Duchess Catherine Becomes Honorary Member of RPS

The RPS (Royal Photographic Society), a organisation devoted to promoting photography, has made the Duchess Catherine of Cambridge an honorary life member. The Duchess of Cambridge has been a keen photographer for many years, and in 2015 captivated the public with the first official pictures of her newborn daughter Princess Charlotte. She has also released pictures to celebrate milestones in her children's lives, including Prince George's first day at nursery, and Princess Charlotte's first birthday.

    2. Actually Coralie she has exhibited photos prior to her marriage. It is a hobby.

Btw this is not a huge honor but probably a lead in to her becoming a patron of the organization.

Anyone can be a member with a fee paid. They waived the fee for the Duchess as the 'honor' part. The hope is that she will boost the interest in photography and ppl will join and participate.

She took some rather stunning photos when they were in SE Asia back in 2012. She does have an eye for it however. I am a amateur photographer (hobby but have a dark room) and if she had the time she could really develop a talent. Many professional photographers have stated that she has a talent. Kudos for her. To become patron would be a great thing for all parties.

    3. Diane, thanks for the information! Did Catherine not study art history? So her interest in photography seems logical. But I am not sure, probably she studied something else.
So you have a dark room. Does it mean you never take digital photos? Or do you use a digital camera for everyday life and analog for more artistic pictures? My husband refused to start using digital cameras for quite a long time. But then even he recognized that his really good analog equipment was too heavy and bulky to take it on every vacation, be it in the mountains, on a ship, whereever.

    4. Yes she has a degree in Art History.

I still carry around an old style Nikkon LOL ~ for me that is the art part of photography. lol
It is more work due to all the equipment required but that is also part of the fun. Many of the royal photographers that follow the BRF are totally old school. I follow most of them on Twitter and IG and one ~ Chris Jackson works for Getty and when he travels he usually snaps a pic of his cameras and lens etc and I always laugh because it takes up two suitcases. He is engaged btw to Natasha Archer who just happens to be the PA and sometime stylist for Kate. Perks of the job I guess. Lol

I really do not take many digital shots. I am old. So I am also old school. I do use my cell phone for pictures all the time..you know food shots...selfies minus duck lip shots 😄😁 ...snow pictures for my children to see since they live in Texas and never see snow. Does that make me more hip? hahaaha

    5. I quit dark room stuff years ago, had mine also years. Today it is so much easier, quicker and cheaper to do all the dark room things digitally. And SLR cameras have developed very much during last decades. I have several cameras, I am Canon person. Mostly I use EOS 5 or 7. But they are of course heavy to carry and sometimes too apparent. I have always a little Canon (today SX710HS) with me.

  4. There is a warmth captured in the photographs she takes of her children ! I'm no expert, as my family albums can testify to :-(. There's a lot more to it than clicking the button !

    2. It's a pity that she is criticized whatever she does.
Her family photos are excellent and are equal to professional quality. Good for her!

  5. Not bad at all. Some issues with shadows with flash ligt and sharp focusing, probably cause the camera is not very good. But anyway best of royals taking own photos we have seen here.

In my view all puplicity to make people take good photos is very good.
