social distancing that we all need to do now.

DeleteRenee not true, below tweets and staments:
DeleteFeb. 19: “I think it’s going to work out fine. I think when we get into April, in the warmer weather, that has a very negative effect on that and that type of a virus. So let’s see what happens, but I think it’s going to work out fine.”
Feb. 24 (tweet): “The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA. … Stock Market starting to look very good to me!”
Feb. 25: “You may ask about the coronavirus, which is very well under control in our country. We have very few people with it, and the people that have it are … getting better. They’re all getting better. … As far as what we’re doing with the new virus, I think that we’re doing a great job.”
Feb. 26: “Because of all we’ve done, the risk to the American people remains very low. … When you have 15 people, and the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero. That’s a pretty good job we’ve done.”
Feb. 28: “I think it’s really going well. … We’re prepared for the worst, but we think we’re going to be very fortunate.”
Feb. 28: “It’s going to disappear. One day, it’s like a miracle, it will disappear.”
Feb. 28: “This is their new hoax.”
March 4: “Some people will have this at a very light level and won’t even go to a doctor or hospital, and they’ll get better. There are many people like that.”
March 9 (tweet): “So last year 37,000 Americans died from the common Flu. It averages between 27,000 and 70,000 per year. Nothing is shut down, life & the economy go on. At this moment there are 546 confirmed cases of CoronaVirus, with 22 deaths. Think about that!”
March 10: “And it hit the world. And we’re prepared, and we’re doing a great job with it. And it will go away. Just stay calm. It will go away.”
March 11: “I think we’re going to get through it very well.”
March 12: “It’s going to go away. ... The United States, because of what I did and what the administration did with China, we have 32 deaths at this point … when you look at the kind of numbers that you’re seeing coming out of other countries, it’s pretty amazing when you think of it.”
March 8: Congressman that had spent the weekend golfing at the president's resort, and had flown with him on Air Force One, showed up while a relief package is being voted for the virus impact, with a gas mask, making a mockery of the pandemic, and Mr. Trump doesn't condone him.
The administration have been warned in January of the almost certainty of a pandemic, that is why the senators on the intelligence committee started selling their stock like hot potatoes, and this is on audiotape, the senator warning his buddies and donors....and yet they did nothing.
All of his supporters will continue to deny, what we see, and hear, deflecting and saying that all the networks lie, all journalist lie, all doctors and nurses lie, unfortunately millions have lost faith.
As of now, congress and senate are doing whatever they can to help, and the president in view of the market crash and despite of his embarrassing statements, is admitting that we are in crisis.
Facts are facts.
Agree Renee!! The news conferences - federal and local are most helpful in spite of some reporters asking the same ridiculous and irrelevant questions repeatedly like what people should even call this virus! Come on you get 1-2 questions - please make them about info that is helpful:). Also thank you for pointing to actions taken even by fellow Americans joining in to help with supplies- there are a lot of encouraging developments.
DeleteRegarding certain news I will just say use whatever you like thankfully it is our right and I have communicated that but different channels do not always mean different perspective or even helpful info. One anecdote I will pass along- only to be helpful- happened to be regarding CNN & MSNBC last week. One elderly parent watched one channel while another one watched the other and both of them felt anxious about needing to get a test before a shortfall- something those channels and even some celebs were pressing the end of last week universal testing- REGARDLESS OF SYMPTOMS OR EXPOSURE. We needed to help our moms feel calm about NOT rushing to get testing since they are 1) symptom free 2) haven’t been exposed and 3) the testing sights available at the time would have put them at VERY HIGH risk of exposure. Even not rushing to the dr but calling the office first is very important. This week in our area there are drive through testing but only for those who meet certain criteria symptoms, exposure, job requiring public interactions (first responders, medical, police, etc.). Some places just opened the testing up for anyone to come (yes you NJ) and thousands were in their cars- which was at least somewhat separate. So we are helping our folks to stay home while we seek to help and keep our distance:) just did their yard work with our kids yesterday.
FYI- I am not encouraging people to not get tested but also not feel urgent panic to do so either. I know they have released enough tests and also a new rapid one was released as well. Sorry so long. Again still praying for those afflicted and (along with) a huge thank you especially to those (like CB) serving/caring for others.

Anonymous @ 6;27, facts don’t face Trump supporters, I have been in a room watching a statement, and they turn around and deny that he said it. He himself denies what he just said a few minutes before. I am republican conservative woman, but I will say that the incompetence of this administration will cost many lives. Granted that this situation is overwhelming for any government, but to hear our president praise himself day in and day out, evade the question or right out lie concerning the medical supplies is an insult to to the medical community and the affected. It’s a shame how some of you attack the ones that are only stating the facts.
DeleteAmanda
"Anonymous"at 6:27, nothing whatsoever that you have posted refutes anything that Renee said. Her post was factual. Yours, sadly, is typical spin from Trump-haters who ignore the factual timeline, ignore the president's daily press conferences on this subject, ignore the statements of the team of top virologists and other acknowledged experts that he has assembled, and ignore the statements from state officials who are not political allies of the president's but who in decency and fairness acknowledge the help and cooperation they have been receiving (and not just receiving at the last minute). Leaders all over the world are trying in good faith to respond to this unforeseen catastrophe as effectively as possible, and at the same time to provide hope in the midst of an ever-changing situation. If you have answers that the President and his team of advisers have missed, perhaps you could be of service in the midst of this crisis by sharing your insights with them. In the meantime, I urge everyone to stay well-informed from primary sources. All the best, and stay well.
DeleteI meant to say condem.
DeleteJane Chantal, no spin here, factual declarations and tweets with a real timeline, of course you will deny everything regardless. Yes I am watching the daily briefings, and hearing the president pin medals to himself, call himself smart, and assume no responsibility about anything, interrupt the experts, and frankly make statements that are constantly corrected by the experts. This is an overwhelming catastrophe and at this point everybody in the administration is going as much as humanly possible, as well as the house and senate, that is a fact, but is also a fact what zip said above. BTW, don't call me a hater that is also not a fact.
DeleteSorry to say, Jane Chantal, Renee, Glo and others. I'm not American, and I have zero partisan ties to US politics, but everything Anon 6:27 has factually stated - I and millions around the world have seen your president (if he is your president) utter in no uncertain terms, with bravado, and under no suspect context. It is no secret to the world just where he stands on this issue and how he flip flops at the risk of his citizens lives and welfare. To deny that his words and policies are untrue and are not the reason why the US is in the situation they are with this pandemic is outright delusional.
DeleteMy best wishes to you and to everyone that you can come through this situation in the best way possible.

@Anon 9:13, thank you!! I am a Spanish citizen living in Madrid and currently staying at home for the 12th day. I, like you, have no partisanship whatsoever in American politics, but needless to say I am not blind or deaf, and I am very much aware of Mr Trump’s statements and tweets. We are now paying for the same reckless behavior at the hands of our government, the second in command is going around giving press conferences and attending political meetings while his partner is quarantined for a positive result. She is the same person that met with the queen and of course the entire royal family had to be tested and monitored. Both belong to annextreme left ( communist ) party, quite the opposite of the US president, so no I am not biased!! Our government authorized a massive demonstration to celebrate women’s Day, that was right when the World Health Organization had put every country on high alert. The end result of this congregation will cost hundreds of lives. In the beginning the made the same statements, ridiculed people’s concerns, made distasteful jokes, blamed the opposition party of spinning the situation, exactly as we have seen coming from Mr Trump.
DeleteGood luck to all of you, we are under siege here.

Anon 6:27 is 100% correct
DeleteAnon. 9:13 -- it is obvious by now that this discussion is futile -- which is no surprise. I stand by what I have said, and will add that _over two weeks before_ the earliest "tweet" sneeringly referenced by "Anonymous at 6:27", and one day after the World Health Organization officially declared the coronavirus outbreak to be a public health emergency of international concern, the Trump administration suspended travel into the U.S. by foreign nationals who had been in China during the previous 14 days, and ordered the quarantining of some American returning travelers. These actions were ahead of the curve, almost certainly saved many, many lives, and probably will never be acknowledged by Trump-haters as anything more than a random piece of good fortune for which our president should receive no credit. Best wishes to you and yours.
Delete@Carmen: My heart and prayers are with you. I have been following the pandemic situation in Spain as well and it is heartbreaking. Sadly politicians don't see the light until it is too late. And some never do. Look after yourself, be safe and limit your movements. If you're isolating, it can be very difficult to manage so stay in touch here. Best of luck to you.
Delete- Anon 9:13
@Jane Chantal 3.33am: You present an extraordinarily narrow view of his actions by any standard. In case you are unaware, several countries including my own had already suspended travel to China by the time your president did. You call that being 'ahead of the curve' ? If that's your case for proaction, what's your case for his subsequent quotes and your current situation? You are correct, this discussion is futile. Be safe and be well.

Delete@Glo, I generally don't debate with people that tell us that what the president has said or done, didn't happen, and that we must be watching some sort of partisan news, this is a phenomenon that I can't even comprehend.
ReplyDeleteThe implication that I must be either lying or that some sort of clandestine network has infiltrated our televisions and changed the words of the president, would be laughable if it wasn't so insulting. In the few breaks that we have, we are glued to the television, and phones, following any information , tracking the CDC website, following the curve, and observing the models and patterns of every country, by the way I highly recommend ( worldometers.com) that gives updated information 24/7, so no, I am not making up stories.
I have served honorably under many presidents as a military NP and midwife, and I still do as an Air Force reservist when duty calls, I am apolitical and have always honored the highest office in the country, but I won't spread feelgood stories that only mislead the public and endangers human life, I am in the business of bringing life into the world, not the opposite. Undoubtedly it's your choice to recommend long walks and socialize as you please, but it is my duty to follow science and contribute even a little bit to save lives.
My dear virtual friends I will probably won't be able to chat for a few days, stay healthy, follow your conscience, protect your families, send good energy, pray if that is your way of coping, stay strong, this too shall pass.

So the rules that apply to us may not to them as their duties require. Engagements aren't taken on a whim - they are formally arranged by secretaries with consultation with the entity visited - if the call centre thought the visit ill-advised or that protective clothing should be worn, that would have happened.
This visit took place before the isolation took place - the visit was embargoed to the press when it occurred both so it would not conflict with the queen's message to the nation and to avoid crowds gathering by the arrival of a royal. It was thoughtfully and carefully done and perhaps we should accept the judgement of those who arranged it.
Call centres are invisible to most of us, even more than first responders. They have been overwhelmed of late with calls which may block those truly in need whether from the virus or other illnesses from receiving assistance. Other illnesses - heart attacks, strokes and many others, as well as accidents don't cease just because we are in a world-wide crisis. There was even a report of a young man dying of asthma because a call couldn't get through. I'm reminded of a film many years back - I believe it was Hope and Glory about the Blitz that showed a house burning - and the fire fighters pointed out that fires unrelated to bombing happen - even in war.
There is nothing like a personal visit from a royal to bring attention to a cause, especially when there is so much competition from other press reports. So I feel William and Kate's visit, calling attention to the work of call centres and reminding people to use this precious resource wisely was very important. Whilst calls, such as Victoria did, are very welcome by those receiving them, they don't draw the same public attention. I believe most thoughtful people will accept that William and Kate's visit doesn't mean they should socialise - no more than the king's visit to a bombing site during the war meant others should rush there. The elder royals are sheltering as advised. The queen is expected to give a message at some point.
Panic and excessive fear serves no purpose, other than to encourage these dreadful scenes of excessive shopping and unnecessary calls. Humour can help difficult situations. I do't feel it's a time for political statements that may be divisive - the truth of the situation will come in time. For now, we all know what we must do.
I thought Kate's outfit most appropriate - warmly coloured but not overly bright and representing a high street that will be terribly affected by this crisis.
A Happy Mother's Day to all - whether you can be with mum or not - the caring is still there.
Julia, good Lord!!
DeleteI guess we can rationalize insensitive and possibly reckless behavior as long as it comes from your favorite royals. What a frivolous statement.
Maybe you could explain it to the families of the victims.
Anonymous 7:41, I don't see that Julia supports "reckless behaviour" here or that her statement is "frivolous". And, Anonymous, do you have a name?
DeleteVery well said, Julia. I totally agree.
DeleteOpinion on Catherine's outfit seems to be pretty evenly divided three ways: between those who like it very much, those who strongly dislike it, and those who would like it if the fit were different. For me, it works beautifully both in terms of appropriateness and appearance. I think it fits her like a dream (crucially, she has the figure for it), with just the right smidgen of ease, and the subtly cropped pants and sleeves supply a fashion-forward vibe without (thank heavens :-) going to extremes. As another contributor pointed out, the color is pretty and upbeat yet muted enough to look businesslike. The heels provide a nice little punch of low-key glam. Well-played, Duchess Catherine!
ReplyDeleteSince this is a post about fashion and has hit on a discussion about the situation. I thought I would pass along this link for anyone who likes to sew- please check your local area and needs. In our area some nursing homes and hospitals are accepting homemade face masks. This video is a tutorial on how to sew/make face masks. Thanks for bearing with my other long posts.

Glo
Nice outfit. But they are no good role models here.
ReplyDeletePlease show us Crown Prince Frederick of Denmark talking to the danish red cross organisation. Prince Christian took the photo. It's not about fashion, but isn't it nice to see?
