The Royal Palace in Brussels has reopened to the public for the first time since 2022. The Palace had been closed for the past three summers due to extensive renovation work on its facade and windows. It will be open to visitors from 3 July to 16 August. On the morning of Friday, 3 July 2026, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium visited the exhibitions at the Royal Palace in Brussels.

While the Palace traditionally opens to visitors only after Belgium's National Day, it is opening to the public earlier than usual this year because several state rooms must be prepared in time for the state visit of King Frederik and Queen Mary in early September.

Mathilde chooses very elegant clothes. This is very flattering for her. It’s a dress I would totally ignore on a manbequin but with her in it, very elegant.

The tailoring of the queen’s gown is very interesting and intricate. Perhaps it is my imagination, but Mathilde looks slimmer to me, her face has also changed, very positive.

    1. Yes also my conclusion, she looks slimmer. But that is the hair style I don't like for her.

This is a beautiful dress. In the first photo it look grey; in the second photo it looks blue-ish. I prefer the grey colour by far. I also like that the fabric looks thin and light on the capelet. The dress looks better from the front than from the side but that cannot be helped, nor is it of any consequence. Mathilde looks lovely.

I’m seeing grey, green, purple then blue. Fascinating fabric to change so much with the light. I guess it’s not actually grey as it would clash with the shoes.

I see that more photos have been added since I wrote my comment, when there were only 2 photos. But the dress still looks grey in some photos and blue in others.

I don’t care for the capelet style of Mathilde’s dress. I do like her shoes with the pretty details on the back that look like bows or bunny ears. I was hopeful for a while there she had changed her hairstyle to a softer, less structured look, which I think would look fantastic on her, but alas it appears not.

The blue greyish dress is a rewear from 2019. She wore it to visit 2 regions in Germany.
To me the dress has been renovated. It is less tight than in 2019. Or Queen Mathilde is thinner now. The shoes are the Bow tie pumps by Italian brand Aquazzura a brand that is worn often by royal ladies. The clutch by the Lebanese brand Sarah's bag is new. Her jewelry are the Diamonds with aquamarines earrings by Fabienne Lascar. Queen Mathilde looks great and her hair is lovely.
There are 4 exhibitions which can be visited this summer in the Royal Palace among 1 concerning the first Queen of the Belgians "Queen Louise".

This elegant dress with its capelet feature suits Queen Mathilde wonderfully; creates a very flattering silhouette and I love the periwinkle blue color, a hue we don’t often see. — Jane

  11. OMG Ladies, check out the Queen's shoes, tie bow effect! these are gorgeous, the back view, stylish and attractive. This capelet, is a wonderful characteristic, adding interest, a very elegant addition. I like this effect immensely. The blue periwinkle color is very appealing. The dress fits her well. Here is a dress that is imo the perfect length, smashing! Love the color of her gorgeous shoes and small clutch, I like the size and shape of this clutch. Most of the time I do love her bags/clutch's/evening bags. She has great bag game! The pale aqua and diamond earrings look splendid. Her makeup is on point. Love, love ! her hair this length. Its softer and style wise looks so natural. She looks quite beautiful. The King looks well groomed and attired. Love the color of his tie!
P.S Already excited and looking forward to the State royal tour in September. !!

      @ Ava Pittman,
Thx for your lovely message. However I wonder why you repeat everything what is already said by Anonymous 3/7/26 18:22 ?
Did you know that the shoes with the Bow tie effect by the brand Aquazurra were already worn in black by Meghan Markle when she and Prince Harry still lived in the U.K. ? The little clutch she is wearing here is in fact a "Minaudière" (Fr) and is usually made in metal or metal recovered by leather or another material and has usually a golden or silver fastener . A clutch is a bit bigger and flatter, in fact a little handbag made of leather with or without a strap. Queen Mathilde has a big collection of little and bigger handbags. That is why her daughters are always wearing lovely clutches. They just have to look in their mother's dressing room.

    2. Anon 14.29 Thank you so much for your I would describe, interesting comment. I quote you " why you repeat everything what is already said by Anon 3/7/26 18:22"
I graciously answer this question by asking you to please re read my comment. Nothing whatsoever is repeated. I have my own thoughts and feelings, I seriously don't need someone's else's ideas to influence or articulate my notions and feeling process. I am independent with conviction and concept of mind. As for the shoe description, may I enlighten you that this was also on Instagram. My apologies for not being able to address you by name, your not signed off as anything, just Anon as title. Regardless, thank you so much. Take good care.

      14:29 what a strange critique.

Never forget that comments here are not instantly available for others to read. Many may think and write similarly at the same moment but not see that until after the comments are published.

And yes I recognised that Mathilde’s shoes were similar to Meghan’s black ones. I thought they looked fragile and unsteady on Meghan and prefer them on Mathilde in this colour.

    5. Anon 18.11 Hi Luna, thank you for your comment. If you can access Instagram if possible, there are many different posts on shoes and dress description. "Palacefashionfiles", has a wonderful great close up of the intricacies of backs of the shoes. LOL! Yes agree, the shoes and clutch would be a lovely addition in our wardrobe!

Does everybody now Queen Mathilde's dress is by Natan ? Sorry I forgot to mention it.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Anonymous5/7/26 22:17

Because of the bad fit, wrinkles and cheap looking fabric, I guessed it was another Natan creation.

If I didn't mention it was by Natan you wouldn't know. But that's all right, the majority liked the dress and didn't complain about what you call bad fit, wrinkles and cheap looking fabric. Queen Mathilde's dress was a rewear from 2019, she and King Philippe had a private tour in the palace before it opened for the public. The people you are seeing on the photo's are the colleagues of the palace, photographers and the people responsable for the set up of the exhibitions. Of queen Mathilde one cannot say she doesn't rewear her old dresses.
