  1. Charles and Camilla---I like the caring look passing between them but her crossed leg makes it look untidy in a way. The Sussexes card is very arty and classy but if you hadn't been told it was them, how would you know? The Cambridge's card is amazing. They all look so happy and the children have grown so much since their last appearance, especially Prince Louis. It's lovely.

  2. What a wonderful photo of Catherine, William and their lovely children!

  3. Why do the British royals have "Christmas" card pictures that have nothing to do with Christmas? No Christmas tree, no holly, no mistletoe, no stockings, no nativity, nothing. All those pictures have absolutely nothing to do with Christmas. Plus the Sussexes have their backs to everyone in their picture. They went for an artsy-fartsy type pic taken at their reception! I do like the Cambridges' picture because of the kids (all adorable). Always nice to see pics of their kids, but it has nothing to do with Christmas! Even Charles and Camilla's picture is nice for a picture of a couple, but nothing about Christmas in it.

    1. A card - any card - is not defined by what's on the front but by the message contained inside.
Having an image on the front of the person, persons or group who are sending the card, or their monogram, or almost any civil image, is quite acceptable.

    2. I think they're aiming for photos that are celebrations of family and the holiday "season" but still not holiday-specific in respect for so many British subjects who are not Christian. I used to find it odd but after living in the United States for so many years, where people only say "Merry Christmas" if they are absolutely certain the person they're speaking to is also Christian, I recognize the wisdom of not offending people with assumptions about their practices. I see them as "holiday season" or new year's wishes and less like "Christmas" focused. It's still very nice to have the cheerful reminders of the coming celebrations. Here in the US, where photos are usually sent with Christmas cards, the photos tend to be of the family's most important event that year. In this case it's the birth of Louis for the Cambridges, Charles' 70th birthday, and M and H's wedding.

    3. I like all the cards, each expressing a particular aspect of love. It's interesting that there is a variety of reactions to Harry and Meghan's. I kind of took it as a statement of joy in being newly married. I appreciate that the message inside Charles and Camilla's explicitly says "Christmas"; perhaps they all do.

    4. They usually chose a snap depicting a happy time in the year for them. The photos are chosen months in advance to allow for printing and sending (1,000's of them) all over the Commonwealth. Would you prefer a fake photo with prop tree and decorations?

  4. Three lovely pictures, each depicting something different. A relaxed family of five who are very public, yet very private and close knit. A young, ambitious, glamorous couple who like pushing the edge. And finally, a happy couple who have braved many storms and are clearly at peace with who they are.

  5. Love the Cambridge Christmas card . They look absolutely amazing. What a beautiful family?

  6. The Cambridges photo is delightful! Everyone looks so good.
Prince Louis definitely gets his features from the Middleton side of the family. He looks like Catherine's father Michael.

The Sussexes photo is not only awkward, but vague enough to be any couple.
One could honestly mistake it for two random people looking sadly at their burning home caused by the California fires.

In any event, a Happy Christmas to them all.

  7. Lovely picture of the Cambridge!
Can anyone explain why Harry & Meghan turn their back on 'us'.
Don't like their choice at all

  8. Love William and Catherine's photo, so relaxed, natural, and each of the children's expressions seem to capture their personality.

  9. What lovely scenes. The lively children of William and Kate. The serene look of H&M at Frogmore House and last the loving looks between Charles and Camilla. Very nice Christmas cards. So I wish them all a merry Chistmas and a happy New Year.

    1. There are different ideas of christmas cardsnin different royal houses, British ones chooce a best pic to themselves, a pic with meaning. The Norwegian ones want to pose for Christmas. I like myself the British ones best because they are true, nor just artificial poses.

    2. Sorry to disappoint you but they are all posing, just in different surroundings, but posing they are!

    3. Anonymous, I do not think this picture here was anyway planned before. They are in every day clothes all. George has dirty jeans. Nobody takes wellingtons to any picture pose really. Posing is not that you smile to pic, it is something else (and I should know it really). Mostly also Charles and Camilla took just the pic they like themselves. As did Harry and Meghan this year.

    4. Sorry again Blondiini, but I don't see George's dirty jeans. What about Kate's perfect blow-dry and full make up? The colour-coordinated clothes? Can you honestly believe that this is how they roll every day? And, more importantly, what was the professional photographer doing in their garden if this was not a planned photoshoot? Do you really think that he just happened to be there that day while the family was going about their casual day? Maybe they were not even aware that they were being photographed? :-D C'mon! They are of course posing, they just chose to take a more casual looking photo, perhaps after the criticism of last year's sterile and stiff-looking photo without a background... I know you will not agree, but let's agree to disagree. Merry Christmas (if you celebrate it)!

    5. Anonymous; I happen to be a photographer myself. How this pic is cut is not how professional photographer frame a photo. The pic is also not sharp and it has been sharpened to their hands (the sharpest point), not something professional does. Also there has been a dirt at lense, you can see it below the tree at the left. I cannot see any photoshoping myself, but what I would have myself correct at photoshop is how bright places has burned over. Do I need to go on? LOL

Yes, I am selebrating Christmas and wish a nice Christmas also to you.

  12. wonderful cards, all three.
The Cambridges card is very lovely, it looks 'informal' and relaxed.
The Sussex' card is very stylish and 'art'.
Charles and Camillas card is wonderful, that look of love!

  13. These royal Christmas cards also go out to people all over the world. Remember that the British royals also have connections to 52 Commonwealth countries, all of whom do not celebrate Christmas. So the cards are acceptable to all persons whatever their religions.

    1. Sorry, no apostrophe in Cambridges. That auto-correct!

    2. Maybe poor William is like me and always feels too warm! I haven't been able to wear sweaters -- or even a flannel shirt! -- comfortably in years, sigh.

  18. As the head of the Church of England, for goodness sake, grow a pair, be proud of your faith, and wish the world Merry Christmas! This pandering to whatever is popular (which at the moment is secularism), is kind of cowardly. Why even bother sending out Christmas cards if you’re embarrassed to be Christian?

      Merry Christmas!

    2. Shinystuffbuff, I agree. I think what Lisa Paris (December 14th in reply to Karen) writes, makes sense - for an american enterprise for example. I work for an international company with a US headquarter and our company follows the rules Lisa describes. That is fine for everyone. But, as you say, Shiny, Wills Grandmother is the head of the Church of England, so they should proclaim their faith.
I've read the expression "trendy lefty" somewhere. Perhaps it is that, what you mean.
