On Friday afternoon, August 14, 2026, Queen Mary of Denmark attended the 2026 FEI Dressage World Championships in Aachen, Germany, to watch the competition and support Danish equestrian Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour, who was competing in the Individual Grand Prix Spécial Final. Laudrup-Dufour went on to win a silver medal in the event.

ReplyDelete100% yes to the MABE blouse. It’s very pretty and a little bit different. A white blouse is always useful and easily paired (… although, does anyone else find this, a pain to wash to keep it white without resorting to using bleaches and chemicals that are terrible for the environment? I use bicarbonate soda but eventually whites are no longer white without bleaches… or?).

Delete@06:02: Maybe it is not so noticable, except the people surrounding you wear new strikingly white clothing? Bleach is bad for the environment, but also for the fabric itself. For a tan skirt like Mary's it is white enough - and by the way, white is the best colour to combine with tan/beige anyway.

Dear 9:18, a very good point that we don’t need the whitest of whites! I think fabric really counts here … if we have a white tshirt the material doesn’t stand the test of time and the manual abrasive ness required to scrub off yellowing … whereas a good quality white linen is quite robust for some scrubbing with a cleaning soap then hanging in the full sun.

With all the soap products which are available these days to do the washing, it is not a problem anymore to wash white clothes, which stay white.

ReplyDeleteApparently the EU President was attending the event on Friday to present a trophy as she does annually; she is herself an equestrienne, and rode in the opening ceremony for this championship competition 11 years ago. Lyra

ReplyDeleteYes 13:06 pretty sure she was into horses, sailing, running pre Frederik and these joint interests were part of their sense of having found a real love match. Of course now she has access to extraordinary horses and facilities, but was already passionate about riding from what I understand.

As an Australian I refuse to criticise Mary. So I won’t comment on the glasses. Not her best outfit overall I think. btw my grandmother used a product called bluo to keep whites white, and I often throw a couple of blue things in the white wash just in case it helps.
ReplyDeleteIn Belgium my grandmother used also little blue cubes(don't know the name of the brand)to add to the white wash . But in those days the white clothes and house linen was dried outside in the sunshine. In the meantime everybody nows that white linen and also other white textiles are becoming yellow when dried in the sunshine. Since people are using electronic dryers the white linen must not hang outside in the sunshine anymore.
Delete12:58 most people I know don’t have or rarely use clothes dryers because they are so energy consuming. We air dry inside or out in the sun.

DeleteIt depends in what kind of house or appartement you live. Not everybody has a big garden to dry the white sheets outside. Not everybody have a big house where the linen can be dried inside. Most people I know do have dryers because drying the wash outside in the sun is not possible anymore because there are too many insects who are leaving stains on the bedsheets or factories or traffic like airplanes who are causing air-pollution. Since the new appartements are becoming smaller the latest invention is a washing machine and dryer in one device. Not cheap but needing less space than 2 separate devices.
