Lovely colour, but try as I might I am just not keen on the little girl puffy sleeves.

She gets points for riding a bicycle in heels. Not always the easiest thing to do.

oh, no, it's not a problem: I'm doing it almost every working day in spring-summer season ;-). Though her dress is rather long for biking, it could be more difficult than heels.

But zero points for not wearing a helmet!

Culturally speaking ladies, no helmet is normal for commuter bikes in the Netherlands.

I agree with anon 08:39: cycling in heels is not a problem but I've cycled with dresses that long and they tend to slip through the weel behind. You can fall and it can damage the dress. I always make a knot in the dress with a hairtie between my legs since, much safer although it wrinkles the dress a little.

I am anon 06:53 and now I've read on another blog that her dress doesn't get entangled in her wheels because of the bicycle bags on both sides. That might be true, I only have one so I'll have to buy another one out of safety I guess :-) things one can learn by reading royalty blogs!

Oh yes, hems with ruffles and puff sleeves with their own extra ruffles and then those little buttons - sweetness galore all over the place! So why look at where it comes from, it must be Zimmermann. Not even Máxima can make it work, it just looks ridiculously overdone. Why, oh why do women fall for this?

    Very pretty, summery dress!

The dress as worn by the model looks odd with its centre line of buttons stopping abruptly half-way down the skirt. But my main concern is the puffy sleeves, similar to the one worn by Zara the other day to Wimbledon. I dislike them for the same reasons; they narrow the shoulder-line, while creating too much bulk up top. Furthermore, the closed high neckline and the "paper bag tied with string" waistline is not contributing any shapeliness; so much loose fabric reminds me more of a nightgown. Maxima has an excellent figure, and in my opinion a fitted design, with well-constructed bodice and puffy sleeves like those on the white dress worn by her cycling companion, would suit her much better. The blue and white is crisp and perfect for a summer bike ride!!! The dress style/cut is anything but flattering due to the high closed neckline and exaggerated sleeves, but I’m looking right past it because I’m so charmed by the Queen on a bike. Love her!

  9. Heeled shoes and the Queen is on a bike, riding superbly, I love this! well done Ma'am!!
The Zimmerman dress is attractive, till I got to the near hemline, I don't like the frill base. The colors are pretty. Her earrings look interesting, not quite sure what they are.

I do not like this dress on Q. Maxima it is not her style. The sleeves are too wide and too big. The neck is too high closed. All the buttons from the neck until almost the hem are so unflattering. What I do like are her white sandals and shoulder bag.

Another pretty and summery Zimmermann dress.
Interestingly Maxima appears to have the problem with elastasized
sleeves that I experience in that one tends to ride up the arm.!

O dear, so definitely not her style, this Grandma Moses dress. The combination with the high heeled sandals make it even worse.

Dear Zimmerman, There is nothing wrong with puffed sleeves, long rows of buttons, frills, string waists, lace, florals, etc - but be judicious with their use - one at a time will serve you well!

Maxima has chosen her accessories well and it’s not a bad dress for cycling. The shoes on the model are sooo high that they deform her leg/foot shape and proportions in an eye-boggling manner; shame.

It is not the first time Q.Maxima is riding a bike to go from one place to another. I remember a couple of years ago, she took a bike to be in time on one of her visits in a canary yellow pantsuit.

In The Netherlands people are going to work in outfits like this. Did you think that they wear a cycling outfit ? These outfits are only worn by people who are cycling as a sport. Although in big cities like Amsterdam the bikers have priority on the rest of the traffic, she should have worn an helmet .
In Belgium I know women who are cycling every day to their office in an adapted outfit for bikers and an helmet. Once arrived at work they change clothes and wear a dress or skirt and blouse they usually wear to work. These people are wearing an helmet because the distance between their home and work is sometimes long. There are also special biking side ways in Belgium, but in the cities, bikers have usually no priority in traffic. A lot of bikers these days are using an electric bike, especially when they use it to go to school or to go to the office, or other working place.

      Hello everyone,
I didn't want to question all the baseless criticism over Queen Maxima's cycling ensemble but now I must concur.
Yes, people normally go to work in outfits like this in the Netherlands and elsewhere.
Unfortunately, not everyone know specific cultural contexts due to different reasons, one being that they are simply not used to travelling abroad.
They think that what they see in their own countries sutomatically applies to other contexts all across the world.
So sorry for them, they seem to miss the precious opportunity of learning about the way the world spins out there.

No helmet! Whilst it is not the law to wear one in the Netherlands one would have thought a person in her position could lead by example - head injuries can have life changing consequences. Of course we have the usual here of Maxima being fun etc.!
Another Zimmermann fail, too much material, sleeves too puffy, a tight high neckline and I would imagine too hot in this weather, tied at the waist like a sack, not a particularly nice print . A simple top and well tailored linen culottes would have looked so much better, imo.
