On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, King Haakon VIII took the Oath to the Constitution in the Storting. Taking the oath is one of the most important constitutional acts connected with a succession to the throne. During the ceremony on September 1, President of the Storting Masud Gharahkhani read the official announcement from the Office of the Prime Minister regarding the death of King Harald V and the succession of a new King to the throne. Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra, Queen Sonja and Prince Sverre Magnus attended the oath-taking ceremony of the King.
