As a result of her life-threatening chronic lung disease, and following extensive medical examinations, Crown Princess Mette-Marit has been placed on the waiting list for a lung transplant in Norway. To be closer to her family, Princess Ingrid Alexandra has returned to Norway and will spend the autumn semester of 2026 as an exchange student at the University of Oslo while continuing her studies at the University of Sydney.

Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit have postponed the celebration of their silver wedding anniversary, originally planned for August 2026, and the Crown Princess will not take part in the county visit scheduled for September. The Crown Prince will adjust his programme in the period ahead to spend more time with the Crown Princess.

    Am so sad Mette, its too much to take for one person!! And her son's sentencing is later this month, its all heart breaking!!

    Gosh, this is saddening news. But on a positive note, at least she has made it to be on the wait-list stage (for those who may not know, the tests that have to be completed for any kind of transplant, not just lungs, is very, very long and intensive, and can take 1 to 2 years to complete successfully before you can join the wait-list. I've supported 2 close friends through the process for heart and kidney respectively, so I know). I wish MM all the very best. She will be in my prayers.

      Thank you Anon 19:44 I just do what I can to help those who need help. It's a lot for them to manage (driving to and from hosp appointments, waiting during the tests, understanding the results, etc.) and often it affects their mental health and they need to talk /vent to know how to cope with the situation. I'm sure MM is going through the same and she has her family and friends around her to support her.

    The doctor says in the past year, much more scar tissue has developed in the Crown Princess's lungs and her lung function has declined dramatically in just the last three months.He say she has one year left to live if she doesn't get a lung transplant, but he also says that the last year the waiting time for new lungs has been short. No one has died waiting for new lungs the last year. So at least that's good news. We can only hope that she doesn't experience rejection, but that her body accepts the new lungs. Wish her good luck and a speady recovery.

    Wow, that’s a very scary place to be. I’m glad the family can respond to pull in closer. I hope she will have a quick and successful journey through the lung transplant. She looks very lovely in these photos.

    I read that she had been hospitalized last Thursday given that her health conditions had taken a turn for the worse.
    I sensed that a lung transpant was bound to be the next move.
    I am immensely sorry for her and wish her all the very best.

      Indeed it must be a very difficult time for her family. It is also tricky because a lung being available means another family has lost their loved one. Very sad situation all around.
