Crown Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko are making an official visit to Paraguay to mark the 90th anniversary of Japanese immigration to the country. On August 23, 2026, the Crown Prince and Crown Princess visited the Yguazu Japanese Settlement. The settlement was established in 1961 as one of Paraguay's Japanese immigrant settlements and is located in the Alto Paraná Department in eastern Paraguay.
On Saturday, August 22, 2026, the Crown Prince and Crown Princess visited the La Colmena Japanese Settlement and received Japanese immigrants and people of Japanese descent from La Colmena at the La Colmena Japanese Cultural Association. The first group of settlers arrived in 1936, making La Colmena the birthplace of Japanese immigration to Paraguay.
On Friday, August 21, 2026, the Crown Prince and Crown Princess laid flowers at the memorial monument marking the 90th anniversary of Japanese immigration to Paraguay, attended the commemorative ceremony for the anniversary at CONMEBOL, and received Paraguayans with close ties to Japan, as well as Japanese immigrants and people of Japanese descent, at the Bourbon Hotel.
