Dinner - President Halimah Yacob's State visit to the Netherlands

In the evening of November 22, 2018, King Willem-Alexander of The Netherlands and Queen Maxima of The Netherlands, Singapore President Mrs. Halimah Yacob and husband Mohamed Abdullah Alhabshee attended a Government Dinner hosted by Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte in the Trêveszaal at the Binnenhof in The Hague. The state visit ended with a government dinner. (At the dinner, Queen Maxima wore a printed stretch-crepe jumpsuit by ETRO, which she had worn in the past.)

  1. This is a "Maxima-outfit", isn't it? I would have preferred a dress instead of this jumpsuit.

  2. This is not suitable for a state dinner. Summer brunch, okay.

    1. This was NOT a state dinner at all, but an informal dinner without tiara's and evening dresses in one of the buildings of the Dutch government, hosted by our Prime Minister. Don't judge if you don't know anything about the circumstances and rules.

    2. You're a day late to the party. The State Dinner was the night before, and Maxima looked fabulous and appropriate at it. This was a less formal Government Dinner the day after, hosted by the Prime Minister, and she looks appropriate for it's reach.. and also quite fabulous in her 'Maxima only' kind of way.

    3. I agree with you Millie, this is not a suitable garment for a state dinner. It was tactless to wear such a garment.

    4. A typical beautiful Singaporian pattern for Queen Maxima to honour her guests, I think. And she does it with her very own charme. Not suitable for every "Tom, Dick and Harry".

  3. Maxima at her best. She is such a vibrant personality! Why shouldn’t her wardrobe reflect that? I admire very much her ability to stay true to herself and not abide by someone else’s so called rules. And her genuine care makes all the difference. She is so popular in the Netherlands for a reason!

  4. if someone else was wearing this jumpsuit it would be a miss, for Maxima it suits her well. But the hair may might need a trim 😀

    1. Her hair needs a trim so badly, but instead, she got extensions.

    2. The hair does not need a trim, it is full of extensions. Her own hair is much shorter, very thing, and choppy in length.

    3. even extensions are trimmed and styled please

  5. This is more a just get together outfit, but not for such an event. Well she is entitled to some mistakes and this is one of them.

  6. Hhm. Not sure about this. I like the look on the model, but I´m not sure about this for Maxima, and for a state dinner.
In my view, this needs a very slender body to work, and while Maxima is slim and in great shape, she doesn´t have that type of body. And secondly, for this jumpsuit to work for a state dinner, it needs a different styling. Her belt is totally wrong to start with, the sleeves look better pushed up a bit (like on the model) in order to allow for some bracelet space, and an elegant updo is called for. Also, a sandal seems a more fitting choice than a closed shoe, which leads my thoughts to a summer event as well (much like Millie wrote above).

    1. It was not a state dinner! it was a casual say goodbye to the guests event.
An Maxima is slender enough or the outfit!

    4. Ok, so not a state dinner (as in state banquet), I´ll give you that, but this dinner was part of the state visit with two heads of state and several other dignitaries present. The venue is very grand, red carpets were out, the table setting suggests "formal dinner", speeches were held, and everyone attending dressed up. This was not an informal affair, let alone a casual dinner.
It is of course very subjective as to whether a jumpsuit (any jumpsuit) is fit for a formal dinner, and on the queen no less. In my opinion it is not, but if one goes for one, it needs to be styled the right way, hence my concrete suggestion of what I´d change.

  8. Agree with Vanessa and Millie and the others who think that this was not the right outfit for the occasion.. it may not gave been a state dinner but I don't think dinner between two heads of state can be classified as informal. The jumpsuit itself fits Maxima well and I like the colours and pattern-- just not quite right fir this event..

  10. Whether state dinner or government dinner, I do not like this jumpsuit. The pattern is too wild and the pant part make her look larger than she is. What a disappointment from the gorgeous red dress.

  11. I should hate this look. But I don’t. I love it, because it brings a smile to my face.

  12. I love the outfit. A haircut is necessary. Long bleached hair needs a lot of maintenance.

  13. Not appropriate outfit,I would wear it just for a walk with friends

  14. Very nice look for Maxima and true to her own style.

  15. She just has to stand out any way she can, regardless of the occasion.

    1. Nin Pujol, i’ve noticed lately that you only react to posts about Queen Máxima and then always in a very negative and snarky way. I wonder why?
