Thai Princess Bajrakitiyabha passed away at the age of 47 on 11 June 2026 at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, after spending more than three years in a coma. Born on 7 December 1978, Princess Bajrakitiyabha, widely known as Princess Bha, was the eldest child and first daughter of King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Princess Soamsawali.
Princess Bajrakitiyabha was hospitalized in December 2022 after falling unconscious while training dogs for an army exhibition. The palace said that she had developed a mycoplasma infection, a bacterial infection usually associated with pneumonia. The Princess was connected to medical equipment to maintain her lung and kidney functions.
Princess Bajrakitiyabha was born on 7 December 1978 at Dusit Palace in Bangkok. She attended the all-girls Rajini School during her elementary and junior high school years. She later earned an LL.B. degree from Thammasat University. On 12 May 2012, she was awarded an honorary LL.D. degree from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law.
Princess Bajrakitiyabha initiated the Kamlangjai, or Inspire, Project to improve the quality of life of women prisoners in Thailand, including pregnant inmates and mothers with young children, and to support their reintegration into society after release.
Princess Bajrakitiyabha also served as the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Regional Goodwill Ambassador on the Rule of Law for Southeast Asia and as Chairperson of the Special Advisory Board of the Thailand Institute of Justice.
Although the King has not officially named an heir, Princess Bajrakitiyabha was widely considered by observers of the Thai monarchy to be the most suitable candidate due to her family background and public standing.

i did not know her before this, but such a shame she seemed like a great heiress/ambassodor for Thailand.
ReplyDeleteThis is so very sad. I knew for a long time that she was in a coma, and had recently deteriorated. She was such a clever, beautiful, and accomplished woman. Now there is a question mark over who will succeed the king. A great loss.
ReplyDeleteA young woman losing her life is very sad.
ReplyDeleteI know this is a fashion blog and not a professional news site but, you kind of buried the lead. You say she was in a coma for more than three years. WHY?! You covered pretty much everything else about her life but that.
ReplyDeleteI know I'm old, and the school systems have changed over the years, but when I was in journalism classes in high school and college we were taught that you must cover "the five 'W's" for every story you write; Who, what, when, where, and WHY. Leave out any one of those and your report is incomplete. And if you don't know, or don’t have, the answer to any one of those 'W's you need to state that so that the reader will at least know you didn't overlook it due to incompetence.
AI to rescue of an incomplete story:
ReplyDelete"Princess Bajrakitiyabha of Thailand fell into a coma in December 2022 due to a severely irregular heartbeat, which doctors attributed to a mycoplasma bacterial infection in her heart. The medical emergency initially happened when she suddenly lost consciousness while training her dogs for an army exhibition. After remaining on life support for approximately three and a half years, her condition ultimately worsened in April 2026 due to an intra-abdominal infection, severe colitis, blood clotting disorders, and heart rhythm complications. She passed away in June 2026."
