On August 29, 2026, King Haakon VIII gave his first speech to the nation at the Royal Palace in Oslo. Norway’s new King Haakon VIII addressed the Norwegian people for the first time since ascending to the throne, paying tribute to his 89-year-old father, who passed away the day before. “We are in mourning, yet at the same time, it brings comfort and strength that so many are grieving together with us,” King Haakon said.

  2. King Haakon VIII will be taking the Oath of Office on Tuesday in the Norwegian Parliament Storting. A Benediction Ceremony in the Nidarosdom Trondheim (Trondheim Cathedral) will most likely take place at some yet to be scheduled point in the future. Also no further details of the funeral (date, time), only that the final burial place of King Harald V will be in the Royal Mausoleum at Akershus Festning (Akershus Fortress) Oslo.

They all look sad but appropriately dignified. Their composure is commendable. I am glad Haakon and Ingrid Alexandra are doing the meetings following King Harald’s death together. In addition to them likely being good supports for each other, this is an important way for the Crown Princess to learn from her father the King before she, too, steps into the monarch role in the hopefully-distant future.

Lovely blouse, perfect for the occasion simple but feminine.

Carrying on their duties amid their sorrow. Great admiration for King Haakon and CP Ingrid Alexandra. Her detailed blouse is elegant and beautiful. And I love the black bow adornment for her neatly styled hair. While I might have tucked in the blouse and added a belt, this is the young princess' choice and I will not criticize her. Overall she has always shown us her wonderful sense of fashion. She demonstrates an air of respect and support for her father and King. Look at the sweet warmth in her face when addressing the priest as her dad looks on.

Haakon the VIII and CPss Ingrid Alexandra will have big shoes to fill. Hope they are up to the task. I like to extend my condolences to the RF and Queen Sonja and of course to the people of Norway. My King Harold V RIP.
