On July 25, 2026, Archduchess Isabel of Austria, daughter of Archduke Simeon of Austria and Princess Maria Paloma of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, married Carlos de Palacio y Gaytán de Ayala at the Jesuit Church in Vienna. King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, together with Princess Elisabeth and Prince Gabriel, attended the wedding ceremony.
At the wedding ceremony, the bride, Archduchess Isabel, wore the Bourbon-Two Sicilies Diamond Button Tiara. Comprising five round diamond buttons with a foliage design set in a simple platinum structure, this tiara was a family gift to Princess Alicia of Bourbon-Parma on the occasion of her wedding to Infante Alfonso, Duke of Calabria, in 1936.
Royal guests and relatives from across Europe gathered to celebrate the wedding of Archduchess Isabel and Carlos de Palacio. Archduchess Marie Astrid and Archduke Carl Christian of Austria were also present at the wedding.
For the occasion, Queen Mathilde wore a red guipure off-the-shoulder dress by Natan Couture. Princess Elisabeth wore a green dress by Maje. Archduchess Marie Astrid wore a cocktail dress by Maison de la Couture.

Sorry but Pippa Middleton's wedding dress looked much more beautiful to me. The only thing they have in common are the little cap sleeves.
DeleteAn incredibly beautiful wedding dress. I must admit I’m confused how the titles of royalty from a country which is now a republic live on. Apparently if Isabel lived in Austria she would not be allowed to use it … but living in London she can use Archduchess of Austria!

ReplyDeleteThe imperial Habsburg family ruled over Austria for 700! years. This rule ended with the end of WWI. The Austrian Empire collapsed. After WWI many terrible things happened, for instance the rise of Austrian Adolf Hitler, who was born in Austria and had lived in Vienna.
DeleteWhen you travel to Vienna today as a tourist you see references and advertisements everywhere concerning the Habsburg heritage.
In other words, the Austrian republic profits greatly of the former monarchy without treating its members well or correctly!! I don't like this attitude.
Apart from that the archduchess looks elegant in her beautiful wedding dress.

DeleteAs a tourist in Austria you are constantly remembered of Sisi and the "Kaiser". Kaiser's brötchen, Kaiser's Bier,... In Vienna when you visit all the castles, palaces and buildings open to the public it is all Sisi and Franz Joseph you see. I think there are a lot of Austrians who wish to keep their imperial heritage for the future. Among the new generations of Austrians there are probably the pro's and the contra's like everywhere.

Elisabeth looks good in the green dress. What strikes me though is the very strange styling of the dress on the model. What were they thinking to add horrible clunky pink Birkenstocks and a black cap?! Ugh.

DeleteThe bridal gown is beautiful. The lace top is very attractive. The satin skirt, gorgeous! The cut and design of the skirt is perfect. The skirt moved beautifully. Flows beautiful and moves well. Her hair up style, looks splendid, leaving us to see the beautiful of her veil, side and back. Her train is the right length imo. Her veil lace border looks lovely, not overdone, perfect. Her pearl drop earrings wonderful. Not a fan of her tiara, lollipop effect and sparse. Archduchess Marie Astrid looks lovely in this very flattering dress, the skirt particularly, just lovely nice swish and movement. Love the color of her shoes and bag. Her necklace appears pretty, not sure what her earrings are?
ReplyDeleteI don't mind the Queens ensemble, being Nathan, Its quite okay. Princess Elisabeth's dress is a glorious color. The Royal men, look impeccable, beautifully groomed and attired, I love what they are wearing handsome, both men.
Yes re the tiara, I think a floral crown would have been far more flattering. I guess the tiara was worn for tradition or for sparkles … to wear enormous diamonds … but wild flowers or flowers from the garden or even a crown of simple greenery would have flattered bride and gown beautifully.
DeleteThe Belgian royals and the royals of Luxembourg are related to the Archdukes of Austria. Among the noble families the titles continue. In the catholic church they continue too otherwise they would not be allowed to marry in a church in Vienna.
ReplyDeleteYes well said 6:29; it’s best understood as a tradition carried on by nobles within nobility - only. History has changed their role and dismantled their titles, but they hold on, past the allowances of the law in republics (see Greek Royal family for another example).
DeleteFor me looking in from the outside, I see some history, a loss of power, a clinging to hope of remaining important, but mostly: immense wealth and property portfolios. The Archduchess title surprised me, … but I love still to see the old fashioned - and timeless! - styling of the clothes. A dreamy bridal gown… and a lollipop-y tiara.

DeletePrincess Astrid of Belgium also has the title of Archduchess of Austria. She has this title by marriage to Archduke Lorenz of Habsburg-Este. She doesn't use it, she is always called Princess Astrid of Belgium. But she also has a beautiful tiara from the Habsburgers which she received after her marriage. On the day she married she wore flowers in her hair.
Princess Marie Astrid of Luxembourg also has the title of Archduchess of Austria through her marriage to Archduke Carl Christian of Austria (both present at the wedding).

DeleteBeautiful dressess all round, except, for me, the one worn by Archduchess Marie Astrid. Nice dress in itself, but akwardly accessorized - those chest pockets plus the hair flower plus a crossbody bag plus a very wide and sportish-looking belt do not work well together for the occasion., but that's just my taste. A clutch, slim belt in the color of the clutch or her shoes would be better, but I think it's the pockets which really give this dress a vibe for different ocasions.
