On September 1, 2026, King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark attended the funeral of former Royal Chaplain Erik Norman Svendsen, held at the Garrison Church in Copenhagen. Bishop Erik Norman Svendsen, who served as Royal Chaplain from 2008 to 2018 and as Bishop of the Diocese of Copenhagen from 1992 to 2009, has died at the age of 85.
Among the guests were King Frederik and Queen Mary, whom Erik Norman Svendsen came to know well through his work as Royal Chaplain from 2008 to 2018. In May 2004, Erik Norman Svendsen, then serving as Royal Chaplain, married the then Crown Prince and Crown Princess at their wedding in the Church of Our Lady (Vor Frue Kirke) in Copenhagen.
Two years later, in 2006, Erik Norman Svendsen baptised the couple’s firstborn child, the current Crown Prince Christian, at his christening in the Chapel of Christiansborg Palace. He also baptised and confirmed the royal couple’s three other children.
