Every year, the Imperial Household Agency conducts disaster preparedness drills on Disaster Prevention Day. On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako, along with Princess Aiko, took part in a disaster preparedness drill for employees at the Imperial Household Agency. During the drill, the Emperor, Empress and Princess Aiko used fire extinguishers to knock down panels representing flames.
How marvelous and pro active, what a great exercise, I love this idea. To be ready for any disaster wonderful, effort. The Royal ladies look fabulous, good choice in casual yet stylish gear.
ReplyDeleteThey all got the memo for the dress code, obviously. Joking aside, it is good to see them setting a good example by participating in emergency case drills.
ReplyDeleteInteresting sleeves on Aiko blouse, adds a feminine touch. Even in these casual environment the ladies keep their posture and footing perfect. The king at least takes a natural stance. Lovely family

ReplyDeleteWhat an important event to take part in. Disaster preparedness is taught world wide today. I learned these skills from Los Angeles Country Fire Department while serving in a government role years ago. Our class had to put real fires out. And don't the royal ladies look neat and appropriately dressed for the occasion.! Love how the Empress adds a slender belt to a casual blouse.
ReplyDeleteGood for you Virginia. Just one small correction: “Disaster preparedness SHOULD be taught world wide today”, but certainly isn’t. The majority of countries are too poor and disorganised to teach such widely and terrible lack of preparedness is still the norm. Even in many parts of the USA I’m guessing. Consider what has just occurred in Nepal as an example. We are lucky in our rich countries.
DeleteIt is certainly true that some countries are not adequately prepared for disasters. However, sadly, at least in the case of the recent natural disaster in Nepal, the devastation was on such a massive scale—arguably beyond anyone’s control—that even a country with very well-developed disaster preparedness would have found its preparations of limited help.
