On July 9, 2026, Queen Máxima, together with the Dutch Minister of Social Affairs and Employment, Hans Vijlbrief, visited Amsterdam Zuidoost as part of the Debt-Free Neighbourhood (Schuldenvrije Buurt) initiative. The visit focused on promoting financially healthy neighbourhoods and socially responsible debt collection.
The purpose of the working visit was to share knowledge on place-based approaches, expand successful local initiatives, and strengthen cooperation between the Financially Healthy Netherlands Foundation (Stichting Financieel Gezond Nederland – SFGN) and the National Programme for Liveability and Safety (NPLV).
Queen Máxima, Minister Hans Vijlbrief, and Amsterdam Deputy Mayor Araya Sumter began their visit in G-Buurt Noord, where they met local residents and representatives of the municipality, Buurtteam Amsterdam, and the housing association Rochdale.
The visit continued in K-Buurt, where alderpersons responsible for social affairs from several municipalities discussed the role of financial well-being in achieving the objectives of the National Programme for Liveability and Safety, as well as cooperation with the Financially Healthy Netherlands Foundation.
Queen Máxima serves as Honorary Chair of both the Financially Healthy Netherlands Foundation and Wijzer in Geldzaken (Money Wise Platform).

Lovely colour, but try as I might I am just not keen on the little girl puffy sleeves.
ReplyDeleteShe gets points for riding a bicycle in heels. Not always the easiest thing to do.
ReplyDeleteoh, no, it's not a problem: I'm doing it almost every working day in spring-summer season ;-). Though her dress is rather long for biking, it could be more difficult than heels.
DeleteBut zero points for not wearing a helmet!
Delete"But zero points for not wearing a helmet!"
DeleteGood point.
Culturally speaking ladies, no helmet is normal for commuter bikes in the Netherlands.
DeleteI agree with anon 08:39: cycling in heels is not a problem but I've cycled with dresses that long and they tend to slip through the weel behind. You can fall and it can damage the dress. I always make a knot in the dress with a hairtie between my legs since, much safer although it wrinkles the dress a little.
DeleteI am anon 06:53 and now I've read on another blog that her dress doesn't get entangled in her wheels because of the bicycle bags on both sides. That might be true, I only have one so I'll have to buy another one out of safety I guess :-) things one can learn by reading royalty blogs!
DeleteOh yes, hems with ruffles and puff sleeves with their own extra ruffles and then those little buttons - sweetness galore all over the place! So why look at where it comes from, it must be Zimmermann. Not even Máxima can make it work, it just looks ridiculously overdone. Why, oh why do women fall for this?
ReplyDeleteVery pretty, summery dress!
ReplyDeleteThe dress as worn by the model looks odd with its centre line of buttons stopping abruptly half-way down the skirt. But my main concern is the puffy sleeves, similar to the one worn by Zara the other day to Wimbledon. I dislike them for the same reasons; they narrow the shoulder-line, while creating too much bulk up top. Furthermore, the closed high neckline and the "paper bag tied with string" waistline is not contributing any shapeliness; so much loose fabric reminds me more of a nightgown. Maxima has an excellent figure, and in my opinion a fitted design, with well-constructed bodice and puffy sleeves like those on the white dress worn by her cycling companion, would suit her much better. ReplyDeleteThe blue and white is crisp and perfect for a summer bike ride!!! The dress style/cut is anything but flattering due to the high closed neckline and exaggerated sleeves, but I’m looking right past it because I’m so charmed by the Queen on a bike. Love her!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful summer dress on QM! MR
ReplyDeleteI sure admire her riddling a bike in heels!
ReplyDeleteMit high heels Rad fahren ist durchaus gefährlich. flache Schuhe wären besser gewesen. Und es fehlt der Fahrradhelm!
DeleteNo no no, high heels on a bicicle is so dangereuse
DeleteNormal in Amsterdam. Look within the context of the culture before criticism.

DeletePerfect reply, well said👍
Heeled shoes and the Queen is on a bike, riding superbly, I love this! well done Ma'am!!
ReplyDeleteThe Zimmerman dress is attractive, till I got to the near hemline, I don't like the frill base. The colors are pretty. Her earrings look interesting, not quite sure what they are.
I do not like this dress on Q. Maxima it is not her style. The sleeves are too wide and too big. The neck is too high closed. All the buttons from the neck until almost the hem are so unflattering. What I do like are her white sandals and shoulder bag.
ReplyDeleteI agree pretty dress, fits well but the style is not the best formher
DeleteAnother pretty and summery Zimmermann dress.
ReplyDeleteInterestingly Maxima appears to have the problem with elastasized
sleeves that I experience in that one tends to ride up the arm.!
Cate.
O dear, so definitely not her style, this Grandma Moses dress. The combination with the high heeled sandals make it even worse.
ReplyDeleteRetour aux années 80...
ReplyDeleteThat’s what fashion does. Normal. Doesn’t mean it’s wrong or bad or not beautiful!
DeleteDear Zimmerman, There is nothing wrong with puffed sleeves, long rows of buttons, frills, string waists, lace, florals, etc - but be judicious with their use - one at a time will serve you well!
ReplyDeleteMaxima has chosen her accessories well and it’s not a bad dress for cycling. The shoes on the model are sooo high that they deform her leg/foot shape and proportions in an eye-boggling manner; shame.
Belachelijke outfit voor op de fiets.
ReplyDeleteJurk flatteert ook niet, maakt dik.
Wie is haar stylist?
Thankfully not you!
DeleteMerveilleuse robe d’été imprimée à volant qui -à mon avis- ne doit pas être pratique pour faire du vélo ainsi que les talons qui peuvent se casser ?
ReplyDeleteIt is not the first time Q.Maxima is riding a bike to go from one place to another. I remember a couple of years ago, she took a bike to be in time on one of her visits in a canary yellow pantsuit.
ReplyDeleteThank you for being so inspiratioal, Queen Maxima!.
ReplyDeleteI normally wear heels at work and in my spare time but I have never had a try at riding a bike like that!
Open toed sandals plus 9 cm high heels...uhm...that's so cool!!
Oh my… another crazy busy Zimmerman dress. Maybe they give them away to European royals. No reason otherwise… none that in can think of anyway.
ReplyDeleteShe wears it better than the model, and no helmet, like the rest of us...
ReplyDeleteNice summer dress and lovely color. Hope the bicycle ride was fun.
ReplyDeletecss
Big dress and heels, no helmet. Poor choices for a bike ride.
ReplyDeleteWhere are you writing from 20:26? No helmet is normal in Amsterdam.
DeleteIn The Netherlands people are going to work in outfits like this. Did you think that they wear a cycling outfit ? These outfits are only worn by people who are cycling as a sport. Although in big cities like Amsterdam the bikers have priority on the rest of the traffic, she should have worn an helmet .
DeleteIn Belgium I know women who are cycling every day to their office in an adapted outfit for bikers and an helmet. Once arrived at work they change clothes and wear a dress or skirt and blouse they usually wear to work. These people are wearing an helmet because the distance between their home and work is sometimes long. There are also special biking side ways in Belgium, but in the cities, bikers have usually no priority in traffic. A lot of bikers these days are using an electric bike, especially when they use it to go to school or to go to the office, or other working place.
Hello everyone,
DeleteI didn't want to question all the baseless criticism over Queen Maxima's cycling ensemble but now I must concur.
Yes, people normally go to work in outfits like this in the Netherlands and elsewhere.
Unfortunately, not everyone know specific cultural contexts due to different reasons, one being that they are simply not used to travelling abroad.
They think that what they see in their own countries sutomatically applies to other contexts all across the world.
So sorry for them, they seem to miss the precious opportunity of learning about the way the world spins out there.
Anon 5:28: Amsterdam is nót the Netherlands! I presumeyou are dutch, so you should know. It is an anarchistic city with its own culture and rules.
DeleteNo helmet! Whilst it is not the law to wear one in the Netherlands one would have thought a person in her position could lead by example - head injuries can have life changing consequences. Of course we have the usual here of Maxima being fun etc.!
ReplyDeleteAnother Zimmermann fail, too much material, sleeves too puffy, a tight high neckline and I would imagine too hot in this weather, tied at the waist like a sack, not a particularly nice print . A simple top and well tailored linen culottes would have looked so much better, imo.
