Princess Madeleine, Duchess of Hälsingland and Gästrikland, gave an interview for the August–September issue of Vogue Scandinavia. The Princess, who returned to Stockholm with her family just over two years ago, invited the magazine to the island of Djurgården and the Royal Stables for her first interview with Vogue Scandinavia.
Princess Madeleine spoke about growing up as a member of the royal family, struggling with her role, meeting her husband, Chris O’Neill, and the launch of her skincare brand, minLen. ReplyDeletePhotos 4 and 5 have mad clothes (why I don’t buy magazines such as Vogue, because the pages are filled with weird photos that are supposed to be arty and marketing even if the model might be lovely in less shocking designs… not to mention around 33% of all pages being pure marketing).

ReplyDeleteMadeleine is beautiful and usually I like her fashion choices, but I don’t like any of these outfits. The red dress looks particularly shapeless and unflattering. I don’t know what’s going on with that bizarre white shirt. Her hairstyling is also not looking great here, which is atypical for her. I don’t think the Vogue stylists did a very good job for her.

Intentionally wild - this is a magazine shoot , I think it of it like a catwalk, not outfits you wear to the supermarket! I absolutely adore the long black (blue?) dress with the feathers - I can see that being something she could wear. LRB

ReplyDeleteAs for the clothes, they seem to have been selected primarily for their photo impact. And the red colour difference between the first and second photos is just frustrating. I had hoped to see clothes which really enhanced Madeleine's unusual colouring ( blue eyes with warm olive complexion); remembering that Vogue did a great job of garment selection when they showcased Sarah Ferguson, and later her daughters Beatrice and Eugenie. From the video, there are likely photos of the princess in the magazine wearing more clothes than are shown in the post, so these pics alone may not be representative.
Madeleine carries these garments with grace; I just wish we could better see that interesting apricot satin evening gown. I always adored Madeleine's style when we would regularly see her wearing fabulous gala gowns like this one. Lyra

Not all the styles of ensembles she is wearing, appeal to me regardless of that fact she looks sensational in all these outfits. She has the natural flair and style to wear these ensembles successfully. She is a really stunning, Princess/woman. Natural beauty.

ReplyDeleteI don't get why the Vogue stylist choose so weird and shapeless outfits. But Madeleine still manage to look gorgeous, as usual. And the setting appears to be lovely. You can see that the princess feels comfortable around the horses and outdoors.

ReplyDeletePerfect summary. This is a publicity stunt milking her royal name for her product line. I´m not a fan. The photos themselves are likely meant to make her stand out as wild, fierce and free-spirited - and she is none of those things. She is known to be shy and used to struggle with public attention, she´s certainly not as extroverted as the photos suggest.
DeleteI don´t know what to make of this. I don´t think the photos are pretty as such, they´re mostly weird. The first one looks like a photoshop job especially contrasted with the second photo which is less processed; The dark one looks gothic; the one with the other lady features the strangest blouse which looks somewhere inbetween a torn theatre costume and an aluminium foil sculpture; the black feathery gown has the most potential and looks stunning against the white background, but then the background ruins it all - why did they not crop it out? And lastly, the one with the horse is nice, but a bit lame.
I don´t think these photos put in her in a good light, literally and figuratively. But they give her publicity which I have to assume is what she is after since she specifically talked about her product line and herself approached the magazine and inviting them to Djurgården and the royal stables.
Did she find a new job ? Playing photo model like the Grimaldi's ?

DeleteI’m not sure I have an opinion either way, but it probably should be noted that many other royals have done this before with Vogue, or similar, including Queen Mary, POW Kate, HSH Charlene. I’m sure they are many more but those are the most recent in my memory.

Finally and once again, I sense that no matter the woman- royal or not- beauty is never forgiven especially by some other women.
Nobody can choose the body she was born in and beauty is not a fault.

Time has come that the Royal houses are becoming smaller : the king, the queen, the crown prince or crown princess, the daughter and sons of the crown prince or the crown princess. The brothers and sisters of the king or queen have to study for a job because they don't receive money anymore from the government (the tax payers) of their country. It is like that in The Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Norway and maybe Sweden too.... They still belong to the royal family but not to the royal house.
DeleteAn interesting array of comments here, many matching my own opinion that pairing up with Vogue to look “natural in a field of sheep” and don some really weird styles including a very unwearable 4 pronged silver collar (why?) is not necessarily a good option. I’m guessing she got paid handsomely for the gig, as having her on the cover will make a lot of money for Vogue… but she’s very beautiful and if the Vogue stylists had opted to leave her natural, the photos would have been a lot more worthy than the styling choices which they made, which bewilder me. I find it so frustrating looking through such magazines as you pay a lot for them and pretty much all you get is advertising.

ReplyDeleteA pastoral location to start with, the Princess framed this way in her fiery red gown is a work of art.
I can spot some Pre- Raphaelite features in these two shots.
What a sharp contrast with the unusual surroundings!
Secondly, the Princess dressed like she was the leading actress in a fantasy film.
Thirdly, the Princess in a business- like attire, the pointed collar ...well, It doesn't t appeal to me at all, maybe it was meant to add some drama but it comes across as a piece taken from a theatre backstage.
Fourtly, the Princess in a long black ensemble and once again ,the feathers add a dramatic touch, Iove every single detail of this piece!
I had a deja vu upon seeing it.
It calls to mind Madonna performing her song "Frozen" (video).
The last chapter: the Princess coming back to her royal self, beautiful gown, gorgeous hair, superb horse!

Good hair genes from her mother because her siblings are also blessed with good hair? Or she has discovered some good haircare products that help to maintain hair so prettily?

Princess Madeleine is a natural beauty. I love the first photo with the sheep in the meadow - so pensive and peaceful looking. A few comments seem a little too notoriously "catty" for my liking - Princess Madeleine, like a few others reached beyond the monarchy to find themselves and their own happiness.

The more I look at the photos, the more I start to enjoy them. I like how she managed to look so beautiful and natural in all those clothes and settings.
ReplyDeleteWe are used to seeing her in professional pantsuits and dresses or elegant evening gowns, and suddenly she's wearing something different, and I think that she nailed the photoshoot perfectly, even though she's not a professional model, nor has model's body.
Well done.
But I hope she won't do it more often and will concentrate more on helping the Swedish Royal Family and doing more official duties.
